Re: A neo-Can goes over the border in attacking Ron Paul

What apparently upsets the Crackpot faction, is this one comment:

Krauthammer is asked which of the contenders for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination he could support.

"Probably everyone except Ron Paul, who is living in the 20s, who thinks we can have a moat around the United States and if we ignore the world, the world will ignore us,"

Pretty much an accurate, logical conclusion based on Dr. Paul's "Kum-bay-Yah/We Are The World, We Are The Children"  comments during the last six or eight debates.   Dr. Paul does not have a good grasp on the dangers that face the United States and its people, or Western Civilization as we know it today.   Neither does PlainOl,  neither does Michael.

Newt Gets Another Big Endorsement

Newt 2012

Newt 2012Today Speaker Gingrich received the coveted endorsement of one of the country's most important conservative publications, the Manchester Union-LeaderThe Manchester Union-Leader was among the first to champion Ronald Reagan and has a history of endorsing eventual New Hampshire primary winners! This is just further evidence that Speaker Gingrich is the conservative frontrunner to be the Republican nominee for President!

From today's front-page editorial:

"America is at a crucial crossroads. It is not going to be enough to merely replace Barack Obama next year. We are in critical need of the innovative, forward-looking strategy and positive leadership that Gingrich has shown he is capable of providing.

"He did so with the Contract with America. He did it in bringing in the first Republican House in 40 years and by forging balanced budgets and even a surplus despite the political challenge of dealing with a Democratic President. A lot of candidates say they're going to improve Washington. Newt Gingrich has actually done that, and in this race he offers the best shot of doing it again."

This campaign is peaking at just the right moment. With bold policy initiatives and a history of conservative leadership, Speaker Gingrich has established himself as the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney. Governor Romney is well funded and has a strong organization that has been built during his nearly 5-year Presidential run. If you are ready for bold policies that go beyond timid tinkering around the edges offered by Governor Romney, then we need you to endorse Newt too! We need to 20,000 people to endorse Newt this week by making financial contribution of any amount to this campaign!

Voting begins right after the holidays and we need your help to get  out the vote in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and beyond! Will you invest in a conservative future by making a generous financial contribution of $25, $50, $100, up to the maximum contribution of $2500?

Thank You,

Michael Krull

RE: **JP** Tsunami of Change

its all about leadership ... Imran khan knows how and when to play the particular card .. so its very early to blame him . He is still way better than nawaz and ppp

Dear Ashfaq Saheb
Apparently it seems that the person behind is Musharraf.
Musharraf wants to come back and he could be scared of Nawaz Sharif.
Musharraf may be playing a game by using Imran Khan, as we see that Imran is mainly talking against Nawaz, particularly in Punjab, as if Nawaz is the main culprit. Imran's speeches are not strong any more at all against what is happening in the country now and also he is quite about what has happened in the Musharraf era.
If Mr Warraich has joined Imran then it could also be a part of Musharraf's plan.

Is it tsunami of change or Musharraf tram repackaged under a new Leader ?

Laws prohibiting hate speech are unconstitutional in the United

state governments are broadly forbidden by the First Amendment of the
Constitution from restricting speech.[51]

Protectionism Crushes Consumer Choice

Posted by  | Posted in Wine Rules | Posted on 04-05-2011

Tom and his husband, Cy, at Gloria Ferrer.

"Considering the geographic proximity, it's simply ridiculous that I can't ship wine to Maryland," reasoned Tom Natan, the owner of Washington DC-based First Vine Wine Imports + Sales, as we sat down over coffeeto discuss the real-life impact of Maryland's anti-consumer wine laws.

Maryland's oenophiles would probably agree. First Vine imports an array of wines from France, Spain, and even Malta. For most of these wines, First Vine is the only importer in the United States. And all the wine is affordable — most bottles range in price from $10 to $35.

Yet consumers in Maryland (and most other states) are legally prohibited from purchasing wine from First Vine and other out-of-state retailers. Such laws stifle consumer choice and keep prices artificially high.

