Yes We Can

"The reason that Republicans can't cut spending, cut it drastically, and cut it now is that philosophically there is no difference between the Left and Right, between Democrats and Republicans, and between liberals and conservatives. They may argue about the details of income redistribution, the level of income redistribution, the source of income redistribution, and the recipients of income redistribution, but they are all more than willing to continue to fund the welfare/warfare state by redistributing income from the productive in society to the nonproductive and to the state's privileged contractors."

Yes We Can
by Laurence M. Vance, August 9, 2011

Speaking from the Rose Garden last week after Senate approval of the bill to raise the debt ceiling, President Obama said about the federal deficit,
And since you can't close the deficit with just spending cuts, we'll need a balanced approach where everything is on the table. Yes, that means making some adjustments to protect health-care programs like Medicare so they're there for future generations. It also means reforming our tax code so that the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations pay their fair share. And it means getting rid of taxpayer subsidies to oil and gas companies, and tax loopholes that help billionaires pay a lower tax rate than teachers and nurses.

Taking these statements in reverse order. First, tax credits are not subsidies. Second, both corporations and the rich are paying their share of taxes. Third, Medicare is one of the causes of our current deficits and debt. And fourth, yes we can.

Yes we can, Mr. President, yes we can. We can close the deficit with just spending cuts. Congressman Ron Paul recently explained how in language so simple that even a politician who never worked in anything but a government job could understand:
Our revenues currently stand at approximately $2.2 trillion a year and are likely to remain stagnant as the recession continues. Our outlays are $3.7 trillion and projected to grow every year. Yet we only have to go back to 2004 for federal outlays of $2.2 trillion, and the government was far from small that year. If we simply returned to that year's spending levels, which would hardly be austere, we would have a balanced budget right now.

We are not even talking about paying down the national debt and eliminating unconstitutional entitlement programs just cutting spending to the point where outlays don't exceed revenues.

True, the spending of hundreds of billions of dollars by the government every year on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, unemployment benefits, and welfare (housing and energy assistance, food stamps, TANF, SSI, EITC) is illegitimate and should be cut completely. The case could be made that more than 90 percent of what the government spends money on is unconstitutional and illegitimate. But that is another topic for another article.

At issue is simply closing the deficit with just spending cuts. The deficit could be closed now, not in ten years, five years, or next year, but now, if Congress would just quit spending money instead of raising the limit on the government's credit card by $2.4 trillion.

The president is just plain wrong. The government certainly can close the deficit with just spending cuts.

NASA just launched a Juno spacecraft on a five-year trek to Jupiter. The cost? More than a billion dollars. The craft will make thirty-three orbits of Jupiter over its operational life of a year, then be deliberately crashed into the planet.

It costs about $1 million per soldier per year to keep a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan. There are about 100,000 troops in Afghanistan. Do the math.

The president's military adventure in Libya has already cost, according to the secretary of defense, more than $750 million.

Liberals should be outraged about this spending. Millions of Americans are unemployed, foreclosures of American homes are at an all-time high, record numbers of Americans are on food stamps, American infrastructure is crumbling and the government is spending money to explore Jupiter, fight a senseless war in one county, and unnecessarily intervene militarily in another.

Not enough savings to close the deficit? Then, from the Heritage Foundation's special report, "Federal Spending by the Numbers, 2010" I note the following:
  •  Washington spends $25 billion annually maintaining unused or vacant federal properties.
  •  The National Institutes of Health spends $1.3 million per month to rent a lab that it cannot use.
  •  The Conservation Reserve program pays farmers $2 billion annually not to farm their land.
Of course you can close the deficit with just spending cuts. You just have to want to do it. President Obama and the Democrats just don't want to do it.

But even worse than Obama and the Democrats are the Republicans. How can I make such a statement, you ask?

The socialist and statist policies of the Democratic Party are well-known. Democrats openly and consistently favor a larger and more-intrusive government, higher taxes and spending, collectivism, and more redistribution of wealth.

Republicans may claim to be for free trade, free markets, free enterprise, smaller and less-intrusive government, and fiscal responsibility, but they show by their actions that they are merely using libertarian rhetoric to get elected. The only limited government Republicans want is a government limited to one controlled by Republicans. As Lew Rockwell of the Ludwig von Mises Institute has well said about the Republicans,

Economic liberty is the utopia that they keep promising to bring us, pending the higher priority of blowing up foreign peoples, jailing political dissidents, crushing the left wing on campus, and routing the Democrats. Once all of this is done, they say, then they will get to the instituting of a free-market economic system. Of course, that day never arrives, and it is not supposed to. Capitalism serves the Republicans the way Communism served Stalin: a symbolic distraction to keep you hoping, voting, and coughing up money.

