MUSLIM HONOR KILLER: "Here, listen, my dear daughter, do you know that this is the last day? Tonight, you're going to die."

by barenakedislam

Did you know the first Muslim Honor Killing on American soil happened back in 1989? Of course not. They weren't calling them 'honor killings' back then. Come to think of it, they aren't calling them honor killings very often today, either.

NY TIMES  Tina (her full name was 'Palestina') was the last daughter at home and the most American of the family. She had lived in Brazil, Puerto Rico and on the West Bank, but she was happiest in St. Louis. An honor student, she played high school soccer over her father's objections. Again over his objections, she went to the junior prom, only to be taken away by family members.

ZEIN ISA, Muslim father of Tina

Hoping to hear evidence of terrorist activities, the Federal Bureau of Investigation planted listening devices in the tiny apartment of a Palestinian-American more than two years ago. What the F.B.I. taped were the screams of a teen-age girl being stabbed to death. Sadly, the FBI was not monitoring the tapes when the murder took place.

Now, a jury that heard the tape-recorded voice of the 16-year-old pleading in vain for her life has convicted her parents of murder and recommended that they be put to death.

The jury deliberated more than four hours Saturday before asking for the death penalty against Zein Isa and his wife, Maria. On Friday, the jurors had convicted them in the death of their daughter Tina, the father for stabbing her and the mother for holding her down.

The girl's screams and moans as she begged her parents not to kill her were captured by devices secretly planted in the apartment by Federal agents who were looking into possible illegal activities by Mr. Isa on behalf of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Cultures and Generations Clash.

Mr. Isa was born in Palestine and his wife in Brazil -- and the parents' attempts to control their daughter who, it seems, wanted to be an American teen-ager.

The seven-minute tape of the killing, on which the father is heard shouting in Arabic "Die quickly!" in answer to his daughter's cries, chilled the jury of seven women and five men and shocked court officials who thought they had seen and heard everything.

"It's worse than any movie, any film, anything I thought that I would ever hear in my life," said Bob Craddick, an assistant prosecutor for seven years, who has heard the tape seven or eight times.

Judge Charles A. Shaw of Circuit Court set a Dec. 13 sentencing date for Mr. Isa, 61, a naturalized American citizen, and his wife, 48. The only alternative to the death sentence is life in prison without parole. The defendants are expected to appeal the verdict.

The Isa's defense said  the tape from Nov. 6, 1989, tells a story not of murder but of a struggle in which Mr. Isa killed the girl in self-defense after she threatened them and demanded money. The parents also maintained that their daughter may have been using drugs or alcohol, and that she had defied them by dating a young man they disapproved of.

On the night of her death...

Tina's father says: "Here, listen, my dear daughter, do you know that this is the last day. Tonight, you're going to die?"

Tina responds: "Huh?"

Zein Isa replies: "Do you know that you are going to die tonight?"

The girl's mother asks her questions about items in her schoolbag. In the midst of her conversation with her mother, Tina begins to shriek in fear.

"Keep still, Tina!" says her father.

"Mother, please help me!"

"Huh? What do you mean?" the mother says.

"Help! Help!"

"What help?" the mother responds.

Tina screams, and Maria says: "Are you going to listen? Are you going to listen?"

Screaming louder, Tina gasps: "Yes! Yes! Yes, I am!" then coughs and adds, "No. Please!" Six Wounds in Chest

The mother says, "Shut up!"

Tina continues to cry, but her voice is unintelligible.

"Die! Die quickly! Die quickly!" the father says.

The girl moans, seems to quiet, then screams one last time.

"Quiet, little one! Die my daughter, die!" the father says.

Tina was stabbed six times in the chest with a boning knife, which pierced her heart, one lung, and liver, investigators said. Mr. Zein admitted on the witness stand that he put his foot on his daughter's mouth to quiet her.

After the verdicts were read, an agitated family friend who would give her name only as Mrs. Abraham expressed her dismay at what she saw as the jury's failure to acknowledge the Palestinian culture. "I feel it's not right. We follow our religion," said Mrs. Abraham. She said the Isas had to discipline their daughter or lose respect. "They'd be embarrassed in front of everybody in the country like somebody when they go without their clothes outside."

WINDERMERE, Fla.--Next time, Eddie Dillard won't wear flip-flops.