First Vine's story begins about ten years ago. At the time, Tom was a chemical engineer with the National Environmental Trust, and doing lots of international travel as a "roving pollution inventory expert."

On one trip to Mexico, he met an environmental consultant who lived on a vineyard in France. He had always loved wine, so asked for more details – and soon learned that this woman's husband grew grapes in Provence, co-owned the village wine cooperative, led wine tastings for English-speaking tourists, and helped represent a number of small wine producers.

A view from the middle of the ridge in Vinsobres, France, looking south toward Mont Ventoux. Vinsobres is the village First Vine first imported wine from.

Over a few visits to Provence, Tom fell in love the cooperative's wines. They weren't available in the United States, so Tom thought he could start a business importing those wines.

He was right. Washington DC is one of the only places in the country that allows retailers to import wines directly from overseas producers, so in 2007 — after hiring a liquor attorney, securing a few licenses, and paying several fees — Tom jumped in. It's been his full-time job since 2008.

Today, First Vine sells about 50 cases of wine each month.

"We're a virtual business," Tom explained, as he told me about his growing business. "Our retail license is for where we store our wine, but all of it is delivered. Most is purchased on our website, and most of our customers are local."

In Washington DC, First Vine's products aren't that hard to find.

Interested customers can check out the company's blog and/or Facebook page, where Tom alerts people to upcoming events. About twice each month, First Vine's wines are poured at places like Hill's Kitchen, a gourmet kitchenware store, GoodWood, a quirky furniture boutique, or Alliance Française. Tom can't sell at these tastings, but he can direct people to his website. Tom is also the main wine supplier to many large events, as DC law requires caterers to purchase from a retailer. First Vine was also the only retailer at this year's International Wine & Food Festival.

As one might guess, many of the folks who taste these wines – and then inquire about purchasing them – live in Maryland. The Maryland/DC border, after all, is just four miles from where First Vine stores its wine.

But Tom always refuses the opportunity. "A felony conviction just isn't a risk I'm willing to take," he said. Since 1999, it has been a felony for an out-of-state retailer to ship alcoholic beverages to a Maryland consumer, punishable by up to two years in prison. As Tom (understandably) explained, "that's just not a line I'm willing to cross."

Of course, Maryland residents can skirt the law by using a DC office as their delivery address. Many undoubtedly do.

"If lawmakers are so concerned about Maryland residents ordering wine, perhaps the state police should set up stings at the border crossings," Tom joked.

His larger point was convincing, though. Who, exactly, are Maryland lawmakers protecting?

First Vine carries a unique selection of wines not available anywhere else. The wines are affordable, too — because First Vine is an importer and a retailer, there's no distributor taking a cut. Plus, Tom, his husband Cy, and their business partner, Dare Wenzler, are extremely knowledgeable about the wines they carry. So they can help customers find exactly what they're looking for.

Tom with Valérie Chaume-Arnaud, one of the producers in Vinsobres whose wine he imports.

Yet Maryland lawmakers insist on protecting citizens from what Reason magazine writer Jacob Sullum sarcastically described as the "horror of online wine sales."

Many Maryland lawmakers, like House Economic Matters Committee chairman Dereck Davis, maintain that out-of-state retailers like First Vine would threaten the livelihood of local liquor store owners "during the worst economic recession in modern times" if allowed to ship into the state.

In Tom's opinion, this is nonsense.

"I don't pose a threat to any Maryland retailers," Tom argued. "Most liquor shops rely on walk-in business – think of the corner store where people stop on their way home from work to pick up a bottle of wine to have with dinner. I pose no threat to those stores.

"The larger wine shops aren't carrying the same labels I am, because the producers I import can't afford to deal with our country's three-tier system," Tom continued. "It isn't possible for any wine store to carry everything.

"If you have an unserious, unsustainable business that doesn't take customer service seriously, maybe opening up the market to competition will hurt you," Tom admitted. "But those shops probably deserve to go out of business anyway, and will eventually regardless of the law."

And then there are all the ways Maryland could benefit. First Vine does ship to Virginia, collecting both sales and excise taxes for the state. Plus, First Vine had to purchase a $160 "shipper's license" from the state.