For years Republicans talked about abolishing the Department of Education and railed against socialized medicine. And what did they do once they gained control of the House, the Senate, and the White House under George W. Bush? They increased federal spending on and control over education and greatly expanded Medicare. They also turned a budget surplus into a trillion-dollar deficit and doubled the national debt.

After the Republicans regained control of the House in the 2010 midterm election, Wolf Blitzer of CNN asked House Minority Whip Eric Cantor to name one specific program that the Republicans in the House were going to cut, now that they would have a majority. Cantor couldn't name one. Blitzer then asked him the question a second time. Again, Cantor couldn't name one. Not one.

Paul Ryan's FY 2012 budget, H.Con.Res.34, which passed the House in April with only four Republicans voting against it, had a built-in trillion-dollar deficit. It was killed by the Senate. Total spending authorized in the bill wasn't that much less than that proposed by the president in his budget.

The Republican congressman Connie Mack IV has proposed a plan, H.R.1848, to balance the federal budget by 2019 by cutting spending by 1 percent a year for six years and then setting an overall spending cap of 18 percent of GDP. What a bold plan: cutting 1 percent out of an extremely bloated budget.

And then there is the House Republican "cut, cap, and balance" plan, H.R.2560, which passed the House in July with only nine Republicans voting against it. It was tabled in the Senate. This plan would have cut spending next year by the sum of $111 billion, capped future spending to some level of GDP, and required that a balanced-budget amendment be submitted to the states for ratification. The $111 billion spending cut for a year sounds good until you realize that the national debt increases by more than $4 billion a day. No wonder the bill included a debt ceiling increase of $2.4 trillion.

The reason that Republicans can't cut spending, cut it drastically, and cut it now is that philosophically there is no difference between the Left and Right, between Democrats and Republicans, and between liberals and conservatives. They may argue about the details of income redistribution, the level of income redistribution, the source of income redistribution, and the recipients of income redistribution, but they are all more than willing to continue to fund the welfare/warfare state by redistributing income from the productive in society to the nonproductive and to the state's privileged contractors.

The deficit can be closed with just spending cuts. Even that, of course, is not enough. A balanced $3 trillion budget is still an abomination to liberty and limited government.

Get ready for your BP to soar...

Get ready for your BP to soar...

It really makes me sick to my stomach to do this post.  But the "compassion" evil that flows from the liberals must be exposed.

Upon hearing the news Saturday of our SEALS, I told my lib mom.  She said, "Well that's to be expected."  Really mom, that's your FIRST thought? My first thought was how devastated the SEALS (and all branches) must be over this horrific news.  It saddened me to think of all the family members that were about to receive notifications of losing their loved ones.  I thought of my adopted soldiers in the Middle East and was wondering if they were ok.

Over at the Huffington Post, they were having much more vile reactions.  RightWingNews has compiled a partial list of them. Check out the "compassion" from these kooks:

  • marathon43: They got exactly what they deserved. They voluntarily traveled half-way around the world to kill people who had never done them any harm. They people they were trying to kill killed them first. That's exactly how things should be. Let's also remember that our troops have weapons far superior to anything possessed by the people they are trying to kill. Our troops are picking on someone who can't fight back. That's called bullying and cowardice. They got what bullies deserve.
  • FoxNewsCreationism: They got a myopic fast tracked American education while being transformed into brainwashed killing machines. I do not called that educated. Men who work in offices are definitely better than men who take up arms and who invade other countries illegally and then proceed to kill the native population. These men are specialized in killing. Nothing more. The are robots who kill for a greedy criminal empire. Also as for brains, I hold three degrees. Speak and write 4 languages. I highly doubt there is my equal in the US military. If there is, there are not many. 99.99 of military personal are just grunts. Even these guys. Anyone that takes up arms and invades another country illegally and then proceeds in killing the native population, is a zero in my book.
  • HUFFPOST SUPER USER mrfreeze: Go ahead and waive those chinese-made flags on your cars, wear your lapel pens and past "I support the troops" bumper stickers on your cars … it's your blind nationalism that has the blood of thousands on it.
  • ABACADABRA RABBIT: VOTE GREEN PARTY 2012 Do you know how many afghans were killed since 2001? Didn't think so. Do you know how many females were raped by US soldiers in Afghanistan since 2001? Didn't think so.
  • Clark Nova: The military is a waste of good men (and women), most of whom enlisted because they couldn't even get a job at Wal-Mart.
  • NWRICK: The best way to honor soldiers is to stop making more of them.
  • JonB2057: Is this some type of karma??? What goes around, comes around…

