Why Did Bachmann and Paul Win in Iowa?

Why Did Bachmann and Paul Win in Iowa?
Saturday, August 13, 2011 - 21:17

The Iowa Straw Poll, like the famed Iowa Caucases, has become increasingly more important in recent years, due to the perception of momentum a good showing there allows the top two or three candidates moving forward.  Since fundraising early on is so crucial to Presidential campaigns, the Iowa Straw Poll has begun to be known as a make or break event this year for several candidates.
For example, Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was catapulted into the national limelight as a top tier Republican candidate following his first place showing in the Iowa Straw Poll four years ago.  Since Iowa is a socially conservative state, the staunchly pro-life candidates usually do well there, though this year no doubt focused on the state of the national economy.

Two members of Congress--Congresswoman Michele Bachman of nearby Minnesota and Congressman Ron Paul of Texas--came out way on top this year in the straw poll, with about 29 and 28 percent respectively. The strength of their showing will give them added credibility and funds for their campaigns.  Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain, and former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty (with a very distant third place finish) look like their campaigns are on life support following the votes of nearly 17,000 Republican activists in the Ames, Iowa contest.

Texas Governor Rick Perry just announced his candidacy for Presidency, so he wasn't involved in this year's straw poll, nor was former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who has yet to announce her intentions.  Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney also made a point to stay out of this year's Iowa Straw Poll.

So why did Iowa Republican activists go for Michelle Bachmann and Ron Paul?

In a word, these two candidates bond with their supporters--a key factor in any long march to the White House.

Congressman Paul's legions of supporters nationally will follow the courtly Texan anywhere.  They see in their man a noble truthteller, who is honest and unbought by the Republican Party establishment in Washington, D.C. or New York City.  In addition, they like Paul's ideas on the economy, which he has been honing for many years now, following the Austrian School of economics.

Ron Paul's economic beliefs mesh well with the times, given his historic aversion to tallying up more national indebtedness.  Paul's believers may rightly believe that the man and his message have finally hit the right time in American history.  They want 2012 to be the year when the establishment's applecart is finally upended.

Interestingly, Congresswoman Michele Bachman's claim to fame recently is that, like Paul, she refused to vote for the debt increase bill the two Houses of Congress finally hammered out with President Obama a couple of weeks ago.  While Bachmann may not have the years of study about America's spending as Paul does, she leaves no doubt that she's serious about stopping runaway spending in D.C.

Bachmann is telegenic, gives a Reaganesque stump speech, both serious and inspirational, invoking patriotism in her remarks about America's troops serving abroad.  But more than most Republican candidates can do, Bachmann also makes interesting connections between her life's story as a child raised by a single mother with many others out there across the country.

Both of these Iowa Straw Poll winners connect better than any other candidates on the GOP side this year.  Paul connects with the voters' head, while Bachmann strikes chords with the voters' heart.  Though Mitt Romney may still be considered the frontrunner by the national media, Bachmann and Paul have just shown that their support is deep.  Bigtime.

If these two catch fire in other states soon, the establishment GOP may be in trouble.  And that's good news for the country.

Re: [hoosiermaster] Life is a Vacay for Queen Michelle

do you know Bwanyboo?

And why do you still think saying your boy Odumbo is just like Bush is a suceessful defense of him?

Are you Obamatard zombies really that stupid?

So far your snappy logic has lost you the House and Wisconsin.  Looks like it is going to lose you the Senate in 2012 and maybe the White House too.

Can you get your head out of Obama's hole and stop chewing those Kenyan dingleberries long enough to figure out some other campaign slogans?

How many vacation days did you have during the past year?  Five, 10, maybe 15? Heck, even 20 days of vacation would be great!

Well, if you're Queen Michelle, the answer would be 42 DAYS.  That is a little more than one out of every nine days, according to a White House Dossier analysis of her travel.

