No Tommytomtom.... the loser would be Obama that couldn't get a single
vote backing his proposed budget... the winners are the US public.

Re: Golf Joke

A couple love to play golf together, but neither of them have been
playing like they want to lately, and so they decide that it might be
an idea if they took private lessons.

The husband is the first one to have a lesson.

After the instructor sees his swing, he moans loudly, "No no, no,
you're gripping the club way too hard!"

"Well, what should I do?" the man asks.

"You need to hold the club gently," the golf pro replied. "Hold the
club just like you would hold your wife's breast."

So the man takes the advice that the instructor gave him, takes a
swing, and KERPOW! He hits the ball and it flies almost 300 yards
straight up the fairway.

The man is delightd, and goes back to his wife with the good news.

His wife can't wait for her lesson, which just happens to be the very
next day.

The golf pro watches the wife take her swing, and just as before he
says, "No, no, no, you're gripping the club way too hard."

"What can I do?" asks the wife meekly.

"You need to hold the club gently, just like you would hold hold your
husband's willie".

The wife listens very carefully to the instructor's advice, then takes
a swing, and THUMP. The ball goes straight down the fairway, landing
about 15 feet from where she stood.

"That was great," the instructor says with a straight face. "Now, take
the club out of your mouth and swing it like you're supposed to!"

Sanctity of church, state separation

Romney, Santorum, Gingrich and Paul — it sounds like a law firm
instead of the Republican candidates who are still standing. The only
one who, if he went back to his roots may not totally embarrass
moderate Republicans, is Romney and while winning delegates he is
still having a hard time galvanizing support. With Santorum winning
Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana it is clear that the Republican
fight for the nomination will continue to shouts of glee from
Democrats.

Looking at the close polls, it would appear that if Mitt Romney had
run as he did to become governor of Massachusetts (embracing his
record, including healthcare reform) he would have had a chance to
beat Barack Obama. He couldn't win the Republican nomination like that
but then this year neither could Barry Goldwater or Ronald Reagan if
they ran on their records. That is something the Republican Party will
have the next four years to ruminate about.

As Americans, we need to take a long look at how to ensure we are
living up to our Constitution. We are a nation born out of the quest
for religious freedom and the separation of church and state was
recognition of that and the desire not to foist one set of religious
beliefs on everyone.

The Republican candidates are defiling the meaning of religious
freedom. They pretend that many religious institutions are still
supported by the generosity of their believers rather than by money
from the government, which is paid by all of us. Consequently if they
hire outside the religion they can no longer expect that everyone
working for them should be obliged to live within the principles of
the religion that operates the institution.

Republicans exemplified by Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum think they
can turn the world upside down claiming that government is impinging
on religious freedom when it insists that a hospital or school
receiving public money allow its employees access to the healthcare
they would have in every other situation. They conveniently forget we
are a nation where Christians, Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Baptists,
believers and non-believers alike have equal rights under civil law.

There is a wonderful website called Stop the Hate, stop-the-hate.org,
which has words of wisdom from many religions, poets, politicians,
activists and authors. They all speak of loving your fellow man and
woman. It seems Republican candidates have forgotten that and instead
are preaching hate and separatism in the name of religion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Appreciation: Adrienne Rich, 'mother of us all'
One of the roles of government is to protect minorities and ensure
they have the same rights as all others. Our Constitution is a living
document and we have amended it many times over the years, but always
to guarantee rights, never to take them away. Church law and policy,
as in the Catholic Church, has also changed over the years from having
popes who were married with children to requiring them to be single
and celibate. Another example of the flexibility of the Catholic
Church would be welcoming Gingrich who is on his third marriage while
Catholic doctrine doesn't recognize divorce. It is time that we as a
nation reject those who would try to use either the Constitution or
religion to deprive people of their civil and human rights.

While I favor moving forward it would be appropriate to go back to a
time when we adhered to a doctrine that this country stood for:
separation of church and state. John F. Kennedy eloquently stated that
doctrine in a speech he gave in 1960 when he said, "I believe in an
America where the separation of church and state is absolute — where
no Catholic prelate would tell the president (should he be Catholic)
how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for
whom to vote. And where no church or church school is granted any
public funds or political preference and where no man is denied public
office merely because his religion differs from the president who
might appoint him or the people who might elect him. I believe in an
America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish,
where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on
public policy from the pope, the National Council of Churches or any
other ecclesiastical source and where no religious body seeks to
impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or
the public acts of its officials and where religious liberty so
indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act
against all." We elected him because he was willing to state those
views so clearly.

Not only will the next president have a say on how this doctrine is
applied but he will also have the opportunity to appoint Supreme Court
justices who will sit in judgment on the issue for many generations to
come.