Last night at church Pastor Ryan spoke of Our Sacred Savior.  Once you find Jesus you find love. And you have an unlimited capacity to love.  I don't normally quote scripture (that's sage's speciality!), yet am sharing this one from last night.

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him."

1 John 4:7-9

These HuffPo commenters are in serious need of finding Jesus.

New Low: 17% Say U.S. Government Has Consent of the Governed

New Low: 17% Say U.S. Government Has Consent of the Governed
Rasmussen Reports

Fewer voters than ever feel the federal government has the consent of the governed.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 17% of Likely U.S. Voters think the federal government today has the consent of the governed. Sixty-nine percent (69%) believe the government does not have that consent. Fourteen percent (14%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The number of voters who feel the government has the consent of the governed – a foundational principle, contained in the Declaration of Independence – is down from 23% in early May and has fallen to its lowest level measured yet.

Perhaps it's no surprise voters feel this way since only eight percent (8%) believe the average member of Congress listens to his or her constituents more than to their party leaders. That, too, is the lowest level measured to date. Eighty-four percent (84%) think the average congressman listens to party leaders more than the voters they represent.

Voter approval of the job Congress is doing has fallen to a new low – for the second month in a row. Only six percent (6%) now rate Congress' performance as good or excellent.

(Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on August 1-2, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Democrats and voters not affiliated with either political party are more inclined to think the government does have the consent of the governed, but sizable majorities of all three groups don't believe that to be the case.

Fifty-five percent (55%) of the Political Class, on the other hand, feel the government does have the consent of the governed. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Mainstream voters disagree.

Most voters across the demographic board believe the average congressman listens to their party leaders more than the people they represent.

Voters also are more convinced than ever that most congressmen are crooks.

Most voters still lack confidence even in their own local Congress member. Given a choice between keeping the entire Congress or picking a new one and starting over, most voters want to dump all the incumbents.

An overwhelming majority of voters nationwide want members of Congress to take a pay cut until the federal budget is balanced. A plurality (48%) want President Obama to take a pay cut, too, until that day comes.

As for the debt ceiling agreement reached in Congress, just 22% of voters nationwide approve of the new law, while 53% disapprove. The majority of voters also disapproved of how both sides handled the debt debate.

The president and Congress agreed to cut a trillion dollars in federal spending over the next decade as part of the debt ceiling deal, but most voters doubt that will actually happen.

Most voters continue to favor repeal of the national health care law as they have every week but one since Congress passed it in March 2010.

**JP** Daily Quran & Hadith

IN THE NAME OF "ALLAH"
Assalamu'alaikum Wa Rahmatullah e Wa Barakatuhu,

English Translation of HADITH

Reported Ishaq Bin Nasar, from Abdur Razzaq, from Ibn Juraij, narrated Yahya Bin Saeed and Sohail Ibn Abu Saleh and they reported from An-No'man Ibn Abu Ayyash reported from Abu Sa'id Al Khudri (Radi Allahu Taala Anhum Ajmaeen), reported Allah's Messenger (PBUH) as saying: "When any servant of Allah who observes fast for a day in the way of Allah, Allah would remove, because of this day, his face farther from the Fire (of Hell) to the extent of seventy years' distance."

[Sahih Al-Bukhari & Sahih Al-Muslim]

Commentary:

We can understand from the above Hadith, which highlights that for the person who is fasting sincerely in the way of Allah SWT, there are two moments of  happiness and rejoicing for him i.e. "When he breaks his fast he is happy with his breakfast [i.e., that Allah has blessed him with the grace of having completed such an act of worship, as well as the freedom to enjoy what he has been abstaining from]", and "when he meets his Lord, he is happy with his fast". Because, fasting becomes an intercessor for the worshipper on the day of  Judgment. He (The FAST) says: "Oh Lord I restrained him from food and from his desires during the day so allow me to intercede on his behalf." Moreover, his FAST will also become a shield and a fortified fortress (That protects) him from the Hell-Fire. Thus, [As a reward for] he who fasts one day for the sake of Allah SWT, Allah SWT distances that person's face from the Hell-Fire=70 autumns, i.e. a distance which would take 70 years to traverse. In another authentic narrations The Prophet (PBUH) said: "He who fasts a day with complete sincerity, solely seeking Allaah's pleasure and gratification, and dies with this deed as his last action, goes to Heaven". (Musnad Ahmad 5/391, and in Sahih Al-Targheeb 1/412.)

