Video evidence of Muslim crucifixion in Yemen

by Dr. Eowyn

On August, 2012, I did a post on a WND report that the radical Muslim group Muslim Brotherhood (MB) executing Christians and opponents of Egypt's new MB president, Muhammad Morsi, by crucifying them to death.

Immediately after I published that post, comments appeared on FOTM dismissing the WND report -- the sources of which were Arabic TV and print sources from the Middle East! -- and hinting that the Jews (Israel) concocted the story. The skeptics demanded to see visual evidence of photos or videos of the crucifixion.

Well, we now have the visual evidence, from Yemen. WARNING: It's graphic.

Michael Carl reports for WND, Aug. 29, 2012:

There's shocking new evidence from the Middle East of crucifixion by Muslims, this time of a "spy" in Yemen who allegedly was accused of U.S. sympathies.

WND recently confirmed a Sky News Arabia report of the crucifixion of dissidents in Egypt.

According to a report by Lebanon Today translated into English, the Yemeni jihadist group Ansar al-Shariah took control of the Azzan area of Yemen and imposed Islamic law, or Shariah. In the process, the group crucified three men, accusing them of being agents for the U.S. The executions reportedly took place several months ago.

Former PLO operative turned terrorism analyst Walid Shoebat says the inscription in the photo of one of the victims reads, "He was crucified for three days in accordance to Shariah." Shoebat says Lebanon Today reported the group carried out the Shariah-prescribed penalties, explaining the multiple executions were retribution for passing information to U.S. forces to carry out attacks by pilot-less drones.

According to Shoebat's translation, the report said:

"One they nicknamed 'Captain' was executed by crucifixion for three days at the entrance to the city of Jaar in the Abyan province, to be viewed by passersby entering and leaving the city. Two Saudis and a Yemeni were also executed by the sword at dawn at the hands of Ansar al-Shariah, and [the terrorists] absolved [a] fourth defendant from execution for his young age. A leader in Ansar al-Islam claimed that these who were executed belong to the province of Marib, [and were executied] for planting trackers on cars that belong to al-Qaida leaders to be targeted by the drones."

According to Shoebat, the article said an analyst in the region claimed the crucifixions are "something new." The report said:

"One researcher, Saeed Obaid Elaf, said that, 'The incidents of these executions never occurred previously in Yemen but follows the sequence of events which occurred previously in Afghanistan and Iraq [where] … Islam is the religion of the state. In Iraq these [terrorists] see Iraq as the Islamic State of Iraq. 'In Afghanistan, the ones who receive this type of executions are those who are considered spies. But in Yemen this is the first time we have seen such phenomenon, which has become a natural thing now because al-Qaida now exercises the powers of the state and it's natural that it carries out such executions."

Besides the image of the Yemeni brutality (see below), video has been posted online of the punishment.

The caption to the video explained it was a "spy who was executed by extremists for placing sensors in militant's cars to direct U.S. attacks on them. This occurred during the recent Yemeni revolution to oust the long serving president, when extremists took advantage of the lapse in security as the former president diverted his attention to fighting the revolution instead of extremists."

Shoebat said his sources confirmed there had been eight executions about the same time, including three by crucifixion and another five by beheading.

Read the rest of Michael Carl's article here.

Here's the video (WARNING: The images in the video are extremely graphic. View with caution.):

If YouTube removes the video, go to the WND article to watch the video. Here are three screen shots I took from the video:

**JP** Letter to Editor- Care Taker PM

Dear Join Pakistan

LETTER TO EDITOR

August 30th, 2012

Care Taker PM

Kindly allow me to reproduce my following Letter to Editor written on 13 November  2007, the contents of which are very much applicable even today after 5 years:

QUOTE

The mere fact that we have to have a care taker government to conduct the polls speaks volumes about our national character and proves that we as a nation are not prepared to trust our fellow politicians ?  It is taken for granted that the incumbent government in power shall rig the polls to its own advantage and, therefore, it must be replaced by a ‘neutral’ government. Now, the comical irony  is that every political party seems to have its own standards of neutrality for the person to head the care taker government. Different political parties have different people measuring up to their own specific standards. There are neutrals, more neutrals, less neutrals and not-neutrals depending upon their standing with a particular party. BB was reported  to nominate  Makhdoom Fahim as her most neutral and suitable person for the care taker Prime Minister-ship !! Ch. Shujaat Sahib has reportedly assumed the role of the Chief Examiner to scrut inise the credentials of the neutral aspirants for the job – of course according to his own standards of neutrality. In short the search is on to have an impartial and neutral care taker PM because all those belonging to ANY political party are assumed to be not trustworthy.  What a shame we can’t find ONE honest, impartial, man of integrity from among the politicians who could enjoy the confidence and trust of the rest of the politicians to head the care taker government?

Viva la democracy!

Boehner: No One Reads GOP Platform

"For example, every GOP platform since 1980 has called for the passage of a human life amendment to the Constitution and the restriction of taxpayer funding of abortion. Yet no such amendment has ever come close to passing Congress in the last 32 years; and Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, continues to receive generous federal subsidies, including $2.5 billion during the presidency of "pro-life" Republican George W. Bush, six years of which coincided with GOP control of one or both houses of Congress.
"As early as 1996, Republicans urged the "elimination of the Departments of Commerce, Housing and Urban Development, Education, and Energy, and the elimination, defunding or privatization of agencies" such as "the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and the Legal Services Corporation." Again, despite GOP majorities in Congress and eight years of the Bush administration, every one of those departments and agencies remains in existence -- and with a larger budget."

Boehner: No One Reads GOP Platform
Written by  Michael Tennant

Amid all the cheers and jeers for the 2012 Republican Party platform, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) let slip the truth about that document: He hasn't read it, and he doesn't know anyone who's ever read it or any other platform.

At a Christian Science Monitor breakfast August 27, Human Events' John Gizzi asked Boehner about his comfort level with the recently drafted GOP platform.

"The Republican platform is circulating about in different copies, online, in print," said Gizzi. "Based on the reports you've seen, is this a good document to run on fully, and in particular, the parts about auditing the Federal Reserve, number one, and the review of government agencies as to their efficiency without calling for shutting them down. Are those things you feel that Republican House members can run on comfortably?"

Boehner's response: "Well, I have not seen the platform, but from every indication that I've heard I don't see any major changes in this platform from what we have had in the past. And if it were up to me I would have the platform on one sheet of paper. Have you ever met anybody who read the party platform? I've not met ever anybody."

This, to use Michael Kinsley's definition of the word, is a gaffe: when a politician inadvertently speaks the truth. For all the haggling over the details of the Republican platform CNSNews.com writes that "some activists work for months just to win the right to attend the convention" and influence the platform the fact is that no one of any consequence in the party reads, much less adheres to, the party's statement of principles. It exists to convince the grassroots that the party leadership is listening to their concerns and intends to use them as a guide for formulating policy. In practice, however, it is largely ignored.

For example, every GOP platform since 1980 has called for the passage of a human life amendment to the Constitution and the restriction of taxpayer funding of abortion.

As early as 1996, Republicans urged the "elimination of the Departments of Commerce, Housing and Urban Development, Education, and Energy, and the elimination, defunding or privatization of agencies" such as "the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and the Legal Services Corporation." Again, despite GOP majorities in Congress and eight years of the Bush administration, every one of those departments and agencies remains in existence and with a larger budget.

This is not to say that elected officials never do what their platforms say they will do. The 2000 Republican platform called for passage of the American Dream Downpayment Assistance Act, and Bush and his fellow Republicans in Congress made it a reality three years later, helping to set the stage for the housing crisis one instance in which ignoring the platform would have been a good idea.

Nevertheless, Republican voters ought not be deluded into thinking that the high-flown statements of principle in the platform will have any real bearing on the policies of a Romney administration or a Republican Congress. Nods to auditing the Fed and considering a gold-based currency are clearly intended to attract disaffected Ron Paul supporters, whose concerns will most likely be discarded the moment the polls close on Election Day. (Witness the chicanery by party elites to prevent Paul delegates even from being seated at the convention and to head off any future challenges to the party establishment.) The platform, in short, is for show. As Boehner said, no one in Washington ever reads it, let alone uses it as a guide to policy.

