From Jim Miller on Politics - does Obama even believe himself on Libya

Pseudo-Random Thoughts

*Obama's Argument On Libya Contains A Contradiction: *As you read
through the document
<http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/documents/united-states-activities-libya.html> he
sent to Congress, you learn that we are engaged in hostilities, directly
and indirectly.

The United States has "specific military objectives". (p. 3.) We used
"our unique assets to destroy key regime military targets and air
defense capabilities". (p. 5) We are now supporting our allies in their
attacks on the regime. (p.5) We are demanding a change in the regime.
(p. 7) We are supplying most of the intelligence and refueling. (p. 9)
Without our support, the coalition would find it difficult to "execute
and sustain its operation". (p. 13) We have expended almost $400
million worth of munitions. (p. 14)

Nonetheless, according to President Obama, we are not engaged in
"hostitlities".

Given the important U. S. interests served by U. S. served by U. S.
military operations in Libya and the limited nature, scope and
duration of the anticipated actions, the President has
constitutional authority, as Commander in Chief and Chief Executive
and pursuant to his foreign affairs powers, to direct such limited
military operations abroad. The President is of the view that the
current U. S. military operations in Libya are consistent with the
War Powers Resolution and do not under that law require further
congressional authorization, because the U. S. military operations
are distinct from the kind of "hostilities" contemplated by the
resolution's 60 day termination provision. (p. 25)

Mind boggling. Professor Althouse thinks that Obama doesn't believe
his own argument
<http://althouse.blogspot.com/2011/06/according-to-liberal-apparatchiks-in.html>.
I hope that he doesn't, but am less certain than she is.

Obama believes so many other strange things that he may believe his own
argument; he may believe that hostilities are not hostitlities.

The racist origins of government marriage in America

The racist origins of government marriage in America
Posted by Ryan W. McMaken on June 18, 2011 09:48 PM

A reader sends along this link, and notes:

Marriage licenses came about in the late 19th century to prevent mixed-race marriages. That should be appalling to anyone, and is in my opinion the strongest argument to privatize marriage.

The linked article makes many points similar to those I made in my article from Friday. And it notes that:

The American colonies officially required marriages to be registered, but until the mid-19th century, state supreme courts routinely ruled that public cohabitation was sufficient evidence of a valid marriage. By the later part of that century, however, the United States began to nullify common-law marriages and exert more control over who was allowed to marry.
By the 1920s, 38 states prohibited whites from marrying blacks, "mulattos," Japanese, Chinese, Indians, "Mongolians," "Malays" or Filipinos.

At the heart of it all, predictably is the urge to control the lives of others. White people might marry black people! Horror of horrors. Therefore, the state must get involved. No doubt these arguments in favor of more government meddling were made with an overlying patina of "freedom." Just as the modern anti-immigration crowd today argues that we must destroy freedom in order to save it, the old racist proponents of government marriage likely argued that we must abolish freedom in marriage or the "Negro agitatuhs" and their dusky-skinned allies will destroy freedom. Conservative "logic" at its best.

Good one - The One's List of Historic Firsts - we definitely need to get rid of him and soon!!

Re: 11 Latin nations seek to block Ga. immigration law

What business is it of any other nation what Georgia has as an
immigration law. Let them take care of their own business. If they had
more stable governments that paid more attention to the problems their
own citizens faced then there would not be so many people trying to get
away from there to come to Georgia or the other states in the USA.

11 Latin nations seek to block Ga. immigration law

11 Latin nations seek to block Ga. immigration law

Mexicoand 10 other countries have joined the legal fight against Georgia's tough new immigration law, warning that the strict crackdown could jeopardize close ties between the U.S. and its Latin American neighbors.

The nations filed briefs late Wednesday in support of liberal groups who asked a federal judge to declare Georgia's new law unconstitutional and block it from taking effect.

The filing marks a new phase in the legal showdown that has pitted Georgia's attorneys against groups who had threatened to challenge the law even before it was adopted by lawmakers. Mexico's move also echoes the legal strategy it pursued to challenge tough new immigration rules enacted by other states. Attorneys representing Mexico filed briefs challenging similar legislation adopted in Arizona and Utah.

Georgia's law, known as HB 87, would allow law enforcement to check the immigration status of a suspect who cannot provide identification and empowers them to turn over anyone found to be in the country illegally to federal authorities. It also adds new penalties for those convicted of harboring illegal immigrants and presenting false documents when applying for a job.

Let's Get Those Obama Billboards Up!

Let's Get Those Obama Billboards Up!

Are you frustrated about Obama's (in)eligibility?

Have you had enough of Obama thumbing his nose at us with his fraudulent birth documents?

Are you sick and tired of The Establishment (media, Democrat and Republican parties, Congress, courts, the military) looking the other way?

Well, let's do something about it other than moan and groan and getting our blood pressure up!

Michael Volin is a small business owner who runs Derry Beverage  on Route 54 at the intersection of Route 254 in Washingtonville, PA. (Click HERE for his website.)

Volin is making available the space and installation for two billboards about Obama's ineligibility which are making quite an impact in the community.

The billboards were paid for by the owner of the website, ObamaReleaseYourRecords (ORYR), and one of ORYR's loyal readers who wishes to remain anonymous. That website has been tireless in the battle on Obama's birth eligibility.

Here are the two billboards. Artwork on the billboards was produced by Pixel Patriot and TerryLakinActionFund.com.

The goal is to have more billboards erected in other states. But the only way this will be possible is if we help contribute funds. Leased billboard space is not cheap but there are ways to bypass the high costs of leasing space. If business owners or private property owners would be willing to donate space for a billboard that would cut the costs extensively.

Wouldn't it be great to have a billboard plastered outside CNN's headquarters in Atlanta? Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome: BirtherReport@yahoo.com.

Please contribute whatever you can: $1, $5, $10, $25, $50. I just contributed $25. To donate, go HERE.

H/t beloved fellow Tina.

June 20: Islamists & ACLU to pimp sharia law on Capitol Hill

The Muslim Public Affairs Council today announced it will host a Capitol Hill forum on "A Solution in Search of a Problem: The Impact of Anti-Sharia Bills in America" on Monday, June 20, to discuss the impact of state-level bills on various faith communities and the Constitutional guarantee to freedom of religion.
