Some Reflections on the Arizona Shootings

Some Reflections on the Arizona Shootings
William Anderson

By any stretch, the killing of six people, including a federal judge and a nine-year-old girl, along with the severe wounding of Rep. Gabby Giffords, is an outrage. Unfortunately, the pundits of the media, not to mention some irresponsible and opportunistic people in Congress, have no respect either for the dead or the living.

As I see it, we live in a society that is so hopelessly politicized that whenever something like this happens, intelligent discourse is almost impossible. For example, Paul Krugman, Jane Fonda, and Keith Olbermann have blamed Sarah Palin. Why? Because last year Palin had a blog which had target marks on states where she believed Democratic members of Congress were vulnerable.

Don't you get it? She had a "target," which then drove the shooter to do what he did. Well, given the fact that Jared Lee Loughner, the shooter, was known to be a person of the Left, and he tended to lean toward "luminaries" like Marx and Hitler, I find it a stretch to believe that all along with was Sarah Palin directing his murderous rampage.

Yet, a Nobel Prize winner like Paul Krugman has no problem. Is he engaging in logic that is shaped like a pretzel? Yes, but that's Krugman: always trying to get his hateful, incendiary rhetoric out there while accusing others of engaging in hateful, incendiary rhetoric.

Meanwhile, Radley Balko tries to make sense of the whole thing, but he keeps running into people who seek political advantage. One member of Congress claims that the shootings are proof that he and other lawmakers should not have to go through the same TSA lines that regular travelers must endure.

Balko also notes that governments at all levels in this country kill and abuse innocent people on a regular basis. Those who followed Tonya Craft's trial on this blog know all about how governments abuse innocent people -- and no one in government is held to account for the abuse.

Unfortunately, we are going to have to endure the incendiary rhetoric for a while. That is the price one pays for living in a country that is hopelessly politicized.

Spooky! Jared Lee Loughner is on Rep. Gifford’s YouTube channel

Spooky! Jared Lee Loughner is on Rep. Gifford's YouTube channel
Posted by David Franke on January 10, 2011 03:13 AM

In response to my earlier posting about the attempted assassination of Rep. Gabrielle Gifford, I received this email from a reader (personal name not identified) of this blog:

"It's interesting to note, and I don't yet know the significance, but on the Congresswoman's YouTube page, she subscribed to only two other YouTube channels. One of which belonged to Jared Lee Loughner."

Naturally intrigued, I went to the Congresswoman's YouTube channel and there, at the bottom left of her home page, is a section with the heading, "Subscriptions (2)," with two photo boxes below.

The photo to the right turns out to be former Democratic Congressman Ike Skelton of Missouri, who lost last November to his Republican opponent, Vicky Hartzler.

The photo box to the left is blank (no photo inside), and the caption underneath simply says "Classit…" It is not until you click on the photo box and land on the page that you see it identified as: "Jared Lee Loughner. Classitup10's Channel."

The anonymous nature of the listing on Gifford's home page undoubtedly explains why this has not come to the public's attentionuntil now.

The first video you encounter on Loughner's YouTube page is "Hello," which he describes as "My introduction to the channel!" It was posted on December 15, 2010. In his profile he says he joined YouTube on October 25, 2010 and gives his website as http://Myspace.com/fallenasleep, which is now inoperative.

In the final batch of text on his "Hello" video, Loughner says, "In a few days, you know I'm conscious dressing." This is as incoherent as the rest of his videos, but I can't help but wonder: Is he forecasting his planned assassination? Is that what he refers to as "conscious dressing"?

In light of the subsequent assassination attempt, all of this is downright spooky. What is Loughner's YouTube channel doing on Rep. Gifford's YouTube channel? Did she "subscribe" to his channel, or did someone on her staff do so? Either way, WHY?  Didn't anyone bother to check on what was on his channel, and realize he was a nut job? It also makes me wonder what other contacts there might have been between Loughner and Gifford, or at least her office. And whether we will ever know the truth about that.

Whatever DOMA says is irrelevant.  The Constitution provides
NO Power To Congress To make any such legislation.  In fact,
AIV, Section 1 is contrary.

Let me READ it to you:

Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the
public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every
other State. And the Congress may by general Laws
prescribe the Manner in which such Acts,Records and
Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.

As is plain to see, Congress may, for instance, make a law
requiring pink paper be used for the documentation of the
public act as it is 'transferred' ... but EVERY State MUST
recognize the public acts (ie. marriage), Records and judicial
proceedings of every other State.

There is no Power/Authority or otherwise for the Congress to
"except" some, a few or all.