Her vacations, the cost of which are mostly borne by taxpayers, include trips to Panama City, Fla., Martha's Vineyard, Hawaii, South Africa, Latin America, Vail, Colo., and her visit this week to her brother in Corvallis, Ore.

The total does not include a nine-day sojourn in Martha's Vineyard that the Obamas will enjoy this month. Nor does it include a trip she made to Ireland and Great Britain in May, which I'm counting as official travel.

Can't wait for her and her husband to be on permanent vacation in 2012.

ObamaReceivedOccidentialCollegeFundsAsForeignNational

-------------
Occidental College transcripts provides concrete evidence to annul Obama presidency.  June 18th, 2011 http://presscore.ca/2011/?p=2929
Registration transcript states ~ Name: Barry Soetoro - Religion: Islam - Nationality: Indonesian
The smoking gun evidence that annuls Obama's presidency is Obama's college transcripts regarding his application for and receiving of foreign student aid.  Obama's college transcripts from Occidental College indicates that Obama, under the name Barry Soetoro, received financial aid as a foreign student from Indonesia as an undergraduate at the school. The transcript from Occidental College shows that Obama (Barry Soetoro) applied for financial aid and was awarded a fellowship (scholarship) for foreign students from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship program – an international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government.  Grants are available for U.S. citizens to go abroad and for non-U.S. citizens with no U.S. permanent residence to come to the U.S.  To qualify, for the non-US citizen scholarship to study in the U.S., a student applicant must claim and provide proof of foreign citizenship. This document would seem to provide the smoking gun that many of Obama's detractors have been seeking.  The United States Constitution requires that Presidents (and Vice Presidents) of the United States be natural born citizens of the United States.
"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
Obama hasn't met and doesn't meet the basic qualifications for the presidency – must be natural born citizen.
Obama has been named in dozens of civil lawsuits alleging he is not eligible to be president, with many filing a criminal complaint alleging the commander-in-chief is a fraud.
The filed indictments disputes Obama's eligibility to be president under the U.S. Constitution which requires that eligible candidates for the United States presidency be "natural born" citizens.
U.S. soldiers including a general refuse to recognize Obama as their Commander in Chief since he is not a U.S. citizen. The soldiers have challenged Obama's legitimacy by filing federal lawsuits against Obama.
On such soldier was U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook who was given orders to deploy to Afghanistan. Cook refused to deploy stating that he shouldn't have to go because Obama is not a U.S. citizen and therefore not legally President and Commander in Chief.  The military revoked the orders with no reason given.  Speculation is that Obama would rather not see this thing go to court before a judge!
"In the 20-page document — filed with the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia — the California-based Taitz asks the court to consider granting his client's request based upon Cook's belief that Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces," the Ledger-Enquirer reported.
Cook "would be acting in violation of international law by engaging in military actions outside the United States under this President's command. … simultaneously subjecting himself to possible prosecution as a war criminal by the faithful execution of these duties," Taitz stated.
Obama says he was born in Hawaii in 1961, just two years after it became a state.
There are many lawsuits and claims that Barack Obama was never eligible to be president because he wasn't born in the United States. And there is credible evidence that suggests he is not legally eligible to serve as President of the United States.
Newspaper print of LA Times - Occidental recalls 'Barry' Obama
Numerous official government documents records Obama being legally registered as Barry Soetoro. School registries shows the registration of Barack Obama under the name Barry Soetoro. During his Occidental College days he is registered as Barry Soetoro. An entry in the journal of the California assembly in reference to grants given to foreign exchange students (this official government document lists Obama as a foreigner not a US citizen. A US citizen wouldn't qualify for foreign exchange student funding) states Obama as Barry Soetoro from Indonesia.
The first name of a child is always the same from birth. If throughout his childhood Obama went by the first name of Barry then legally his birth name would have to be Barry. In order to register any child for school an official birth certificate must be presented. To receive a government grant proof of citizenship and birth must also be submitted. All of the evidence is stating that Barack Obama's legal first name is Barry not Barrack.
A biography of Obama's Occidental College days states that when Obama was 18-19 he attended school as BARRY SOETORO. And it wasn't until he met a girl by the name of Regina that Obama started using the name Barack.  Regina was the first to start calling him Barack.  There seems to be no record of Obama legally changing his first name from Barry to Barack.
While being sworn in as an attorney in the State of Illinois, Mr Obama had to provide his personal information under oath. He was asked, if he had any other names, he responded none. In reality, he used the name Barry Soetoro in an entry in the journal of the California assembly in reference to grants given to foreign exchange students. Mr. Soetoro/Obama clearly defrauded the State Bar of Illinois and perjured himself while concealing his identity. Anybody else would've been disbarred for this and the matter would've been forwarded to the district attorney for prosecution for perjury and fraud, however nothing was done to Mr. Obama. More importantly, why did he conceal his identity?
If Obama didn't legally have his name changed from Barry to Barack then the birth certificate he passed to Congress is a fake, a forgery.  If his name was registered as Barry Soetoro even though Obama claims his real name is Barack Obama then Obama defrauded the state of California in order to receive college funding.  Obama knowingly presented a false document to the state wherein he claimed to be a foreign student in order to illegally acquire financial aid... clip..

