Re: Unthinkable

What happened ten years ago today was unthinkable. Literally.

for some people ... but not all

An interventionist policy is not in the best interest of the USA.
Those who promote it are not concerned about the best interests of the
USA.

The devastation and death, the pain and suffering, were too much of a shock for most people to even mentally process. Thousands of people murdered, out of the blue; images of mayhem and tales of suffering thrown at people over and over again. Overwhelming emotions--sadness, anger, frustration, helplessness--seared into people's minds forever.
> That's what propagandists love. The best way to bypass rational thought is through extreme emotion. Politicians know it. Used car salesmen know it. Moviemakers know it. Dragging people around by their emotions is relatively easy, compared to dragging them around by their intellects. If you want to manipulate and control someone, using emotion is your best bet. Showing people heart-breaking images of starving children, and then asking for donations. Scaring people with some horrible threat, and then asking them to support your method of prevention. Showing people a grave injustice, and then asking them to lash out at the perpetrators. If you want to influence someone's thoughts and actions, appealing to their feelings will work a lot more often than appealing to their ability to think. Likewise, if someone wants to deceive and manipulate you, you can bet it will be through emotion.
> This is not to say that emotions shouldn't exist, and that we should all be unflinching Vulcans. But our rational minds are what distinguish us from other animals. Anyone who owns a dog knows that dogs can get sad, or angry, or scared. And trying to reason with a dog, to get it to disregard an unnecessary and unhelpful emotion--such as being terrified by thunder--does not work. The question is, are we humans any different? How often do our emotions get the better of us, and how often do our feelings override or even disable our ability to think rationally?
> Ten years ago today, some truly horrible things happened, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Americans. That much, no one doubts. But what exactly happened, and who was responsible, has been debated ever since. Well, perhaps "debate" is not the right word, because the discussion has been more often emotional than rational. Understandably, even years after it happened, many people are still unable to think about the events of 9/11/01 in any sort of detached, neutral, objective way.
> My goal here is not to provide piles of evidence about the events of 9/11, or to give any sort of comprehensive theory about what all really happened. Instead, my goal here is to address what has to come first: open-minded, rational thought--something most Americans are unable or unwilling to engage in. Before evidence matters, people have to dare to look at evidence. Before a hypothesis can be worth anything, people must be willing to consider different possibilities. And most Americans are not.
> To wit, most Americans self-righteously scoff at so-called "conspiracy theories" concerning 9/11. However, only an absolute moron would think the events of 9/11 werenotthe result of a conspiracy. It wasn't a spur-of-the-moment idea. Some number of people obviously spent a lot of time and effort conspiring to commit mass murder. Ergo, it obviouslywasa conspiracy. That is indisputable. The question is, who were the conspirators? Were they Middle Eastern terrorists? Were they agents of the U.S. government? Trouble is, the latter possibility is unthinkable--most people literally are unwilling or unable to think about it. "That's ridiculous," is the most common response. What those people really mean is, "I don't want to consider that possibility."
> Any good homicide investigator looking into a murder would begin with some basic questions: Who could have been motivated to do this? Who had the means to pull it off? Who had something to gain? Who could have pulled it off? Considering such questions objectively, foreign terrorists come in a distant second behind agents of the United States "government." Who would be in a better position to have pulled off such an attack, an official inside the U.S. national security system, or an Arab in a cave in Afghanistan? And which of those would expect to be killed, and which would expect to gain power, as a result of such an event? Which of those did gain power, and which of those did get killed? (As an aside, if you were a homicide investigator, and of your two leading suspects, one insisted that the other had done it, would you take his word for it?)
> To most Americans these questions are "unthinkable." A moment of rational consideration says that people inside the U.S. "government" would have the means to do it, and something to gain from it, far more so than a ragtag band of terrorists somewhere in the Middle East. But most Americans are simply unable to consider the possibility thatAmericanscould have done such a thing. Because of the pack-mentality and nationalism they were trained to feel, theywantthe perpetrators to be from another country, another religion--they want them to be the "other guys," so they can be despised, hated, and then destroyed. To even consider the possibility that it was a "false flag" operation, such as people in power have been committing throughout all of history, would leave most Americans feeling scared and confused.