Golf Joke

by Steve

A man got on the bus with both of his front trouser pockets full of golfballs
and sat down next to a beautiful--you guessed it--blonde.

The puzzled blonde kept looking at him and his bulging pockets.
Finally, after many glances from her, he said, "It's golf balls."

The blonde continued to look at him for a very long time, thinking deeply about what he had said.
After several minutes, unable to contain her curiosity any longer, she asked,
"Does it hurt as much as tennis elbow?"

10 Common Illegal Alterations Made to Cars

NMA Blog: 10 Common Illegal Alterations Made to Cars

10 Common Illegal Alterations Made to Cars

10 Common Illegal Alterations Made to Cars
Editor's Note: The following article is from Criminal Justice Degrees Guide and has been reprinted here with permission.

It's a fact, we love cars. But we love them even more when they look and sound nice too. If you want to have the sharpest-looking car or meanest-sounding truck on the block, you may have to make some alterations to get these desired results. What many drivers don't know is that some of the coolest and most popular car modifications are actually illegal. The rules and regulations on vehicle alterations tend to vary from state to state, but these 10 illegal alterations are some of the most common ones out there.

1. Window tinting

Dark window tinting is one of the most common illegal alterations made to cars. Every state has different laws regarding window tinting and regulations, including light transmittance and location of tinting. Some states are stricter about tinting the driver's side window and the windshield. For the most part, a light tint is the best way to go and will keep you out of trouble with law enforcement.

2. License plate frames

Customizing license plates and the frames that keep them in place is very popular. It may seem harmless to have a customized frame that advertises a dealership or your favorite sports team, but you can actually get pulled over and ticketed if the frame covers up the state name or numbers in any way. Tinted and reflective-plate covers are also illegal in many states.

3. Exhaust

Adding a performance exhaust to your vehicle can make it more powerful, faster, and louder than before. Drivers who install a new exhaust system may have a noisier and meaner sounding vehicle, but you'll also run the risk of being ticketed if it's too loud and causes any noise complaints.

4. HID headlamps

Drivers who want a customized look for their car might be tempted to get a HID headlamps kit to install, but this popular alteration is illegal in all 50 states. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that no HID headlamps meet the federal photometric standards, so if you install these you may end up with a pricey ticket.

5. Undercarriage lighting

Undercarriage lighting is a popular, but often illegal alteration made to cars. Adding bright neon or LED lights may be illegal in your state, especially if it interferes with the front and rear lighting. Some states have restricted certain colors and color combinations that might cause confusion or distractions on the road.

6. Lifts

Lifting the suspension or frame and body of your vehicle can drastically change the way your car looks and drives. As popular as this alteration is, your state may have a limit on how high you can go. Some states set their height restrictions based on maximum headlight and taillight heights and others measure by maximum bumper heights. Depending on the state you live in or drive through, you could be ticketed for an excessive lift.

7. Muffler delete

Drivers who want to increase the horse power and noise level of their vehicle may consider installing muffler delete pipes. But it's important to know that every state has different laws relating to muffler delete alterations, but for the most part, it's illegal. Most states require all vehicles have a working muffler to prevent excessively loud or unusual noises, but adding a muffler delete or similar device to your vehicle is illegal.

8. Studded tires

Many drivers install studded tires to get better traction on slippery roads during the winter season, but these tires can also destroy pavement. Even though studded tires have been approved by the federal government and received the DOT rating, some states do not allow them on their roads or only at certain times of the year.

9. Off-road lamps

High intensity off-road lamps are very bright and very illegal in some states. These 100-watt (or more) lights are often attached to the grille of trucks or mounted on the roof of vehicles. Off-road lamps might help you find your way through the dark wilderness, but they are completely unnecessary for everyday driving. The range, intensity, and light patterns of these lamps are extremely distracting on the road and can cause danger to oncoming traffic.

10. Cold air intake

This is a common alteration made to mostly muscle cars and four-cylinder import vehicles. Drivers install cold air intake systems for various reasons, but one of the most common is to produce more power from the engine. But this increase in power can result in an increase in fuel consumption and emissions. Your car may seem like it's running better, but if you're exceeding the legal emissions limits, you could be in trouble with the law.

Re: GOP Candidates Ignore the Constitution: Sanctity of church, state separation

We are a nation born out of the quest
for religious freedom and the separation of church and state
---
who told you that?

the british colonies in America were funded and developed for
commercial rather than religious purposes.
the subsequent takeover by Americans was because of taxation ... not
religion.
eventually those wanting to flee europe for religious freedom
immigrated

some don't forget
