Four Arrested in Brutal Beating, Branding of Gay Chilean Man Daniel Zamudio

Four Arrested in Brutal Beating, Branding of Gay Chilean Man

Four suspects in the brutal attack on Chilean gay man Daniel Zamudio
have been arrested, Chilean news outlets are reporting. Zamudio, 24,
was burned, had his ear sliced, and was branded with a Swastika by his
attackers.

Writes Michael Lavers at EDGE:

Prosecutors maintain that Raúl Alfonso López Fuentes, 25, Alejandro
Axel Angulo Tapia, 26, Patricio Iván Ahumada Garay, 25, and Fabián
Alexis Mora Mora, 19, brutally attacked Daniel Zamudio, 24, in Parque
San Borja on March 6. The suspects allegedly struck Zamudio with
bottles, rocks and other blunt objects before they cut off part of his
ear, carved swastikas into his chest and burned other parts of his
body with cigarettes.

El Movimiento de Integración y Liberación Homosexual (Movilh) and
various Chilean newspapers have reported that López, Angulo, Ahumada
and Mora called themselves "nazis del Centro" or "the Downtown Nazis."

Movilh spokesperson Rolando Jiménez told El Mercurio after police
arrested the four suspects that they confessed to the crime. "We are
happy," said Jiménez. "When the authorities told me (about the
arrests) I immediately called Daniel's family."

Photos of the suspects under arrest can be seen here.

Zamudio has reportedly regained consciousness, according to the LGBT
rights group MOVILH.

Everything the Sarah Palin Movie "Game Change" Gets Horribly Wrong

Everything the Sarah Palin Movie "Game Change" Gets Horribly Wrong
HBO's "Game Change" presents Palin as simply a bumbling Tina Fey --
and misses the real story of the 2008 campaign.

HBO's "Game Change," airing this Saturday, is not actually an
adaption of the book "Game Change," by Mark Halperin and John
Heilemann. It is "Sarah Palin Goes Rogue," the movie, with a couple of
anecdotes borrowed from the notoriously gossipy account of the 2008
election as a whole. (Or, arguably,it's an adaptation of Scott Conroy
and Shushannah Walshe's "Sarah From Alaska.")

That is sort of a shame. The Palin thing is the most heavily
over-covered story line of the entire 2008 campaign, so focusing on it
might be totally logical from a marketing perspective, but it's
unfortunate from an artistic one. The film re-creates various moments
of YouTube campaign ephemera very well — remember when that old white
lady called Obama an Arab and McCain looked uncomfortable? When it
takes us behind closed doors, it's to witness scenes any moderately
close observer of the election and its aftermath could've dreamed up
him- or herself. It might have been fun to see a TV movie about the
Democratic primary fight; the personality clashes of the disastrous
Clinton campaign would have made for entertaining television, and Mark
Penn is surely a creature crying out for a grotesque Emmy-winning
portrayal by, say, Paul Giamatti.

Instead, McCain has won the nomination three-and-a-half minutes into
the film. Soon we're watching Julianne Moore watch Tina Fey on TV. You
remember the "SNL" sketches making fun of Palin, right? In case you
don't, "Game Change" airs lengthy chunks from most of them. It also
has tons of actual footage from CNN and MSNBC and Fox News, and it
re-creates debates and speeches and the Couric interview and the
Charlie Gibson interview and a bunch of other things you saw either
live or on YouTube when they happened.

Moore's performance is not just fair but maybe even flattering. (For
one thing, she doesn't hit those flat upper Midwest vowels as
gratingly as the real Palin.) Woody Harrelson plays strategist Steve
Schmidt — the film's protagonist — as a grizzled, "too old for this
shit" campaign veteran called back to the trail against his better
judgment. Jamey Sheridan is given barely anything to do as Mark
Salter, McCain's "conscience." Salter, the primary author of his
"Maverick" mythos, is limited, after the Palin selection, to making a
hilariously over-telegraphed face of concern as everyone else in the
war room applauds her first speech.

But the film is about Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace because they were
pretty clearly Halperin and Heilemann's primary sources, and we watch
them become horrified by the depths of Sarah Palin's ignorance at
exactly the same time as everyone else in America became horrified by
her ignorance.

Because it's Hollywood, there's very little politics in the film's
depiction of politics. Policies are simply things for Sarah Palin to
write on note cards and not memorize. Operatives confidently declare,
in faux Sorkin-ese patter, that if this or that meaningless decision
is made, it means "we'll lose by five."