> Consider an analogy. More often than you may realize, firefighters get caught starting fires, in order to get more work (and more money), and so they can look like heroes. When that happens, people feel a deep betrayal, bewilderment, confusion and anger. We want protectors and good guys to be ... well ... protectors and good guys. How about cops getting caught running extortion rackets? How about the CIA getting caught running drugs? How about the ATF getting caught recently,supplying guns to Mexican drug cartels? What part of this hints that we shouldn't even consider the possibility that Americans could ever commit evil to serve their own wealth and power?
> Most Americans imagine that people in "our" "government" could never have done anything as heinous as what happened on 9/11. Yes, everyone knows that politicians are liars and crooks, but they want to imagine that "our" politicians aren't monsters. They wouldn't commit mass murder for political ends!  Except that we all know they have. The two worst individual acts of terrorism--mass murdering of civilians used to coerce those in power to change their ways--were thenuclear bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, with combined death tolls nearly ahundred timesthose of 9/11. Everyone knows it was top U.S. officials who made that happen. Maybe that doesn't count, because those were foreign civilians being murdered. The American politicians would never kill Americans in order to serve their own power and political ends! Except that thePentagon Papersshow exactly that: U.S. politicians sending thousands of American soldiers off to suffer and die, based on lies and a political agenda.
> Okay, but those were soldiers. The U.S. politicians would never kill American civilians! Except in Waco, where almost a hundred men, women and children were systematically tortured, mentally and physically, and then murdered. (If you haven't seen theFLIR tapesfrom that event, don't claim to know that it was mass suicide.) Ruby Ridge? Kent State? Okay, sometimes agents of "government" go too far, but those in power would never intentionally plan to fake terrorist attacks, and then blame it on someone else, in order to justify their military agenda! Really? Go read the declassified documents relating to "Operation Northwoods" if you think U.S. officials would never do such a thing.(Notice that I'm using links to mainstrean, statist sites admitting these things, rather than sources anyone could pretend are run by "anti-government conspiracy kooks.")It is quite understandable that after all the pain and suffering that has happened because of the events of 9/11, people want some sort of resolution and closure. They want everything to be okay again. They don't want uncertainty about what happened. They want to know the enemy, and feel like he is being dealt with. They want to feel secure again. These are understandable emotions, but they all get in the way of knowing the truth. Some people even have emotional tantrums whenever others question the official story, as if that somehow desecrates the memory of those who died on that day. But if we truly want to "honor the dead," we should make sure we actually know what happened, and who did it. And right now, the most ridiculous, impossibly implausible conspiracy theory out there, is the one most Americans have accepted on faith. It is a lie they are comfortable with, a lie they can cheer for, a lie they can live with. The truth, well, that may prove to be a lot more difficult to stomach.
> After all, if some people inside your own government were responsible for intentionally killing thousands of innocents ... would you even want to know? (See "V for Vendetta.") If you are unwilling to even think about such a scenario, then you are exactly the type of person a false flag operation would work well on, and therefore the type of person a false flag operation is likely to be used against.
>
> "The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a  conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists." [J. Edgar Hoover]
>
> The more the American people remain blindly loyal to those who claim to be "authority," the more those in power have to gain by exploiting that blind loyalty. That is how people in power have always operated. If, by committing evil, they can persuade you to give them more power, they will do it.
> Yes, there are evil people in the world, and they tend to gravitate toward positions of power. Yes, they are evil enough to commit fraud, theft, assault, even murder, to serve their own ends. And very few of them are stupid enough to be honest and open about who they are and what they want. Instead, they cloak their malice under a veil of good will; they cloak their hatred for humanity under a guise of compassion. And yes, they connive and conspire to use your virtue against you, to use your compassion and goodness to enslave and destroy you. They will do the unthinkable, simply because they know that you won't think of it, and you won't believe it when it happens. Then they will wring their hands, shed a fake tear, and offer their phony heart-felt condolences. After that, what you may mistake for a caring embrace will be them tightening their grip around your throat.