The Refusal to Think

"The other reason why Congress has been so sanguine about their headlong rush towards bankruptcy is that they know that their willful ignorance is shared by many if not most of their constituents. This is certainly not a modern phenomenon -- as the following quote shows clearly:
"The greater part of men are much too exhausted and enervated by their struggle with want to be able to engage in a new and severe contest with error. Satisfied if they themselves can escape from the hard labor of thought, they willingly abandon to others the guardianship of their thoughts." (Friedrich Schiller: 1759–1805)"

The Refusal to Think
by William (Bill) Buckler

Early this year, Cornell University in the US did a "study" which was designed to see if Americans equate the money they receive from the US government with government "programs". They asked a large number of "ordinary" Americans if they had ever used a government program. The findings -- as reported by the New York Times in February this year -- were astonishing. Forty-three percent of Medicare recipients said NO. Forty-four percent of those on Social Security said NO. Forty-three percent of people on unemployment "benefits" said NO. And to crown the whole study -- FIFTY-THREE percent of those getting student loans -- likely including Cornell students -- said NO.

The Internet postings of participants at "Tea Party" rallies holding signs up saying "Hands Off My Medicare!" have been proliferating for months, to the great glee of the Democrats. In late July as the debt limit circus was ratcheting up by the hour, President Obama mentioned a letter he had recently received from a Medicare recipient. He quoted the letter as follows: "I don't want government-run health care. I don't want socialized medicine. And don't touch my Medicare!"

Surveys taken in the last days of the debt limit "debate" showed that an overwhelming majority (70-80 percent) of those Americans polled were fully in favor of a constitutional amendment to force the federal government to balance its budget. But as Ron Paul (quite rightly) never gets tired of pointing out, without MAJOR cuts to so-called "entitlement" programs, a balanced budget is IMPOSSIBLE.

In "normal" times, this evidence of a massive delusional streak running through the American electorate would be welcomed by (most) politicians. It is what lets them get away with such amazing idiocies as claiming that debt limit increases are being matched by budget "cuts" -- while blanking out the fact that the debt limit goes up NOW while the budget cuts take place over the next ten years. The problem is that to people who actually think -- or claim to think -- that their "entitlement" checks don't come from government, the sky is the limit as far as manipulation of the "truth" is concerned.

Willful Ignorance

In his book -- End The Fed -- Ron Paul maintains that there is an almost total disinterest in monetary policy amongst members of Congress. He is undoubtedly right. Dr Paul relates one private conversation with a Congressman when he was asked if the US Dollar was "backed" by Gold. The Congressman came away amazed, having blithely assumed up to that time that it was. Dr Paul goes on to say that because of this disinterest and ignorance, members of Congress are "convinced" that there is no limit to what they can legislate because there is no limit on what they can spend. What he describes is a fools' paradise. Like any fools' paradise, the only thing which rouses the inhabitants to fury is a suggestion that they might be mistaken. The just completed debt limit "debate" is proof positive of that.

Members of Congress have been able to get away with this willful ignorance because all they have had to do in the past to go on borrowing and spending is to give themselves permission to do so by raising the Treasury's debt "limit". Thirty years ago, the majority of them were sure they would be able to go on doing this in perpetuity. Ten years ago, the majority of them were sure they would be able to go on doing this for the rest of their lives. Today, this "certainty" has hit the wall.

The other reason why Congress has been so sanguine about their headlong rush towards bankruptcy is that they know that their willful ignorance is shared by many if not most of their constituents. This is certainly not a modern phenomenon -- as the following quote shows clearly:

"The greater part of men are much too exhausted and enervated by their struggle with want to be able to engage in a new and severe contest with error. Satisfied if they themselves can escape from the hard labor of thought, they willingly abandon to others the guardianship of their thoughts." (Friedrich Schiller: 1759–1805)

The Struggle With "I Want"

Throughout this debt debate, the Democrats were defending the message that government "services" are "free" while the Republicans were countering with the argument that they are actually not "free" but that doesn't mean that it is necessary to tax to pay for them. Both sides were wrestling with an insoluble problem. Almost half (47 percent) of all Americans either don't pay any income tax or get more money back from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) than they pay in income tax.