Congress 'defining' certain public acts is also contrary.  It is
up to each state to make that call ... and for all others to extend
Full Faith and Credit for them.

Them thar is the Constitution.

As to definition for Federal use ONLY it does define the terms (just
use other words you idiot)
"Marriage" and "Spouse".... the law is very exact and has no breathing room.

Every court/jurisdiction/local/district/state/agency or branch has the
right to "Define" terms and their applicability for use within their
domain as long as it is non-conflicting.

The Coming Internet National ID Card

Sunday, January 9, 2011
The Coming Internet National ID Card

President Obama is planning to hand the U.S. Commerce Department authority over a forthcoming cybersecurity effort to create an Internet ID for Americans, a White House official said, according to CBS News TechTalk.

It's [the Commerce Department] "the absolute perfect spot in the U.S. government" to centralize efforts toward creating an "identity ecosystem" for the Internet, White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt said.

The Obama administration is currently drafting what it's calling the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace, which  U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said will be released by the president in the next few months.

CBS goes on, "We are not talking about a national ID card," Locke said at the Stanford event. "We are not talking about a government-controlled system. What we are talking about is enhancing online security and privacy and reducing and perhaps even eliminating the need to memorize a dozen passwords, through creation and use of more trusted digital identities."

Don't believe this for a nanosecond.

According to CBS, Schmidt stressed that anonymity and pseudonymity will remain possible on the internet. "I don't have to get a credential if I don't want to," he said. There's no chance that "a centralized database will emerge," and "we need the private sector to lead the implementation of this," he said.

The anonymity under this program, mark my words, will be the phony "freedom option" that the government now always uses when they want to take away some of your freedoms. It is all part of the 'nudge' philosophy of the White House adviser and evil puppet master, Cass Sunstein.

What they do is 'nudge' you in the direction they want you to go in and offer a phony distasteful alternative. I was among the first to warn about this in relation to TSA body scanning versus the "groping" option. It looks like it's coming to internet ID. It's not clear how they will do it, but the default for most of the internet will be the ID option. The opt-out anonymity option will be difficult and distasteful, that's how government works when Cass Sunstein gets involved. For all practical purposes, internet anonymity will be gone.

Thoughts On The Gifford Shooting

I received the following email from Simon Black this morning. I encourage all to read it.

Date: January 10, 2011
Reporting From: Vina del Mar, Chile

I abhor violence. Non-retaliatory violence is a desperate act of intolerant men who cannot sort out their differences reasonably and peacefully.  Violence is the answer for those who lack the intellectual merit to win a battle of ideas and can only resort to more animalistic behavior to impress their point.

The greater the violence, the more unfortunate the outcome-- major acts of violence result in loss of life, collateral damage, destruction of property, changes in social mood, and more.

Every single day, crazed lunatics claim the lives of innocent people; sometimes it's a premeditated crime, sometimes it's a crime of passion, sometimes it's a complete accident, sometimes it's an act of terror, and sometimes people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time when a 500 pound bomb is dropped over Afghanistan.

Each instance represents a theft upon humanity.

A shooting took place this weekend in Arizona which was devastating, to say the least... but in my mind, no more or less devastating than any other murderous rampage, whether in the United States or anywhere in the world.  Because a US Congresswoman was ostensibly the intended victim, however, it's captured worldwide attention.

Speaker of the House John Boehner summarized many politicians' reactions to Saturday's shooting when he said, "an attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve. Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society."

I'm inclined to believe that acts and threats of violence against -all people- have no place in any free society. The life of a politician is not worth more than the life of the nine year old girl who was shot and later died at the hospital, or the 76-year old man who died on the scene as he was protecting his wife, or of any of the other victims.

I've seen mainstream media reports that portray the apparent shooter as an anti-government subversive whose favorite books include Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto. This makes absolutely no sense-- what kind of anti-government proponent counts Hitler, Marx, and Engels as his favorite authors?

Rather, it's more likely that the shooter was just another loony who owned a firearm and decided to use it. If the victim had been Gabrielle the bus driver instead of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, it would have barely registered a few words at the bottom of the CNN news ticker.

With one of their own victimized, however, I'm concerned that politicians will close ranks, capitalize on the social mood to generate a renewed faith in government, and pass a host of reactionary policies... all after sanitizing their Twitter feeds for any reference to violence, of course.

Perhaps some form of gun control is in the works... though with a Republican controlled Congress, I'd think new legislation targeting suspected 'Anti-American subversives' could be on the table, or something that gives sweeping new powers to government agents and police forces.

In 1946, the 79th Congress of the United States passed public law 601 giving permanent standing to the House Committee on Un-American Activities. This committee was authorized significant powers to investigate 'subversive and un-American propaganda' and assist Congress in 'necessary remedial legislation.'