One more thing: Boehner, as mentioned above, suggested that the platform ought to consist of a single page. "I was on this kick about, oh, I don't know, at least 8 or 12 year ago," he told Gizzi. If the platform were just one page long, he argued, Americans "might be willing to read it." But as CNSNews.com points out, "the 48-page 'A Pledge to America' that [Boehner] and other House Republican leaders released before the 2010 election, included an introduction that all by itself was two pages long."

The house speaker, it seems, pays about as much attention to his own pronouncements as he does to the party platform.

Can Rand Paul Deliver the Paul Voters?

"Long time readers know my prediction that Obama will win reelection. The GOP may have handed him reelection by having alienated the Ron Paul supporters, many of whom have already packed up & left Tampa. Do they have any realistic options? They can write in Ron Paul's name. Their votes won't be counted. They can vote "third party." An exercise in futility. They can stay home on Election Day. Or they can hold their noses & vote for Mitt Romney, which Rand Paul is encouraging them to do. The working assumption seems reasonable, Obama being the worst & potentially the most dangerous U.S. president of our lifetimes. But those who are thinking Romney presages a change in direction for the U.S. are almost assuredly deluding themselves. His candidacy has been premised on support for the bankster agenda (his leading campaign contributor being Goldman Sachs who was also Obama's leading campaign contributor). Unquestionably over the next two months we will see a major mainstream media effort to highlight the "differences" between Obama & Romney, & then, even if I am wrong & Romney wins, we will see more of same old same-old: foreign wars of aggression, expanded domestic police state, mass illiteracy, & devaluation of the dollar. Remember: you read it here first. Has Romney said a word about curtailing the power of Homeland Security, for example, or at least reining in the TSA; has he promised to protect U.S. borders; has he said anything about ending job-destroying (elite-sponsored) trade agreements; has he promised to close down a single federal bureaucracy (e.g.: the U.S. Dept. of Education)?" -- Steven Yates

CAN RAND PAUL DELIVER THE PAUL VOTERS?
By J.B. Williams
August 30, 2012

As father Ron Paul prepares to retire, leaving behind a political career that spans nearly forty-years and passing the libertarian torch to son Senator Rand Paul, can Rand fill Dad's shoes? As Rand attempts to deliver the libertarian vote for Romney-Ryan in 2012, will his father's biggest fans follow Rand's lead?

Ron Paul prepared a video statement that will open the GOP show on the evening that Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan will accept his nomination. Paul's son, Rand Paul, will follow with a live speech in Tampa, following on his endorsement of Mitt Romney for President, only hours after his father's biggest fans walked out of the convention in protest.

Ron Paul was one of several declared candidates hoping to force a brokered convention in Tampa. But when Romney officially secured 90.16% of the GOP delegates (2,061 of 2,286) ending all speculation about a floor fight for the GOP nod, Paul supporters reached the peak of their frustration. New GOP delegate rules provided a final blow to those who had hoped to wrangle delegates away from Romney on the convention floor.

In the end, Ron Paul received 8.27% of the GOP delegates, 189. Although his supporters believe Ron could have blocked the Romney nomination without the new GOP rules change, the truth is Ron Paul has been stuck at or below 10% support within the GOP for decades. Nobody can win anything with only 10% support.

Ron Paul has one of the most loyal followings in modern politics. He has had an impact by forcing subjects onto the table and GOP platform that would not be there without him. However, his all-or-nothing supporters have demonstrated a firm "our way or no way" election attitude for many years now, bordering on venomous in their assaults on all other political figures. This is a very dangerous play for both their agenda and the nation.

At a time when the nation is unifying to remove the most dangerous administration in U.S. history from power, can Rand Paul convince his father's angry followers to become a grown-up productive part of solutions for America? Or, will he lose them to ideological bickering, backstabbing and protest votes in November?