Dillard, a 29-year-old Ron Paul supporter from this suburb near Orlando, arrived to vote at his precinct at Winderemere Baptist Church early Tuesday morning. Pulling into the parking lot, Dillard noticed a man outside the polling place with a Gingrich sign. He decided to run home, slip into his "Ron Paul Rocks America" T-shirt, grab a "Ron Paul 2012" sign from his garage, and return to give his candidate some representation outside the precinct after he cast his vote.
Dillard found a quiet spot along a sidewalk lined with tiny American flags and held up his sign. Little did he know, Newt Gingrich had chosen that very spot to make his first Primary Day campaign stop.
When Gingrich's bus pulled up, Dillard stood silently holding his sign and watched the news-media horde swamp the candidate. Gingrich stepped down from the bus and made a beeline for Dillard. He stopped in front of Dillard and his sign and parked himself for a round of handshaking and pictures with voters. The placement couldn't have been worse. There was Gingrich, standing with his wife Callista at their first event of the day, and a giant Ron Paul sign floated inches from their crowns.
Noticing the awkward optics, Gingrich aides and security personnel swarmed Dillard, trying to intimidate him into moving. One of Gingrich's security agents stepped in front of him. When Dillard didn't budge, the agent lifted his heeled shoe over Dillard's bare foot and dug the back of it into his skin, twisting it side-to-side like he was stomping out a cigarette. Shocked, Dillard kept his ground and took a picture of the agent with his phone, which was quickly knocked out of his hand. Dillard slipped off his flip-flop to pick up the phone with his foot, and a Gingrich supporter kicked the sandal away.
"Don't kick me!" Dillard said to the man who knocked away his sandal. More members of Gingrich's security retinue approached, shoving their shoulders and chests in front of him.
"Just block him!" a Gingrich campaign aide said. "Everyone step on his toes!"
Gingrich supporters handed a "Newt 2012" yard sign up to the front to put in front of Dillard's Paul sign. The two signs, zipping back and forth inches from Gingrich's head, circled each other in the air like a fighter jets in a dogfight.
When the candidate finished taking pictures with voters, furious Gingrich aides grilled Dillard.
"If we did this to you, you guys would be furious," said an aide before stomping back toward the bus. "They have no class. No class."
As Gingrich pulled away, Dillard looked down at his foot. With the adrenaline pumping, he hadn't noticed the pain, but now it was starting to sink in. A bruise was forming, and there was a cut mark where the security agent had dug in his heel.
"That was really something," Dillard said afterwards. "My heart's racing. Not what I expected to happen today."

Re: Pink Slip 0.006% Romney Beats Newt Bedhopper Swingrich in Corporate Funded Florida Primary

The Nation: How Romney Beat Gingrich In Florida
by Ben Adler

Romney defeated Newt Gingrich and other challengers to win Florida's
primary. The contest now moves on to other states in February.

Ben Adler is a blogger for The Nation.