Ironically, in its efforts to ensure that America was nothing like the Soviet Union, the US government began turning the country into a fascist collective.  Given what may come after the weekend's shooting, I fear we may be returning to a time when it is increasingly dangerous to be a free thinking individual anywhere in the West.

With Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano perched above WalMart shoppers encouraging Americans to spy on each other, I sense the boiling frog may soon be getting a few degrees warmer.

I would suggest that if your ideals and beliefs make you increasingly isolated from your neighbors, maybe it's time to find new neighbors.

Vibrant expat communities are starting to blossom all over the world, and as we routinely discuss, it's possible (and in many cases easier) to live a much freer life and earn a great living by applying your skills overseas.

There are plenty of great options out there... dozens of places where you could feel more alive, more at home, and more at ease; it simply starts with the willingness and courage to take action, start the research, and develop relationships with like-minded people.

Until tomorrow,

Simon Black

Re: Daniel Hernandez, gay 20 Year old intern, may have saved Gabrielle Giffords' life with first aid

Tommy,

Who, besides you, gives a rat's ass if Hernandez is gay?

What does his being gay have to do with the possibility that he saved Gifford's life?

On 1/10/2011 7:02 AM, Tommy News wrote:
Daniel Hernandez, gay 20 Year old intern, may have saved Gabrielle Giffords' life with first aid Daniel Hernandez had been U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' intern for five days when she was shot Saturday outside Tucson. The junior at the University of Arizona was helping check people in at the "Congress on Your Corner" event when he heard gunfire. He was about 30 feet from the congresswoman. When the shots began, he ran toward them. "I don't even know if the gunfire had stopped," he said Saturday night as he kept a vigil at the University Medical Center cafeteria, gathered near a TV watching tributes and getting updates. When the shots began that morning, he saw many people lying on the ground, including a young girl. Some were bleeding. Hernandez said he moved from person to person checking pulses. "First the neck, then the wrist," he said. One man was already dead. Then he saw Giffords. She had fallen and was lying contorted on the sidewalk. She was bleeding. Using his hand, Hernandez applied pressure to the entry wound on her forehead. He pulled her into his lap, holding her upright against him so she wouldn't choke on her own blood. Giffords was conscious, but quiet. Ron Barber, Giffords' district director, was next to her. Hernandez told a bystander how to apply pressure to one of Barber's wounds. Barber told Hernandez, "Make sure you stay with Gabby. Make sure you help Gabby." Hernandez used his hand to apply pressure until someone from inside Safeway brought him clean smocks from the meat department. He used them to apply pressure on the entrance wound, unaware there was an exit wound. He never let go of her. He stayed with Giffords until paramedics arrived. They strapped her to a board and loaded her into an ambulance. Hernandez climbed in with her. On the ride to the hospital, he held her hand. She squeezed his back. When they arrived at the hospital, Hernandez was soaked in blood. His family brought him clean clothes because the FBI took his for evidence. He waited at the hospital while she went into surgery. He needed to tell police what had happened. He overheard people walking by talking about how Giffords had died. He also heard this on NPR. Later, he learned she had lived. "I was ecstatic," he said. "She was one of the people I've looked up to. Knowing she was alive and still fighting was good news. She's definitely a fighter, whether for her own life, or standing up for people in southern Arizona." The fact that Hernandez was nearby and able to react quickly probably saved Giffords' life, said state Rep. Matt Heinz, D-Tucson, and a hospital physician. He talked to Hernandez at the hospital after the shooting. Eight hours after the shooting, Hernandez stood with Giffords' friends and staff and told them what had happened. The tall, strong 20-year-old said, "Of course you're afraid, you just kind of have to do what you can." They hugged and thanked him. Later, he sat with his mom and sisters and told them about his friends and the staffers who had died that day. "You just have to be calm and collected," he said. "You do no good to anyone if you have a breakdown. . . . It was probably not the best idea to run toward the gunshots, but people needed help." Re: NFL Playoff Schedule: Wild Card Week (Keith)

Hey Greg!

I just figured out how to get my laptop to tune into television over here, tonight,  so I didn't get to catch any of the games, other than the one that I saw at the American sports bar here in Cologne on Saturday night.

By the way, I did buy a new laptop before I left to come over here,  a new Toshiba, which is the brand of laptops I have had for the last three laptops.  This one is the top of the line however,  6gb,  the top Intel processors, a built in cam that adjusts automatically to the light, and a lighted keyboard, which is bad!!!

I think it will serve drinks, I just haven't figured out how to make that happen....