The stakes are high for Romney-Ryan and Rand Paul. The stakes have never been higher for
America. Ron Paul supporters have some options and they have been talking about those options for months now.

Write in Ron Paul's name in protest
Vote 3rd Party in protest
Stay home on election day in protest
Vote for Obama in protest

Of course, all of these protest options will end with the same result, the re-election of the worst administration in U.S. history. It's not possible to say you oppose these Marxists while at the same time, doing things to keep the Marxists in power. Someone is lying…

Rand Paul will try to get his father's supporters to leave all of these protest options behind, and bring them into the mainstream where their ideas and votes can have some impact. Does he have the political clout to pull it off?

Ron and Rand both realized that they could not affect anything from the outside looking in with a critical eye. They both realized that they had to be in the game to affect the game. Many Rand Paul supporters realized the same thing when they chose to make Rand a Senator. Nobody would even know Ron Paul's name had he not left behind 3rd Party fantasies and joined the Republican Party in order to become a member of congress.

Still, many Ron Paul supporters continue to demonstrate an "our way or no way" attitude that could leave them sitting on the sidelines complaining about Barack Obama and his Marxist march to Globalization.

The deal is now sealed. Only one candidate will have a chance to remove Barack Obama from office and that candidate is Mitt Romney. How we feel about that doesn't matter. What we do about it will decide the future of freedom and liberty in America.

So long as the Obama Crime Syndicate controls D.C., freedom and liberty are dead in America and all over the globe. The future of freedom and liberty depends first and foremost, upon removing the current Marxist regime from power.

Rand Paul will try to convince his father's followers to support Romney and Ryan in their historic effort to remove anti-American Marxists from the people's Executive branch. Paul supporters have a chance to play a significant role in that effort. Or, they can take their football and go home in anger, leaving freedom and liberty in the hands of the most corrupt and tyrannical regime to ever hold power in the United States.

Paul supporters can become a force to be reckoned with inside politics, or they can sit on the sidelines and cast stones at everyone else. Millions will listen as Rand Paul tries to bring libertarians into the fold and millions will watch how Paul supporters respond to his call for unity.

But at the end of the day, those who believe in freedom and liberty could never leave our future in the hands of known anti-American despots.

There is no doubt in my mind that both Ron and Rand Paul will vote for Romney-Ryan on November 6th.

But the jury is still out on what Paul supporters will do. Ron Paul is riding off into the sunset and Rand is trying to become a person of influence in D.C. But can Rand even influence his father's followers? If Rand can't influence his own libertarians, who can he influence?

Re: GOP Heads Off a Ron Paul Nomination at Tampa

<snip>
Hopefully, this will end the movement's false hope that you can take over or reform the Republican party. Even if we did, the media and key politicians would suddenly claim the Republican Party was "captured by extremists"and move to form a new party which they would instantly grant majority status. That's what they did in Israel when they formed Kadima.

And even if it were possible to finally expose the conspiracy which controls both parties, they would reform and create new parties with new names and fresh faces, but controlled by the same people. That's what they did in Italy in 1994 when all the major parties were exposed for corruption. Fighting secret combinations of power in government is extremely difficult once they have gained control of a majority in Congress, the courts, and the media, not to mention the secret organs of enforcement in the police state.

GOP Heads Off a Ron Paul Nomination at Tampa

GOP Heads Off a Ron Paul Nomination at Tampa
by Joel Skousen

Even though it might have been a symbolic gesture, the delegates behind Ron Paul were intending to at least get Rep. Paul nominated at the convention. It would give a great boost to the grand liberty movement Dr. Paul has built for the last 20 years and the rebellion against establishment control of the GOP. They only needed delegate majorities from 5 states to nominate the good doctor and to keep Romney from going uncontested before the convention. But alas, the illegal maneuvers of the RNC have robbed the movement of their last show before the cameras, and contrary to assurances by an "insider" within the RNC, Ron Paul will get no speaking slot.