There are three major reasons for this. First, the income of MANY American families falls below the tax "threshold" once deductions and exemptions are factored in. Then there are the MANY "senior citizens" whose income is partly or wholly derived from Social Security. Social Security payments are tax-exempt. Finally, there are those Americans whose "benefits" exceed the income taxes they pay. Add it all up and you arrive at a situation where HALF of the American people are paying ALL the income taxes.

Income taxes are not the only source of revenue for the US government. There are many other taxes and government charges built into almost every transaction. But income taxes are the major proportion of what the IRS collects for the US Treasury to spend every year. And, of course, federal government employees don't "pay" income taxes because their income IS taxes.

The situation is similar everywhere in the world. It differs only in degree. When looking at their budgets, most governments divide them into some equivalent of what is known as "discretionary" spending and "mandatory" spending. "Discretionary" spending includes everything except entitlement programs and the servicing costs of government debt. Fiscal 2011, which ends on September 30 this year, will be the fourth year in a row in which the US government would have been left with a deficit even if they had wiped out ALL "discretionary" spending -- which includes "defense" spending.

In the US (as in most if not all other "developed" countries), most of the people simply refuse to see these facts. Having refused to acknowledge their existence, these people are in no position to consider their implications. This makes a rational debate on the unsustainability of government debt -- the vital need to cut it and the certain results of failing to cut it in REAL terms -- extremely difficult. The circus in Congress leading up to the August 2 "compromise" illustrates just how difficult it is.

The "liberals" say don't cut spending but raise taxes on the "rich" (anyone who has more than me) and don't touch my entitlements. The "conservatives" say don't raise taxes and cut spending -- but don't touch my entitlements. When either side is asked how -- both sides answer -- SOMEHOW!

**JP** Sayings of 4th Caliph ~ 209 to 250

**JP** {Tibb-e-Nabawi} Hijamah in Ramadan

Hasnain Sahib, Assalam O Alaikum,

In Ramadan, we only do Hijamah after Taraweeh, it is not advisable to perform Hijamah while a person is fasting (can cause weakness).

During Hijamah, some people with greasy skin will develop skin boils / pustules (Chala as you said) when suction is applied, such patients may have constipation, a very bad ~ acidic odor of sweat, bad breath, etc. A disturbed diet high in damaged fats & dairy products can also make the skin OILY. For such patients, try to reduce the suction.

Rick Santelli Fired Up: ‘If It Wasn’t for the Tea Party We’d Be Rated Triple-B’

Rick Santelli Fired Up: 'If It Wasn't for the Tea Party We'd Be Rated Triple-B'
  • Posted on August 8, 2011 at 6:40pm

Rick Santelli — the man whose speech on stimulus and bailouts in February 2009 is credited with helping launch the Tea Party — was fired up in this morning about the lack of leadership in the White House and all the political wrangling around what is really a simple problem- the government spends too much money.

During the CNBC segment, Santelli ripped into the "blame Bush, blame the sun" culture currently on display in the White House. He said it's clear "we all know deep inside no country is the same it was five years ago," and as for stocks going down, "we're already Ralph Cramden on thin ice, now an infant's jumped onto our shoulders."

More than anything else, Santelli was livid about the political accusations that the Tea Party is to blame for the U.S. credit downgrade. Quite to the Contrary, Santelli said, "If it wasn't for the Tea Party, we'd have been rated triple B."

The Santelli portion starts around 3:10 into the clip below, courtesy of CNBC:

**JP** as markets reel.....

With markets reeling on the fears of global economic crises started by the beginning of the downfall of the dollar, the gold has shot highest and crossed all world records to date and stand at $1753/oz, the stocks are drastically loosing value (if anyone has a chance, he should get out from stocks and remove all his money immediately and convert it into silver/gold or food stocks), here is an interesting debate going on, on the international wars being waged!

Advise: Read Surah-e-Khaf each week (first ten verses, to protect from the fitna-e-dajjal) and get rid of all paper money (the biggest fraud in human history) and follow the teachings of the prophet pbuh to protect yourself and your family and friends....