Fwd: Fw: GOOD STUFF HAPPENING IN WISCONSIN!

YES---GOOD STUFF is HAPPENING IN WISCONSIN!!

EXAMPLES:

Ashland School District - saved $378,000 on health insurance;
Kimberly School District - saved $821,000 by dropping WEA Trust Insurance;
Edgerton School District - dropping WEA Trust, expecting to save at least $500,000;
Baraboo School District - dropping WEA Trust, expecting to save at least $660,000;
Dodgeland School District - dropping WEA Trust, expecting to save $260,000

Elmbrook School District - changing health care provider, savings estimated at $878,000;
Mequon-Thiensville School District - saving $49,000 on dental insurance coverage;
Marshfield School District - saving $850,00 by dropping WEA Trust;
City of Sheboygan - Mayor Bob Ryan says collective bargaining reforms will provide  enough savings to make up for the reduction in state aid;
Wauwatosa School District - tax levy decreasing, no programs will be cut, class sizes won't increase, thanks to the reforms in collective bargaining;
Manitowoc - Laid-off city workers may get their jobs back due to the wage/benefit reforms contained in Walker's budget. Changes to overtime rules saving the county $100,000;
Pittsville - will see a 9% decrease in the school portion of their property tax levy. "This is the first year we have not needed to short-term borrow," stated Board President Strenn;
Appleton School District - will save $3.1 million just in health insurance costs due to being able to bid out the coverage and being able to drop WEA Trust;
Racine County - inmates can now be used to perform tasks such as landscaping, painting and shoveling sidewalks. Executive Ladwig states this is a win/win for the inmates and the county. It frees up county employees for other tasks, gives the inmates a sense of value, and helps the county maintain property that has been neglected."
Kaukauna School District - hiring additional teachers, reducing class sizes, enacting a merit pay system, and due to Walker's Budget Bill, Kaukauna's operating budget has moved from a negative $400,000 to a positive $1,500,000 Much of this savings was due to being able to drop WEA Trust.
Hartland School District - switched from WEA Trust and saved $690,000;

Hudson School District
- saved $832,000 on health insurance due to ability to bid the insurance.

KSTP did a study of the savings in Sheila Harsdorf's 10th Senate District. They found that Ellsworth, Prescott, Menomonie, Somerset and Hudson school districts are all reporting large savings due to the changes signed into law by Walker.

Keep in mind, WEA TRUST is Shelly Moore's union insurance company, a company that has obviously been ripping off the school districts for years, thanks to collective bargaining that prohibited school districts from seeking insurance coverage from any company other than WEA Trust. How much tax money would we have saved if school districts had been "allowed by the unions" to bid out their insurance over the years? I'd say probably many, many, many millions statewide. It's the union money train running off the tracks, finally, and Shelly and her union don't like it.

WANT MORE GOOD NEWS??

Walker just signed an Unemployment Insurance extension adding 13 weeks of UC benefits.

Passed a state budget on time, without tax increases, that leaves WI in the black for the first time in over 10 years.

Turned a $3 billion deficit into a $300 million surplus
.

Cut bonding by nearly 20%.

Cut more than 1,000 government jobs, including 735 long-term vacancies.

In the first 6 months of 2011 WI showed job growth more than twice the national rate.

Protected our votes by requiring a picture I.W. at the polls.

Became the 49th state to recognize our 2nd Amendment right to carry concealed weapons.

Paid off WI's $60 million debt to MN under the former tax reciprocity agreement.

Paid back over $200 million to the Injured Patients and Families Fund. This is money that ex Gov. Doyle unconstitutionally raided from the Patients' Compensation Fund.

Walker expanded the prohibition against tax money being used to subsidize abortion.

Who Is Winning the War on Terrorism?

Who Is Winning the War on Terrorism?
Not us
by Justin Raimondo, September 12, 2011

New York is a city under siege. As I write on the morning of the tenth anniversary of 9/11, thousands of police, federal agents, and the National Guard are swarming over the panicked metropolis, as reports proliferate that three suspected terrorists who entered the country recently are planning a car-bomb attack. Bomb-sniffing dogs patrol Grand Central Station, while police checkpoints delay traffic for hours – and threats appear on the White House Facebook page.

Amid the hundreds of editorials, reminiscences, and opinion pieces directed our way this somber day, all of which seek to extract some larger meaning from the worst terrorist attack in American history, the real meaning of that signal event is plain as day: we are losing the "war on terrorism" – big time.

Look at what happened in New York City: how many resources, how many tax dollars, have been expended in the search for three terrorists who may or may not be planning an attack? One of the major pieces of evidence for the 9/11/11 plot is the uptick in " chatter" supposedly filling the terrorist communications network. But what if this "chatter" is a calculated tactic? Simply by feinting – "leaking" false information – the Bad Guys can provoke a major and exhausting response, draining us until we're eventually so worn down – or so bankrupt – that they accomplish their goal without even launching another strike on the scale of 9/11.

As Osama bin Laden put it in a videotaped message broadcast by al-Jazeera on November 1, 2004:

"All that we have to do is to send two Mujahedin to the farthest point East to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al-Qa'ida in order to make the generals race there to cause America to suffer human economic and political losses without their achieving for it anything of note.… So we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy."

The late terrorist leader went on to point out that

"Al-Qa'ida spent $500,000 on the [9/11 attacks], while America in the incident and its aftermath lost – according to the lowest estimates – more than 500 billion dollars, meaning that every dollar of al-Qa'ida defeated a million dollars by the permission of Allah besides the loss of a huge number of jobs. As for the size of the economic deficit, it has reached record, astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars. And even more dangerous and bitter for America is that the Mujahedin recently forced Bush to resort to emergency funds to continue the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq which is evidence of the success of the bleed-until-bankruptcy plan with Allah's permission."

As we scramble to defend New York City against a threat that may not even exist, bin Laden's ghost is laughing at us from beyond the grave.

Yet there are worse fates than mere bankruptcy. We are living in a world where, if you get up and go to the bathroom more than once while traveling on a airplane, the flight is diverted on account of your " suspicious behavior."

Hysteria has blinded us to the real threat. Even as the terrorists openly proclaim their "bleed-until-bankruptcy plan," we continue to travel down the same path to economic oblivion. It has been widely noted that the 19 hijackers appropriated our own high technology – airliners – and turned them against us, but little noted that they also appropriated our emotional commitment to a war of revenge and used it in a similar fashion. As bin Laden put it:

"So we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah is willing and nothing is too great for Allah. That being said, those who say that al-Qa'ida has won against the administration in the White House or that the administration has lost in this war have not been precise because when one scrutinizes the results, one cannot say that Al-Qa'ida is the sole factor in achieving these spectacular gains. Rather, the policy of the White House that demands the opening of war fronts to keep busy their various corporations – whether they be working in the field of arms or oil or reconstruction – has helped al-Qa'ida to achieve those enormous results."

New fronts in our endless "war on terrorism" are opened, it seems, with each passing week: Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, the Philippines, Pakistan, and now Libya – where we are carrying out the new co-optation strategy of the Obama administration, which seeks to hijack the "Arab Spring" and utilize it as a weapon of against Islamist extremism. By setting up US-aligned "democratic" states in the Middle East, from Egypt to Libya and beyond, the Americans hope to inoculate the region against the virus represented by al-Qaeda.

This is a dangerous policy in so many ways that it would take more than a single column to even list them. Suffice to say that recent events in Egypt, and the growing influence of Islamist elements among the Libyan rebels, underscores how the "blowback" from our efforts could backfire in our faces.

We've spent trillions fighting this losing battle, but more than money has been lost – we've forfeited our freedom. The barrage of legislation enacted since 9/11 that empowers our government to openly spy on us in ways that would have been inconceivable before has effectively abolished our old republic, and replaced it with something else – a misshapen, polyglot creature, half "democratic" and fully authoritarian, which cannot sustain itself economically, and – for all its vaunting about exercising "world leadership" – shows every sign of descending into an irreversible decline .

If some historian of the future should attempt to chronicle the decline of the American republic, the point when history made its fateful turn will be readily identifiable: September 11, 2001, the day the 9/11 coup d'etat was victorious. As President George W. Bush sat reading The Pet Goat to a group of schoolchildren while the World Trade Center and the Pentagon came under attack, the government was effectively taken over by Vice President Dick Cheney and a cabal of government officials already in place and ready to assume command of the world's mightiest superpower. From that moment on, the War Party had its hands on the reins of power, and they remain in the drivers seat to this day – albeit under another partisan alias.

For ten years they've been driving this country into the ground, just as bin Laden predicted they would. As dead as he is, he's having the last laugh: his strategy is working.

Speaking of strategies that work: the circumstances surrounding the terrorist icon's death point the way to fighting an effective campaign against those who plot and plan to pull off another 9/11. We didn't get bin Laden by launching a massive invasion, or by "democratizing" the Middle East: it was good old fashioned police work, meticulous and patiently executed, that finally nailed him in his lair. We didn't beat the Mafia by invading Italy – and we won't beat the Islamist Mafioso by conquering Afghanistan and occupying great swathes of the Muslim world. Unfortunately, our present rulers show no signs of having learned the lesson of their greatest success.

Yes, we do have enemies who want to kill us, but those ghouls who worship Thanatos understand that death can take on many forms. A man can still continue to exist long after he has betrayed everything that made him uniquely himself. Nations, too, can commit this kind of slow motion suicide, so that the passage from life to death can go undetected until it is far too late to reverse course.

Is it too late for us? I fear the answer to this question, because we cannot know it until that point is well behind us. I can only let the historians of the future argue the question, while here, in the present, I fight – in my small way – to influence their verdict.

Rick Perry has tried to distance himself from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), but in his capacity as head of the Republican Governors Association he released a letter, co-signed with a Democrat, on the day of the Senate vote urging Congress to "act now" for the sake of the economy. Fwd: [PAG] Joys of Muslim Women

---------

Muslim Women

This was written by a woman born in Egypt as a Muslim.
This is not hearsay, and it will scare the life out of you.
Make sure you read the paragraph (in red) towards the end.

Joys of Muslim Women By Nonie Darwish
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonie_Darwish
In
the Muslim faith a Muslim man can marry a child as young as 1 year old
and have sexual intimacy with this child.  Consummating the marriage by
9. The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the woman (who
becomes his slave) and for the purchase of the private parts of the
woman, to use her as a toy.
Even though a woman is abused she can not obtain a divorce.
To
prove rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses. Often after a woman
has been raped, she is returned to her family and the family must
return the dowry.
The family has the right to execute her (an honour killing) to restore the honour of the family.
Husbands can beat their wives 'at will' and he does not have to say why he has beaten her.
The husband is permitted to have (4 wives) and a temporary wife for an hour (prostitute) at his discretion.
The Shariah Muslim law controls the private as well as the public life of the woman.

In
the Western World ( America and Britain ) Muslim men are starting to
demand Shariah Law so the wife can not obtain a divorce and he can have
full and complete control of her.
It
is amazing and alarming how many of our sisters and daughters attending
American Universities and British Universities are now marrying Muslim
men and submitting themselves and their children unsuspectingly to the
Shariah law.
By passing this on, enlightened American and British women may avoid becoming a slave under Shariah Law.

Ripping the West in Two..