Fwd: [New post] Another great idea from Skippy...

Another great idea from Skippy...

Think: what else can I do to ruin the USA?

Does Obama sit around thinking of how he can destroy our country even more? That's a rhetorical question. Now comes another brilliant idea from this administration:

Now Obama Wants to Force Farmers to Get Commercial Drivers Licenses

Via Gateway Pundit: A new rule being proposed by the federal Department of Transportation would require farmers to get commercial drivers licenses.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration wants to adopt standards that would reclassify all farm vehicles and implements as Commercial Motor Vehicles, officials said. Likewise, the proposal, if adopted, would require all farmers and everyone on the farm who operates any of the equipment to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL), they added.

The proposed rule change would mean that anyone who drives a tractor or operates any piece of motorized farming equipment would be required to pass the same tests and complete the same detailed forms and logs required of semi-tractor trailer drivers.

Drivers would keep logs of information including hours worked and miles traveled. Vehicles would be required to display DOT numbers. A CDL in Virginia costs $64 for eight years, or $8 per year, not including the cost of an instructional class and the written test.

If the DOT reclassifies farm vehicles and implements as commercial vehicles, the federal government will have regulatory control over the nation's farm workers, estimated at over 800,000, by requiring them to have commercial drivers licenses.

That possibility worries county farmers and others in Halifax County interested in agriculture. "I have a CDL, but very few farmers have one," said Nathalie farmer Ronnie Waller. "This is just another bureaucratic hurdle for the farmer. It's hard enough fighting Mother Nature, insects and all…now we have to fight the federal government," he added. "We're getting more rammed down our throats, and I could see repercussions across the nation. This move is another inane gesture in my opinion," Waller concluded.

More control of people and more taxes.  And you know they eventually will want to control their emissions as well.  We know one thing for sure about Skippy, if an idea comes out of this administration, it's going to be bad for our country.

Did you really expect anything different? From London to Philadelphia to Milwaukee, goons are rioting in the streets. And guess what? I don't believe it is the fundamental fault of the goon squads that they're rioting, although there's no excuse for beating people and destroying property.

Societies, especially America's, have created a shattered social system in which lawlessness and irresponsibility are excused by boneheaded liberals because they don't think government has provided enough for these supposedly disadvantaged and downtrodden people.

The shiftless, looting goons and their liberal allies think rich people should be taxed more, and more economic advantages must be provided to largely uneducated, unskilled, lazy, incompetent goons. Eat the rich, my foot.

The problem, of course, is the exact opposite. For decades, government has provided too many programs, too many checks, too many safety nets, too many handouts and too many taxpayer-provided gimmes. The goons literally expect a handout instead of a hand up.