There is a sheen of faux cynicism (McCain swears like a sailor!) but
it masks complete naiveté: Everyone is basically honorable and decent.
Nicolle Wallace — a member of the Bush administration communications
team — is sincerely alarmed at the prospect of someone as dangerously
ignorant as Sarah Palin in the White House. On election night, she
breaks down in tears as she admits to Schmidt that … she didn't vote.
They embrace.

The film subscribes to the simplest theory of Sarah Palin: That she is
childlike, vain and incredibly ignorant but also an essentially decent
person and wonderful mother. The moments that come closest to "unfair"
— Sarah Palin doesn't know that the head of Great Britain's government
is the prime minister, not the queen — are basically plausible. This
isn't Andrew Sullivan's conniving, dangerous pathological liar. It's
an overwhelmed working mother whose most unhinged moments are
explained by a crash diet. Her convention speech is largely stripped
of its snarling attack lines, imagining a world in which it appealed
to "the base" because of Palin's heartfelt commitment to special-needs
children and not because she was very good at saying mean things about
Obama. (The film actually repeats the bullshit story that her
teleprompter broke midway through, and she kept going.) Even when the
film has her take a major heel turn — "if I am single-handedly
carrying this campaign, I am gonna do what I want!" — after "winning"
her debate with Joe Biden (played by video footage of Joe Biden), she
is still basically an innocent seduced by the adoration of riled-up
crowds and national attention. (Todd Palin barely does anything.)

The constant use of actual news footage adds a bit of verisimilitude
but also constantly raises the question of why this lightly
fictionalized version of the election actually needs to exist. "Game
Change" is not really for serious political junkies, who remember all
the stuff that did happen and will scoff at the stuff that didn't. (At
one point, John McCain answers his ringing iPhone in the middle of the
night. He used a BlackBerry, HBO.) But if casually politically
involved people want to see their assumptions about Sarah Palin
reinforced, well, there are still those "SNL" sketches.

In the end, the Republican operatives who foisted Sarah Palin on an
unprepared nation are rightly horrified that they created a monster,
but at no point does anyone act concerned that their actual candidate
was himself an angry, warmongering old crank with extremely fungible
principles. Sure, Sarah Palin didn't know what the Fed did. Do we have
any proof John McCain knew what it should've done? Maybe everyone
actually was totally unfair to poor Sarah Palin.

New York's Irish St Patrick's Day parade excludes gays, grapples with march of time

New York's Irish parade grapples with march of time, excludes gays

With its controversial history, Manhattan's St Patrick's Day parade
has become an event where ideas of Irishness collide, writes FRIEDA
KLOTZ

ON A WEDNESDAY evening in the middle of January, about 150 men and
women gathered in the president's room of the New York Athletic Club,
just by Central Park. Many Irish-American associations were
represented: the United Irish Counties, the Gaelic Societies, the
various Emerald Guilds and Holy Name Societies, the Ancient Order of
Hibernians and its women's counterpart the Ladies Ancient Order of
Hibernians, and others.
Everyone in the room stood up and said an Our Father and then a Hail
Mary. John Dunleavy, originally from Coole, Co Westmeath, and now from
Riverdale in the Bronx, said a prayer for the 251st St Patrick's Day
parade, and then it was time for business.

This was the delegates' meeting of the New York City St Patrick's Day
Parade. It is the biggest Irish parade in the world, drawing up to
three million spectators and watched by millions more on television.
For a day it shuts down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in a spectacle of
green and gold and military display. It is a huge logistical
operation, requiring months of planning, fundraising and liaising with
city authorities.

The committee's 25 men and two women, all volunteers, have decades of
experience. Dunleavy counts 41 years, the past 19 as chairman; Hilary
Beirne, an officer, has helped for 24. Beirne jokes that committee
members' spouses become parade widows from January to March.

During the 1970s and early 1980s the event was plagued by riotous
behaviour, until the police and the parade organisers cracked down.
The committee is still haunted by the cliche of Irish drinking. Strict
rules now ordain how marchers should behave: business attire is
required; no green hats, sneakers or oddball dress; no animals or
mascots; no eating, drinking or smoking.

Dunleavy says there is no desire to return to the unruliness of those
decades. "Alcohol consumption back then was absolutely horrendous," he
says. "They were drunk as skunks along on Fifth Avenue. And then up
along on Central Park, the debauchery that was going on with men and
women – forget about it."

The Fifth Avenue parade is not the only one in New York. Throughout
March, St Patrick's celebrations flower across the city. They have
already taken place in Staten Island and Sunnyside, in Queens, and
will soon be on in the Bronx (tomorrow) and Brooklyn (March 18th).

These events are not so much about Ireland as about being Irish in the
US. "It's a people reinterpreting their identity and reasserting their
understanding of it in another country," says Peter Quinn, a writer
whose ancestors came over to the US in 1847. He is a co-grand marshal
of the parade in Queens. "The minute the Irish got off the boat in New
York they were no longer Irish – they were still Irish, but they were
becoming something else."

But as the largest St Patrick's celebration in the city, the Fifth
Avenue event has become the most fraught – a hub where different
ideals of Irishness meet and often collide. Until the 1990s, it was
sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, self-described as "a
Catholic, fraternal organisation", and many on the parade committee
are still Hibernian members.

As some parts of the Irish community have grown more liberal,
divisions have opened up, and gay and lesbian groups have protested
vociferously at their exclusion.

Organisers point out that gay individuals are free to march, just not
to publicise their sexuality. But activists such as Brendan Fay say
this is an attempt to push them back into the closet.

"Ordinary decent people roll their eyes and wonder what it's all
about," says Fay, who was arrested multiple times for attempting to
participate in the Fifth Avenue parade. He eventually founded the St
Pat's for All parade, a smaller festival going through Sunnyside and
Woodside that espouses a deliberately inclusive ethos.

Last month the Consul General of Ireland, Noel Kilkenny, held a party
for the St Pat's for All parade at his residence, at which its grand
marshals were announced. It was the first time this had happened (and
another first: the Government sent Minister of State Kathleen Lynch to
St Pat's for All as its representative). Several politicians attended,
including the 84-year-old former mayor of New York David Dinkins.

Dinkins's presence was symbolic. Back in 1991 Dinkins, who was New
York's first African-American mayor, marched with the Irish Lesbian
and Gay Organisation, whose participation was extremely controversial,
instead of at the head of the parade. A report from the time in the
New York Times describes how the mayor was forced to duck to avoid
beer cans that hurtled through the air in his direction.

Tensions also flared among the Hibernians themselves. The parade of
1993 was almost cancelled, as a split occurred between those in favour
of and those against gay inclusion. Two years later the US supreme
court came to a decision on the Boston parade, which also held for New
York: under the first amendment, parade sponsors had a right to
exclude marchers whose message they reject.

The Fifth Avenue parade has swum in complex political waters
throughout its history. In 1983, an 81-year-old named Michael Flannery
was chosen as grand marshal. He had been a founder of Noraid, a
fundraising organisation set up after the start of the Troubles, and
was an open supporter of the IRA. In a gesture that made headlines,
Cardinal Terence Cooke declined to shake Flannery's hand. Today the
parade's website still states: "The only banners allowed are ones
identifying the unit or 'England Get Out of Ireland'." Only a handful
of groups choose that message, but Dunleavy says that for now it will
remain. "My policy is that until there's a united Ireland it should
stay there."

At a reception for the grand marshal and aides of the Fifth Avenue
parade at Antun's, a restaurant, late last month, there was little
hint of this fractious past. Irish America was on display in its most
familiar and traditional forms: green tablecloths and orange napkins
on the tables, girls in green dresses and boys sporting green ties.
Noel Kilkenny was there, as was the New York senator Chuck Schumer,
who sponsored the E3 visa Bill on immigration earlier this year. After
dinner, a band played 1960s hits interspersed with jigs. Eddie Fee, a
dark-haired 48-year-old from Woodside, did a skilful reel.

After his dance Fee suggested that "people in Ireland are trying to
get away from there and people in New York are trying to go back."
It's an apt definition of the Irish-American paradox.

Yet values have changed and are still changing, both in Ireland and in
New York. Donal O'Conghaile, a 23-year-old from Boyle, in Co
Roscommon, arrived in New York on March 17th last year and now works
in online marketing. "Being Irish is seen very favourably, and people
automatically like you when they hear that you're Irish," he says.

As a young gay man, however, he finds the parade committee's refusal
to allow homosexual groups to march disturbing. "I guess they see the
parade as a family thing and somehow gay groups aren't family
friendly. But it is ridiculous, and I cannot imagine it going on for
much longer."