Florida is a big state in terms of both geography and population.
Consequently — and also because it does not receive the wildly
disproportionate attention that Iowa and New Hampshire do — it cannot
be won through old-fashioned grassroots politicking alone. The Florida
campaign is fought primarily on the airwaves, so it takes money to
compete there. That's why candidates who excel more in exciting an
ideological base on a limited budget, such as Ron Paul and Rick
Santorum, skipped Florida to focus on upcoming caucus states, starting
with Nevada.
Paul had his weakest showing thus far in Florida, with only 7 percent.
Santorum told CNN on Tuesday night that he stopped campaigning in
Florida because he lacked the funds to compete there. It's too bad for
him. After a strong debate performance on Thursday this might have
been his moment. Despite barely campaigning in Florida he came in
third place with 13 percent.
But Tuesday night belonged to Mitt Romney, who vastly outspent his
opponents. According to USA Today, "Restore our Future, an outside
group supporting Romney, accounted for about $8.8 million in the ad
wars, and the candidate and the 'super PAC' combined outspent Gingrich
and Winning The Future, the organization backing him, by about $15.5
million to $3.3 million." These ads were overwhelmingly negative.
Romney did not so much win as he defeated Gingrich.
Here are the two main reasons Romney won Florida by a commanding 47
percent to Gingrich's 32 percent.
Demographics are destiny. As exit polls show, Romney's relative
strengths and weaknesses among different segments of the Republican
electorate remain fairly stable from state to state, but the
composition of the electorate changes. Florida's Republican electorate
was more demographically favorable to him than than of Iowa or South
Carolina. First of all, it's old, which helps Romney and Gingrich and
hurts Santorum and Paul. In every state thus far we've seen Paul's
support, and to a lesser extent Santorum's, skew younger while
Gingrich's and Rommey's lean older. Among voters 65 and older, who
compose 36 percent of the Florida Republican electorate, Romney won 51
percent and Gingrich got 34 percent. Only six percent of the
electorate was under 30, and no exit poll breakdown for how they voted
is available. But among 30-39 year-olds Romney got 37 percent to
Gingrich's 25, while Paul got 18 percent and Santorum won 17 percent.
The other big demographic advantage for Romney was the relative
moderation of Florida's Republican voters compared to South Carolina.
He's still having trouble sealing the deal with the most conservative
Republicans, but luckily for him they were not as big a factor. Among
the one-third of voters who identified themselves as "very
conservative," Gingrich won with 41 percent to Romney's 30 and
Santorum's 22. But Romney trounced Gingrich and Santorum among voters
who identified as "somewhat conservative" and voters who described
themselves as moderate or liberal, winning majorities in both
categories. This is why Romney is clearly the GOP's strongest
potential candidate in swing states such as Florida. That, in turn, is
why the Republican establishment came out with overwhelming force in
Romney's favor, or at least against Gingrich.
Here's another way — one that is being largely misrepresented in the
media — of looking at the conservative versus moderate divide.
Commentators are pointing to the fact that Romney edged out Gingrich
41-37 among the 65 percent of voters who said they support the Tea
Party as evidence that Romney is finally winning over the Tea Party
movement. But simply saying "yes" to the question of whether you
support the Tea Party is not the same as really being a member of the
Tea Party. If you asked Democrats whether they support the
environmental movement you might find two-thirds say yes, but the vast
majority of those people would not be representative of dedicated
environmental activists.
Among the 35 percent of voters who said they "strongly support" the
Tea Party movement, Gingrich beat Romney 45-35. But Romney won 50-28
among the 30 percent who said they "somewhat support" the Tea Party,
and he won landslides among those who said they hold neutral or
negative views of the Tea Party. (Romney beat Gingrich 57 to 22 and 62
to 17 among those two groups, respectively.)
So among Florida Republicans "Tea Party support" is just another term
for conservatism. The bad news for Romney: the voters who are very
conservative and strongly support the Tea Party might be the voters
most likely to show up in lower-profile primaries and caucuses, where
turnout is lower and the most partisan, ideological and activist
voters tend to be over-represented. The good news? Romney remains
stronger with prospective swing voters, which might bode well for
relatively moderate upcoming states like Michigan and Ohio, and in the
general election.
You can even view this same phenomenon through the prism of geography.
In Florida, as you go north Romney's numbers go south. He dominated
Gingrich in South Florida, 56 to 28, but he had smaller margins of
victory in the Tampa and Orlando areas. In North Florida and the
Panhandle, Gingrich beat Romney, 39 to 38. Of course, in Florida the
north is the South. The South is Republicans' strongest region, and it
remains relatively favorable to Gingrich and unfavorable to Romney.
That being said, Romney performed better in the Panhandle than he did
in South Carolina. And central and Southern Florida look a lot more
like some of the upcoming states — and crucial swing states this Fall
— such as Nevada and Colorado.
Another important demographic factor for Romney was religion. Only 40
percent of the electorate in Florida were white evangelical
Christians. Gingrich edged Romney among those voters 38 to 36. Romney
beat Gingrich 2 to 1 among all other voters. Romney is lucky that
evangelicals are not a majority of Florida Republicans, as they were
in the Iowa caucus and South Carolina primary.
Effective attacks. Gingrich and Romney may make a lot of petty
accusations about whose personal gains from lobbying or investing were
more ill-gotten, but Romney also went after Gingrich on substance.
He had plenty to work with. One devastating Romney ad consisted
entirely of a clip from the NBC Nightly News in 1997, when Tom Brokaw
opened with a report on then-Speaker Gingrich being found guilty by
his colleagues of ethical improprieties. The text was so strong it's
worth repeating in full:
Good evening. Newt Gingrich, who came to power, after all, preaching a
higher standard in American politics, a man who brought down another
speaker on ethics accusations, tonight he has on his own record the
judgment of his peers, Democrat and Republican alike. By an
overwhelming vote, they found him guilty of ethics violations; they
charged him a very large financial penalty, and they raised – several
of them – raised serious questions about his future effectiveness.

Romney to Florida Seniors:
More False Promises, More False Claims

The following statement was issued today by Edward F. Coyle, Executive
Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans.

"Last night at a Florida senior center, presidential candidate Mitt
Romney once again couldn't stop himself from telling an audience what
they wanted to hear - even if it wasn't true.

"Romney told retirees, 'we will never go after Medicare or Social
Security,' even though he supports the Ryan budget to give seniors
small vouchers to buy coverage from private insurance companies; wants
to raise the Social Security retirement age; and wants to let Wall
Street gamble away - and profit from - privatized Social Security
accounts. For a notoriously inconsistent politician, Mitt Romney has a
long, clear record of wanting to privatize Social Security and
Medicare.
"Two sentences later, Romney doubled-down with, 'there's only one
president in history that's cut Medicare $500 billion and that's
Barack Obama. And guess what he did it for? He did it to pay for
Obamacare.' Romney failed to mention that President Obama extended the
life of the Medicare Trust Fund by seven years by courageously
standing up to the big insurance companies who were being subsidized
by the taxpayers - at a cost of $1000 per year for each senior - to
provide the same services that Medicare could do for 14 percent less.
"To Mitt Romney, Social Security and Medicare are just two more ways
to pander to the crowd. But for millions of seniors, Social Security
and Medicare are the lifelines that allow them to pay their bills and
stay healthy. Seniors cannot let Mitt Romney hide from the truth on
these important issues."