Now that governments have become broke because of any number of grossly expensive and tremendously inefficient social-welfare experiments gone awry, once-vibrant economies such as the United States are slowing down thanks to the self-imposed heavy hand of debt, tax systems that punish producers, and borrowing and spending gone mad.

Jobs have evaporated even for skilled, talented and motivated Americans. There are no jobs for goons unless you think robbing, plundering and peddling dope are resume builders.

So now the goons are taking to the streets and creating mayhem in the name of social justice and whatnot.

If the goons had an ounce of brains among them, they would come to the conclusion that the reason they are dumb, unskilled mouth-breathers unprepared for the future is because of bloated, runaway government, not because there has been too little of it or that the rich do not pay enough in taxes.

These idiots are useful political pawns for the very political punks who have manipulated these morons into believing that Uncle Sham is their sugar daddy instead of what Uncle Sham really is - a political-street-corner dope-pusher, a community organizer who has gotten them strung out on the most powerful drug of all: dependency.

Extinct among these goons is any sense of what once made America great. Gone are the independent, strong-willed, pull-yourself-up-by-your-own-bootstraps people who thought the basic role of the federal government was simply to protect them from invasion by another country.

Now we are a nation of wussies and stupid goons who have suckled on the teat of Aunt Sugar Momma for so long that many Americans know nothing different. When the teat runs dry, gangland rioting follows. Kicking the habit of dependency is an obviously painful process.

Americans need to ask their politicians one simple, fundamental question: What is the role of government?

Those political punks who give some glib answer about providing for the good of the people have given rise to the rioting goon squads. Vote every one of these modern-day slave masters out of office.

Support and vote for politicians who champion much less government and much more personal responsibility. It is those politicians who ultimately will liberate people instead of stringing them out on the dope of soulless dependency.

Peter Oborne is the Daily Telegraph's chief political commentator.

The moral decay of our society is as bad at the top as the bottom

David Cameron, Ed Miliband and the entire British political class came together yesterday to denounce the rioters. They were of course right to say that the actions of these looters, arsonists and muggers were abhorrent and criminal, and that the police should be given more support.

But there was also something very phony and hypocritical about all the shock and outrage expressed in parliament. MPs spoke about the week’s dreadful events as if they were nothing to do with them.

I cannot accept that this is the case. Indeed, I believe that the criminality in our streets cannot be dissociated from the moral disintegration in the highest ranks of modern British society. The last two decades have seen a terrifying decline in standards among the British governing elite. It has become acceptable for our politicians to lie and to cheat. An almost universal culture of selfishness and greed has grown up.

It is not just the feral youth of Tottenham who have forgotten they have duties as well as rights. So have the feral rich of Chelsea and Kensington. A few years ago, my wife and I went to a dinner party in a large house in west London. A security guard prowled along the street outside, and there was much talk of the “north-south divide”, which I took literally for a while until I realised that my hosts were facetiously referring to the difference between those who lived north and south of Kensington High Street.

Most of the people in this very expensive street were every bit as deracinated and cut off from the rest of Britain as the young, unemployed men and women who have caused such terrible damage over the last few days. For them, the repellent Financial Times magazine How to Spend It is a bible. I’d guess that few of them bother to pay British tax if they can avoid it, and that fewer still feel the sense of obligation to society that only a few decades ago came naturally to the wealthy and better off.
Yet we celebrate people who live empty lives like this. A few weeks ago, I noticed an item in a newspaper saying that the business tycoon Sir Richard Branson was thinking of moving his headquarters to Switzerland. This move was represented as a potential blow to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, because it meant less tax revenue.

I couldn’t help thinking that in a sane and decent world such a move would be a blow to Sir Richard, not the Chancellor. People would note that a prominent and wealthy businessman was avoiding British tax and think less of him. Instead, he has a knighthood and is widely feted. The same is true of the brilliant retailer Sir Philip Green. Sir Philip’s businesses could never survive but for Britain’s famous social and political stability, our transport system to shift his goods and our schools to educate his workers.