To Donal Foreman, a 26-year-old film-maker, critic and teacher, the
issue is "ridiculous and offensive. It's supposed to be a parade
representing Ireland. Any community or group from Ireland should be
allowed to participate."

Foreman is not keen to engage with the Fifth Avenue parade's brand of
Irishness. "Some people when they come out like to surround themselves
with Irish people and be part of that culture, but one of the reasons
I came was to engage with everything else," he says. "There is so much
going on that I couldn't get in Ireland. I don't find myself pining
for that kind of stuff."

Complex route The parade's divided history

During the 19th century the Ancient Order of Hibernians became the
official sponsor of the New York City St Patrick's Day Parade.

The parade has a storied history, but the past 20 years have generated
a wealth of controversy, as tensions flared within the Irish
community, with New York city officials, and within the order itself.

In 1991 rifts began to appear that would lead to what the Irish Echo
called a "battle over the shape and future of the parade". The county
board of the Hibernians sued the state board of the Hibernians and, as
part of the subsequent agreement, the parade chairman resigned. In
1992, the New York City Commission on Human Rights and the Irish
Lesbian and Gay Organisation (Ilgo) also brought a case against the
Hibernians for excluding gay groups, but the federal judge declined to
intervene.

A year later, an Irish Echo headline ran "Parade War Getting Nasty".
When some Hibernians who favoured gay participation obtained the
parade permit from the city, the Hibernians' national president called
for a boycott. The gay-friendly faction withdrew. Celebrations went
ahead without a grand marshal, and 230 members and supporters of Ilgo
were arrested in protests – a pattern that would continue, to a lesser
extent, throughout that decade.

Today an independent committee is responsible for the parade. John
Dunleavy, the committee chairman, was at one point a member of the
Hibernians, but he says he "kind of dropped out".

Dunleavy says the Hibernians "participate in the parade but, as
regards running the parade, they don't have any say". The parade is
run by St Patrick's Day Parade Inc.

Lawsuit Claims Obama Can’t Be President Because He’s Black. Seriously.

Lawsuit Claims Obama Can't Be President Because He's Black. Seriously.
February 24, 2012
By Justin "Filthy Liberal Scum" Rosario

If there is silver lining in the greasy dark cloud that right wing
politics has become it's that the Right has dropped any and all
pretense. We knew, years ago, that the fight over abortion was really
about contraception for women. Rick Santorum and his fellow candidates
have been kind enough to drag that one kicking and screaming into the
light for all to behold. But more importantly, the core of pure racism
that the GOP has thrived on for half a century has cracked the paper
thin veneer of respectability conservatives have carefully
constructed. With the election of a black man to the White House, that
racial hatred has come pouring out so fast it's almost impossible to
imagine that only four years ago, people were referring to America as
a post-racial country.

Not even close.

The biggest clue? Birtherism. The various legal shenanigans attempted
by Birthers all boil down to one very simple premise: Obama cannot be
president of the United States because he's black. Period. Questioning
his birth certificate. Questioning whether having an African father
makes him not an American citizen. Always some new "question" as to
his legitimacy as president. All of these are just window dressing.
The problem is, and always has been, he's black.

Well, at least one Alaskan (no, it's not Palin) has decided to just go
ahead and say.

Earlier this week, Gordon Warren Epperly filed a lawsuit to have Obama
removed from the November ballot. His (rather brazen) reasoning?

Barack Hussein Obama II, a.k.a. Barack Hussein Obama, a.ka. Barack H.
Obama has the race status of being a "mulatto." Barack Obama's father
(Barack Hussein Obama I) was a full blood Negro being born Nyang'oma
Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya and raised in the Colony of Kenya.
Barack Obama's mother (Stanley Ann Dunham) was a white Caucasian woman
being born in Wichita, Kansas on November 29, 1942 and raised in the
state of Washington and in the state of Hawaii.

As stated above, for an Individual to be a candidate for the office of
president of the United States, the candidate must meet the
qualifications set forth in the United States Constitution and one of
those qualifications is that the Candidate shall be a "natural born
citizen" of the United States. As Barack Hussein Obama II is of the
"mulatto" race, his status of citizenship is founded upon the
Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Before the
[purported] ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment, the race of
"Negro" or "mulatto" had no standing to be citizens of the United
States under the United States Constitution.

As the fourteenth amendment is only a grant of "civil rights" and not
a grant of "political rights" Barack Hussein Obama II does not have
and "political rights" under any provision of the United States
Constitution to hold any Public Office of the United States
government.

So, because President Obama is half-black, or more crassly, a Mulatto,
he has no "political rights" under the Constitution. This would also
include, by the way, the right to vote, the right to peaceably
assemble, etc.

Such honesty is refreshing, really. Of course, Mr. Epperly goes into
the grand conspiracy of the mysterious birth certificate, but the main
thrust of his argument is that black people are not real Americans.
It's about time a conservative just came out and admitted it. Don't be
fooled by right wing protestations of it being an ISOLATED INCIDENT,
this is how they think. America, to them, is a White (not white,
White) Christian nation that is theirs by right. Obama is just a black
usurper. Who do you think they're talking about when they scream "I
want my country back!"?

Bribed By Saudi Money, U.S. Schools Allow Islamic Indoctrination

Bribed By Saudi Money, U.S. Schools Allow Islamic Indoctrination

by burkasrugly

Fellow infidels,
This is a very, very serious situation that we are facing...namely the indoctrination of our children to hate the country we love so well. It is not only America that is being torn down, but it is our Christian heritage that is being assaulted. Please take a few minutes to watch this very important video featuring ACT! for America founder Brigitte Gabriel. Ms. Gabriel presents the FACTS that show that our junior high students are now being indoctrinated to hate their own country. The radicals have been successful at the college level, so now they have begun an assault on our middle school children. Knowledge is power. Please watch the video.

Until next time,

You Don't Need a Cyber Attack to Take Down The North American Power Grid

You Don't Need a Cyber Attack to Take Down The North American Power Grid

http://globalguerrillas.typepad.com/globalguerrillas/2012/03/you-dont-need-a
-cyber-attack-to-take-down-the-north-american-power-grid.html

The Obama administration simulated a cyber attack on New York City's power
supply in a Senate demonstration aimed at winning support for legislation to
boost the nation's computer defenses. Senators from both parties gathered
behind closed doors in the Capitol Wednesday for the classified briefing
attended by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, FBI Director
Robert Mueller and other administration officials. The mock attack on the
city during a summer heat wave was "very compelling," said Sen. Susan
Collins, R-Maine, who is co-sponsoring a cybersecurity bill supported by
President Barack Obama. "It illustrated the problem and why legislation is
desperately needed," she said as she left the briefing. Bloomberg.

The US defense industry is in a full court press to get tens of billions in
funding for cyberwarfare.

To get that funding, they need to dramatize the potential threat of
cyberwarfare.  Here's how.  The central method of attack in cyberwarfare is
systems disruption.  Systems disruption is a way to break networks to
achieve extremely high levels of damage (or, in financial terms, high ROIs).
One of the best ways to demonstrate that type of attack is through a
disruption of the power supply (usually with NYC as a target).

The problem with this type of presentation is that you don't need
cyberwarfare to do take down the electricity to New York City and get away
with it.  All you need is some household tools, imagination, and some
knowledge of what the network looks like (gained by an effort at mapping the
connections).  Since 99.9999% of the recruits available to most violent
groups don't have cyber skills and the impact of a cyber attack and a
physical attack are the same, which method do you think will be used?  The
facts back this up.  99.99% of the intentional system disruption events that
have occurred over the last decade have been caused through physical attack
and not by cyber attack.

So, in other words, the tens billions we are going to spend on cybersecurity
is mostly a waste of time/money.  It's not only a waste of money, it's yet
another example of how the US national security system is not producing
real, tangible security for the people it expects to pay for it.    The real
solution to network vulnerability?  Decentralized production.  The tech is
available.  If the billions spent on cyber were spent on growing local
production by building resilient communities, it wouldn't only make us safer
it would likely ignite an economic Renaissance.

Unfortunately, to the people running the US/EU, the long term economic
success of the citizens they are supposed to represent is not even on their
priority list.

If you are interested, here's some analysis on how vulnerable the
electricity grid we rely upon is.   An evergreen (in that it always yields
results) target of global guerrillas, will be the large infrastructure
networks that national economies rely upon (as do all modern developed
economies). The most critical and complex network is our power grid which
contains over 1 m kilometers of high-voltage power lines between 115 -765
kVs. The network can be further subdivided into the following:

   1,633 generator nodes.
   2,179 disribution substation nodes.
   10,287 transmission substation nodes.