By the way, did see all of the highlights of all of the games on CNN International,  (of which I am so totally sick of!!  Talk about biased! Thus the reason that I had to figure out how to tune into American TV on my laptop....That, and to watch the rest of the playoff games!!)  But I did see where Baltimore handed KC their ass!!   I also saw the Pack/Eagles highlights too....Vick screwed up!!

Re: More Evidence that the Arizona Assassin, Jared Loughner, was a Liberal Extremist...he was a 9/11 Truther

Since when does seeking the truth about an historical event make one a Liberal Extremist?

More Evidence that the Arizona Assassin, Jared Loughner, was a Liberal Extremist...he was a 9/11 Truther

The evidence that assassin was on the left of the political spectrum continue to pile up. Friends, political ideology, religious beliefs, favorite books and activities already proved this lunatic was a progressive-liberal. Now comes word that Loughner was anti-Bush and a 9/11 Truther.

Hardly a Palin follower or Tea Party member, wouldn't ya say? It seems Loughner didn't like the way Congresswoman Gifford answered a question back in 2007...before anyone knew Palin and before the Tea Party was formed.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — At an event roughly three years ago, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords took a question from Jared Loughner, the man accused of trying to assassinate her and killing six other people. According to two of his high school friends the question was essentially this: "What is government if words have no meaning?"

Loughner was angry about her response — she read the question and didn't have much to say.

"He was like ... 'What do you think of these people who are working for the government and they can't describe what they do?'" one friend told The Associated Press on Sunday. "He did not like government officials, how they spoke. Like they were just trying to cover up some conspiracy."

Both friends spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they wanted to avoid the publicity surrounding the case. To them, the question was classic Jared: confrontational, nonsensical and obsessed with how words create reality.

The friends' comments paint a picture bolstered by other former classmates and Loughner's own Internet postings: that of a social outcast with nihilistic, almost indecipherable beliefs steeped in mistrust and paranoia.

[...]

Mistrust of government was Loughner's defining conviction, the friends said. He believed the U.S. government was behind 9/11, and worried that governments were maneuvering to create a unified monetary system ("a New World Order currency" one friend said) so that social elites and bureaucrats could control the rest of the world.

Sounds like a Van Jones disciple. Van Jones, President Obama and most of those on the left love to read Marxist/Communist material. Obama even said he sought out Marxist professors in college. Read his book, he said so himself.

On his YouTube page, he listed among his favorite books "Animal Farm" and "Brave New World" — two novels about how authorities control the masses. Other books in the wide-ranging list included "Mein Kampf," ''The Communist Manifesto," ''Peter Pan" and Aesop's Fables.

The Associated Press didn't want to use Adolf Hitler's or Karl Marx's name, since these are the heroes to those on the left who have a fondness for Socialism and Marxism.

Over time, Loughner became increasingly introspective — what one of the friends described as a "nihilistic rut."

An ardent atheist, he began to characterize people as sheep whose free will was being sapped by the government and the monotony of modern life.

"He didn't want people to wake up and do the same thing every day. He wanted more chaos, he wanted less regularity," one friend said.

Sounds like a lefty anarchist to me.

The friends said Loughner told anyone who would listen that the world we see does not exist, that words have no meaning — and that the only way to derive meaning was during sleep. Loughner began obsessing about a practice called lucid dreaming, in which people try to actively control their sleeping world.

Re: GAY RIGHTS

Why would an Executive Order by the President of the United States, which defines the term, "Marriage",  upset you?  Why would you believe that our government defining a word in law, would be unconstitutional?  Clearly, the point, is that we have folks like Tommy who want to change this very definition, against the will of the American people.

If you find that DOMA is "unconstitutional";  then why do you not believe that any federal court who attempts to change the definition of the term "marriage"  is not unconstitutional?

DADT - Dems
DOMA - Dems

Barney Frank has REFUSED to co-sponsor a bill to repeal DOMA.

And dems think they are the champions of gay rights.

NO one has done more to dash them.  NO one!

Re: Prophetic warning from Giffords to Palin

Hello Jay,

Clearly, there is no substance or merit to any of the issues or talking points that the Democratic Party, and all that the Democratic Party embraces, such as Marxism, Socialism,  LilTommy and his militant Homosexual agenda, and in general the whole Anti-American political crew brings forth today, that all you can do is attemnpt to correlate conservatives, their political posters and advertisements along with conservative politicians and pundits, to a crazed lunatic who caused this tragedy?

This is more than sad, it's despicable.  You literally should be ashamed, as should Studio.

As CW posted this morning, this Brit sums it up pretty well:
