ADB, WB and IDB commit $3.738bn for flood victims Rehabilitation,

 

 For most important phase of national disaster, Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank (WB) and Islamic Development Bank (IDB) have collectively committed $3.738 billion of financial assistance for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood victims in Pakistan.

 Secretary Economic Affairs Division Subtain Fazal Haleem said "Disaster Need Assessment" would probably complete by October 15, while in the next week after approval of ministry of finance and foreign affairs ministry the government would be able to receive the commitment of $616 million through the channels of United Nation institutions.

He said that ADB is committed of $2 billion, WB with $1billion and Islamic Development Bank (IDB) with $738 million after a fresh appeal about the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the flood effectees.

Against the total commitment of $1.4 billion by International donor agencies the government of Pakistan has received $338 million for the rehabilitation of flood effectees across the country.

, Total commitments of financial assistance for flood effectees by WB, IDB, ADB, other international financial institutions as well as the international community is estimated $1.468 billion out of which $951 million would be disbursed through UN agencies as well as International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs), while $517 million would be spent for the reconstruction and rehabilitaion of flood effectees through the government of Pakistan (GoP).

Similarly the international community along with International Financial Institutions (IFIs) have pledged in-kind assistance including food items, cloths, medicines, clean water and other basic necessity products overall worth $709.09 million out of which the in-kind assistance worth $285.03 million has been disbursed till September 24.

Australia pledged in-kind financial assistance worth $67.50 million including three planes load of relief goods for flood effectees, whereas two planes have arrived Pakistan with urgent humanitarian needs in foods, health, drinking water and sanitation through World Food Programme (WFP), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), the aid is worth $15 million.

A further $25 million by Australia would help the flood effectees to rebuild their lives, of which $5 million would be delivered through Australian Non-Governmental Organisations.

According to Economic Affairs Division (EAD), Denmark has committed total assistance of $33 million, as such Canada has also committed for the assistance of worth $33 million as in-kind support in the form of relief goods and disbursement would be made through UN agencies as well as International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs).

The 26-country block of European Union has pledged the in-kind assistance of worth $87.50 million out of which the government has received relief goods for flood effectees of worth $20 million through UN agencies and INGOs, while Germany has separately pledged assistance of relief goods worth $31.25 million for initial phases including recovery as well as rescue and relief of flood effectees.

Islamic Development Bank (IDB) committed for the flood effectees an amount of $11.05 million – out of which IDB would disburse $1.02 million as grant free of interest, while $10 million as soft loan on terms & conditions with nominal service charges through the government of Pakistan (GoP).

Saudia Arabia has committed over $361.99 million including $105.29 million from Saudi government, $14.70 million from Saudi fund for development and $242 million from Saudi Public Fund Relief, However the government of Pakistan (GoP) only received from Saudi Arabia $5.29 million in the form of cash, while relief goods worth $40 million as a 'helping hand' for flood effectees.

US international Development Agency (USAID) overall committed $269.50 million – out of which USIAD would disburse $207.50 million in the form of interest free grant for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the flood effectees through UN agencies and INGOs, while the government has received only relief goods for effectees of worth $62 million.