"Why doesn't Maryland see this as a revenue generator?" Tom wondered.

The answer, of course, is the power and influence of Maryland's well-heeled special interest groups, who see larger legal and strategic issues at play with the efforts to liberalize Maryland's liquor market. Such protectionist laws, though, are anti-consumer and anti-choice – and must be reformed.

Clemency for Umesh Yadav

  30th November 2011

His Majesty King 'Abdullah Bin 'Abdul 'Aziz Al-Saudi, The Custodian of the two Holy Mosques
Office of His Majesty the King
Royal Court, Riyadh
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Fax: +966 1 403 1185

Your Majesty Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud,

As Salam alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu

Re:  Clemency for Umesh Yadav

I am writing to request that you act urgently to prevent the imminent execution of Umesh Yadav, a Nepali migrant worker convicted of murder and sentenced to death by a Saudi Arabian court.

I am informed that Umesh Yadav, a Nepali migrant worker convicted of murder of a Pakistani citizen Mohammad Latish Wasir, who was accidentally killed by Yadav in 2006.

Your Excellency, Yadav,  who came  from Machijhitakaiya village of Dhanusha district of Nepal , had reached Saudi Arabia five years ago. Less than two months after reaching the kingdom, Yadav unfortunately engaged in a brawl with Wasir. Yadav  is a very poor man , he has a wife, Sanju Devi Yadav, and two sons, Kamalesh and Nitesh, at home. Yadav confirmed that he did not kill Wasir intentionally, it was an accident.

I am informed that the Nepali embassy in Riyadh has also asked the kingdom to put off the execution of the verdict for the time being. I am informed by the Nepali government officials that the Nepali embassy in Riyadh has officially asked the kingdom to not announce the date of execution of the death sentence until it succeeds or fails in persuading the relatives of the victim into granting pardon to Yadav in exchange for blood money.

Your Excellency , I am also informed by the Nepali embassy in Riyadh that they had requested the Pakistani embassy to find out the kin of Wasir and talk them into pardoning Yadav by accepting a certain amount of blood money.

Upon the request of the Nepali embassy, the Riyadh-based Pakistani embassy has already approached the only brother of Mohammad Latish Wasir, who was accidentally killed by Yadav in 2006, for clemency.

"In its preliminary conversations with the brother of the victim, the embassy has found him interested in settling the case by agreeing upon a certain amount of blood money,"   But Wasir´s  who was married and his wife is the  rightful claimant of blood money. Wasir´s wife, now married to someone else, though married to someone else now, she was Wasir´s wife until his death. Therefore, her consent is equally necessary. I am informed that the Pakistani embassy is trying to find her. If she gives her consent, Yadav will not have to die.

Your Excellency, I believe in your justice and mercy, I therefore urge you to use your royal rights to delay Yadav's execution and spare his life. Your intervention will save a human and the reward of which is equivalent to saving the whole of humanity.

I look forward to your response on this urgent matter.

Yours sincerely

,

Gallup Poll: All Ideologies Think Obama Sucks

New post on Scotty Starnes's Blog

Gallup Poll: All Ideologies Think Obama Sucks

by Scotty Starnes

Everyone is disappointed in the failure named Obama. Across the political spectrum, all ideologies think Obama sucks.

Gallup:

Obama's approval rating has decreased among all six partisan/ideology groups Gallup tracks on a regular basis since January, but it has dropped the most -- 10 percentage points, from 40% to 30% -- among pure independents. These are the roughly 14% of national adults who neither identify with one of the two major parties nor indicate a leaning. Obama's approval rating has declined by nearly as much -- eight points -- among moderate/liberal Republicans, from 29% to 21%.

Obama's approval rating has changed the least in 2011 among the two groups on the far left and right of the U.S. political spectrum. Most liberal Democrats and very few conservative Republicans approved of him in January and this remains the case today. Additionally, conservative Democrats' views also showed little change -- likely because their approval was already at a dampened 70% at the start of the year.

Approval among moderate Democrats fell by six points from 81% to 75%.