Author
and lecturer Nonie Darwish says the goal of radical Islamists is to
impose Shariah law on the world,  ripping Western law and liberty in
two.
She recently authored the book, Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law.
Darwish
was born in Cairo and spent her childhood in Egypt and Gaza before
immigrating to America in 1978,  when she was eight years old.
Her
father died while leading covert attacks on Israel.  He was a
high-ranking Egyptian military officer stationed with his family in
Gaza.  When he died, he was considered a "shahid," a martyr for Jihad.
His posthumous status earned Nonie and her family an elevated position
in Muslim society.
But Darwish developed a sceptical eye at an early age. She questioned her own Muslim culture and upbringing..

She converted to Christianity after hearing a Christian preacher on television.
In
her latest book, Darwish warns about creeping Sharia law - what it is,
what it means, and how it is manifested in Islamic countries.

For
the West, she says radical Islamists are working to impose Sharia on
the world.  If that happens, Western civilization will be destroyed.

Westerners generally assume all religions encourage a respect for the dignity of each individual.
Islamic
law (Sharia) teaches that non-Muslims should be subjugated or killed in
this world.  Peace and prosperity for one's children is not as
important as assuring that Islamic law rules everywhere in the Middle
East and eventually in the world.

While
Westerners tend to think that all religions encourage some form of the
golden rule, Sharia teaches two systems of ethics - one for Muslims and
another for non-Muslims.
Building
on tribal practices of the seventh century, Sharia encourages the side
of humanity that wants to take from and subjugate others.

While
Westerners tend to think in terms of religious people developing a
personal understanding of and relationship with God, Sharia advocates
executing people who ask difficult questions that could be interpreted
as criticism.

It's
hard to imagine, that in this day and age, Islamic scholars agree that
those who criticize Islam or choose to stop being Muslim should be
executed.

Sadly,
while talk of an Islamic reformation is common and even assumed by many
in the West, such murmurings in the Middle East are silenced through
intimidation.

While
Westerners are accustomed to an increase in religious tolerance over
time, Darwish explains how petro dollars are being used to grow an
extremely intolerant form of political Islam in her native Egypt and
elsewhere.

(In
twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. and Britain
To elect the President by themselves!   Rest assured they will do
so...   You can look at how they have taken over several towns in the
USA ..   Dearborn Mich. is one...  And there are others..)
(Britain has several cities now totally controlled by Muslims)

I
think everyone in Australia, U.S. and Great Britain should be required
to read this, but with the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely
publicized, unless each of us sends it on!
It
is too bad that so many are disillusioned with life and Christianity to
accept Muslims as peaceful...   Some may be but they have an army that
is willing to shed blood in the name of Islam..   The peaceful support
the warriors with their finances and own kind of patriotism to their
religion.
While
America and Britain is getting rid of Christianity from all public
sites and erasing God from the lives of children, the Muslims are
planning a great Jihad on America .   (Britain and probably Australia) .

This is your chance to make a difference...! Pass it on to your email list or at least those you think will listen..

Some of those I'm sending it to, WILL NOT!

Put your head back under the covers so you can't see the bogey man!

**JP** LETTER TO EDITOR _ Zardari Angiography

Dear Join Pakistan

LETTER TO EDITOR

September 11th, 2011

Zardari Angiography:

It was comforting to know that the doctors in the UK have given a clean bill of health and heart to President AAZ after his undergoing an angiography there.  It calls for sacrificing as many black goats by him and the Jialas as they can afford. The nation didn’t know about the suspected ailment of his heart which made him dart to London, as his voyage with entourage was being viewed as yet another private visit like his many previous sojourns or at the most a visit for a damage control meeting with Altaf Bhai in the wake of the bombs exploded by Zulfiqar Ali Mirza. Lucky we are that our President could be examined by the best and that he did not have to take a chance with the Cardiovascular Hospitals like AFIC Rawalpindi Cantt, Shifa International Islamabad, Hearts International Rawalpindi Cantt, Doctors’ Hospital Lahore, Punjab Cardiology Lahore, Agha Khan Karachi and many more treating hundreds of the lesser mortals daily.  Strangely, some of these ho spitals boast not only of their surgeons to be  world renowned but also being equipped with the latest electro-medical machinery and gadgets to carry out such simple angiographies by the dozens a day. I am sure the President would now take personal interest in improving the technical know-how and expertise further, if required, of these and other hospitals in the country so that next time he doesn’t have to scurry in a hurry and subject himself to the hazards of  the air travel which by itself could be damaging for a cardiovascular patient.