Yet Sir Philip, who a few years ago sent an extraordinary £1 billion dividend offshore, seems to have little intention of paying for much of this. Why does nobody get angry or hold him culpable? I know that he employs expensive tax lawyers and that everything he does is legal, but he surely faces ethical and moral questions just as much as does a young thug who breaks into one of Sir Philip’s shops and steals from it?

Our politicians – standing sanctimoniously on their hind legs in the Commons yesterday – are just as bad. They have shown themselves prepared to ignore common decency and, in some cases, to break the law. David Cameron is happy to have some of the worst offenders in his Cabinet. Take the example of Francis Maude, who is charged with tackling public sector waste – which trade unions say is a euphemism for waging war on low‑paid workers. Yet Mr Maude made tens of thousands of pounds by breaching the spirit, though not the law, surrounding MPs’ allowances.

A great deal has been made over the past few days of the greed of the rioters for consumer goods, not least by Rotherham MP Denis MacShane who accurately remarked, “What the looters wanted was for a few minutes to enter the world of Sloane Street consumption.” This from a man who notoriously claimed £5,900 for eight laptops. Of course, as an MP he obtained these laptops legally through his expenses.

Yesterday, the veteran Labour MP Gerald Kaufman asked the Prime Minister to consider how these rioters can be “reclaimed” by society. Yes, this is indeed the same Gerald Kaufman who submitted a claim for three months’ expenses totalling £14,301.60, which included £8,865 for a Bang & Olufsen television.
Or take the Salford MP Hazel Blears, who has been loudly calling for draconian action against the looters. I find it very hard to make any kind of ethical distinction between Blears’s expense cheating and tax avoidance, and the straight robbery carried out by the looters.

The Prime Minister showed no sign that he understood that something stank about yesterday’s Commons debate. He spoke of morality, but only as something which applies to the very poor: “We will restore a stronger sense of morality and responsibility – in every town, in every street and in every estate.” He appeared not to grasp that this should apply to the rich and powerful as well.

The tragic truth is that Mr Cameron is himself guilty of failing this test. It is scarcely six weeks since he jauntily turned up at the News International summer party, even though the media group was at the time subject to not one but two police investigations. Even more notoriously, he awarded a senior Downing Street job to the former News of the World editor Andy Coulson, even though he knew at the time that Coulson had resigned after criminal acts were committed under his editorship. The Prime Minister excused his wretched judgment by proclaiming that “everybody deserves a second chance”. It was very telling yesterday that he did not talk of second chances as he pledged exemplary punishment for the rioters and looters.

These double standards from Downing Street are symptomatic of widespread double standards at the very top of our society. It should be stressed that most people (including, I know, Telegraph readers) continue to believe in honesty, decency, hard work, and putting back into society at least as much as they take out.
But there are those who do not. Certainly, the so-called feral youth seem oblivious to decency and morality. But so are the venal rich and powerful – too many of our bankers, footballers, wealthy businessmen and politicians.

Of course, most of them are smart and wealthy enough to make sure that they obey the law. That cannot be said of the sad young men and women, without hope or aspiration, who have caused such mayhem and chaos over the past few days. But the rioters have this defence: they are just following the example set by senior and respected figures in society. Let’s bear in mind that many of the youths in our inner cities have never been trained in decent values. All they have ever known is barbarism. Our politicians and bankers, in sharp contrast, tend to have been to good schools and universities and to have been given every opportunity in life.
Something has gone horribly wrong in Britain. If we are ever to confront the problems which have been exposed in the past week, it is essential to bear in mind that they do not only exist in inner-city housing estates.

The culture of greed and impunity we are witnessing on our TV screens stretches right up into corporate boardrooms and the Cabinet. It embraces the police and large parts of our media. It is not just its damaged youth, but Britain itself that needs a moral reformation.