HONOR IN ISLAM…honor killings, honor mutilations, honor gougings

New post on Bare Naked Islam

HONOR IN ISLAM…honor killings, honor mutilations, honor gougings

by barenakedislam

A Bangladeshi college professor's husband allegedly gouged her eyes out when he suspected her of cheating.

The Daily Beast  Rumana Monzur, 33, became an assistant professor at Dhaka University in the country's capital, and a year ago set out to earn a master's degree in political science as a Fulbright scholar at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. This past May, missing her husband and 5-year-old daughter, she returned to Dhaka to write her dissertation. Little did she know her world would soon turn dark, quite literally.

A Muslim, she completed her late-afternoon prayer, and returned to the computer, her daughter drawing on the bed nearby.  Monzur's husband, Syeed Hasan Sumon, came in and she showed him her Facebook page of photos from her life in Canada, doing yoga and ice skating with friends after which he flew into a rage, accusing her of an affair with an Iranian student in Canada.

Sumon pulled his wife's hair, throwing her to the bed and pinning her arms down with his legs, she says. Then, in an account that is bone-chilling, she says her husband pressed his fingers into her eyes, gouging them out. According to Monzur, he gnawed at her cheek, lips, and nose, biting off bits of flesh, blood spilling throughout the room as Monzur flailed. Her daughter, Anusheh, stood in a corner of the room, screaming, as two household servants struggled to open the locked door. A neighbor took her to the hospital, where her parents soon arrived. The diagnosis: blindness. "I lost my eyes," says Monzur. "I don't want anyone to suffer like I am suffering. It is horrible."

Rumana Monzur is now unable to see her daughter Anoushe, who was in the room during the horrific attack by her father

Two days later, Bangladeshi police arrested Monzur's husband, presenting him to the media handcuffed in jeans and a striped T shirt outside the police detectives' headquarters. According to a Bangladesh online news story, headlined "Hassan Alleges Betrayal By Rumana," the husband launched the type of smear campaign Monzur's father had feared: "She had an affair with an Iranian male during her stay in Canada for her studies since August last year," he told the press. He had deleted the Iranian man's name from her Facebook friends, he said. "Finding the Iranian guy's name deleted, she attacked me, and we had a scuffle," he said. "I lost my glasses and since I don't see well, she might have been hurt in the fight."

A month after the attack, in her hospital room in Dhaka, Monzur's voice trembled as she related details from her marriage. She says he started beating her a few days after they were married in 2001, with a respite for a few years when he was "good," causing her to overlook his alleged abuse. Her father supported her leaving her husband. Her in-laws urged her to stay with him, until they returned from the U.S., family members say. The night of the attack, she said, "he pulled my hair and pressed me against the bed and grabbed my neck. He put his fingers into my eyes. He threatened me when he left that he would not let me live. He will kill me no matter where I go."

"In Canada I learned how to dream," Romana Monzur told The Globe and Mail in an interview. She says she hopes to regain her sight to finish her studies and take care of her daughter.

But, in the way that this story was handled differently than many, this wasn't just another headline about an attempted "honor killing" by a disgraced Muslim man. This time, the local and diaspora Bangladeshi community challenged the justification of violence. When a reporter asked Monzur at a second press conference about the allegations of an affair, Bangladeshi colleagues of Monzur, including her former professor, Mohsin, shouted, "Shame! Shame!" to quiet the spurious claims. "We have to change the very concept of what is 'good' and what is 'bad' in our societies," says Mohsin. "We have to shame the perpetrators."

UPDATE: On Dec.. 4, 2011, Hasan Sayeed Sumon, who tortured and blinded his wife Rumana Manzur, was found dead in his prison cell at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

Rumana went back in Canada to receive what she hopes will be treatment to allow her to see again.

Romney: A Big Phat Liar: More False Promises, More False Claims

Romney: A Big Phat Liar Inbox

From brembelia

We all know that Republicans have two faces like Janus, and they talk
out of both sides of their faces. Last night was yet another example
of phat cats telling the public anything they want to hear to get into
power to screw the public over again and again.

Below is a memo from the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans
(FLARA)Pass it around and help get the truth out!

Thanks!