E-Verify says Obama not eligible for employment in U.S.

Click here: The Steady Drip: E-Verify says Obama not eligible for employment in the United States - Click image to enlarge <http://thesteadydrip.blogspot.com/2011/09/e-verify-says-obama-not-eligible-for.html>

E-Verify is an Internet-based system operated by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA). E-Verify is currently free to employers and is available in all 50 states. E-Verify provides an automated link to federal databases to help employers determine employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security numbers.
If you were an employer and entered Barack Hussein Obama's social security number 042-68-4425 into the data base to verify that he was eligible for employment in the United States you could not legally hire him.
Here is what everify would tell you about hiring Mr. Obama:

GOP operatives fear lasting Ron Paul problem

It is people who have life long careers, mainly in dc and sometimes NYC, running incumbents campaigns and working for the GOP

They exist

The former trade minister, who served under Margaret Thatcher, had joined forces with Scottish QC Professor Robert Black, and the pair provided political and legal expertise.

A former Conservative minister asked Muammar Gaddafi's fugitive son Saif al-Islam to help him recover almost £1million in fees for his efforts to free the Lockerbie bomber, it was reported today.

Details of Lord Trefgarne's claim for "fees owed" for advice to the Libyans ahead of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi's appeal case were uncovered in an abandoned farmhouse in the outskirts of Tripoli, according to the Sunday Times.

The former trade minister, who served under Margaret Thatcher, had joined forces with Scottish QC Professor Robert Black, and the pair provided political and legal expertise.

A letter, on House of Lords notepaper and dated June 4, 2007, to Saif - who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity - referred to a meeting in Britain, the newspaper said.

The note said while the £940,000 fee "may seem a large sum" it covered "nine years' work".

"During the course of our conversations in London I ventured to draw your attention to the problem being experienced by Professor Robert Black and myself in relation to fees owed over a considerable number of years," the letter said.

"The amount now owing following a small payment on account is 1.5m USD. This may seem a large sum but in fact represents nine years' remuneration, no less, for two senior professionals and is measurably below, we are told, the hourly/daily rates paid to some others.

"Professor Black and I would be very grateful for your advice on this matter."

Lord Trefgarne chairman of the Libyan British Business Council (LBBC), has insisted the money he actually received "barely covered expenses".

He added that the arrangement was "entirely proper" and reflected the circumstances of the time.

In a joint statement issued to the Press Association by Lord Trefgarne and Prof Black, the pair said in 1993 they began working towards unblocking the "impasse" that was preventing Megrahi's trial taking place because Libya refused to extradite him to Scotland or the United States.

It added: "Over the course of the next six years, Lord Trefgarne and Professor Black worked strenuously to secure acceptance of the neutral venue scheme that Professor Black formulated in early 1994.

"No payment was sought or received for these endeavours. It was only after Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi's conviction at Zeist in January 2001 and Professor Black had publicly expressed the strong view that that conviction was legally unwarranted, that an agreement was entered into with his lawyer, Dr Ibrahim Legwell, that Lord Trefgarne and Professor Black should receive payment for future political and legal advice on avenues of appeal.

"In the event the only sum actually paid barely covered expenses. Lord Trefgarne and Professor Black again emphasise that this was an entirely proper arrangement reflecting the circumstances of the time.

"Lord Trefgarne did declare this matter in the House of Lords Register in accordance with the rules then in force."