James Hohmann of Politico.com has a summary of the GOP movement to stop Paul. "The Republican establishment has quelled the Ron Paul Revolution, at least for 2012. Using... procedural hardball, Mitt Romney's campaign and his allies who control the Republican National Committee [actually, Romney controls no one at the RNC. It is run by a cadre of hardcore globlists. They are only allied with Romney because he got to the nomination despite their attempts to derail him. Their control over his advisors is total and complete] have ensured that the Texas congressman will neither speak nor be formally nominated at next week's convention.

"The 168-member Republican National Committee approved a report Thursday by the Romney-friendly "committee on contests"that invalidated Paul delegates elected in Maine based on irregularities at the state convention [actually, the irregularities were on the part of the establishment leaders trying to change the rules to halt Ron Paul from winning a majority of delegates at the convention]. The RNC [arbitrarily, and without basis in any rule] voted to split the at-large delegation in half, effectively depriving Paul of control."

Justin Raimondo added other details. "The Republican party Establishment is eager to crush any public expressions of dissent – both inside and outside the convention hall. Ron Paul's supporters in the GOP learned that the hard way, as the Romneyites used their control of the party bureaucracy at the state and national levels [actually it wasn't Romneyites, but the old guard elite inside the GOP that have always controlled things at the top] to retroactively change the rules in order to unseat duly elected Paul delegates.

"In Maine, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Oregon, Oklahoma, and elsewhere, the party bosses have disenfranchised Paul voters – closing down party caucuses, rejecting as delegates anyone under 50, and calling the cops when all else failed. And while Ryder's rule change failed [changing the number of states to nominate a person from 5 to 10] – thanks to RRNC'er Morton Blackwell – the Romney people did sneak in an amendment that would require delegates to state in writing who they intend to vote for on the convention floor at least one hour before the vote [and the vote is being moved up to Monday because of the coming storm that might force the cancellation of the convention]

The Triumph of the Reich-Publican Party

The Triumph of the Reich-Publican Party
William N. Grigg

"There's nothing American about what just happened," protested Nevada Republican delegate Wiselot Rouzard after the convention refused to seat the delegation from Maine. "This is the death of the Republican Party."

What Wiselot and fellow Ron Paul delegates had experienced was a memorable display of the Republican Party's fetid essence. The tactics employed by the GOP establishment to isolate, intimidate, and ultimately to expel Ron Paul delegates were the natural product of the party's totalitarian genetics. By using criminal means to impose a monolithic, top-down process in which an entrenched oligarchy can re-write the rules to suit its whims, the Republican Party was simply living down to its odious pedigree.

From its inception, the Republican Party has been devoted to a doctrine properly called national socialism -- the fusion of politically favored corporate interests with national bank and an all-powerful, militaristic central government. This is why Dr. Paul's noble attempt to cultivate a liberty movement within the GOP was ultimately as futile as seeking to create life in a test tube.

As Dr. Thomas DiLorenzo documents in his slender but potent volume Lincoln Unmasked, a century and a half before the lamentable advent of Barack Obama "The Party of Lincoln set out to fundamentally transform the American government from a decentralized confederacy of sovereign states to a consolidated, monolithic empire." The mission of the GOP, in a single phrase, was to supplant the republic with a reich.

The party's objectives were described with admirable clarity by Ohio Senator John Sherman -- brother to the infamous mass murderer Gen. William T. Sherman, who after putting Atlanta to the torch pursued an exterminationist "final solution" to the problem of the Plains Indians on behalf of the corporatist railroad combine. The Republican Party, Sherman proclaimed, sought "to nationalize as much as possible, even the currency, so as to make men love their country before their states. All private interests of individuals, all local interests, all banking interests, the interests of individuals -- everything -- should be subordinate now to the interest of the Government."

Mussolini would later digest that formula into a single pithy prescription: Everything within the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State.

Dr. Paul and the movement he inspired have agitated for an end to everything the Republican Party cherishes -- central banking, fiat money, centralization of power in the executive, militarism, crony capitalism, government regimentation of private life in the name of "morality." Thus it's hardly a surprise that the RNC and its epigones treated the Ron Paul delegates with the same cultish hostility displayed by Landru's followers toward those who were "not of the Body."

Witness the fact that objections by Paul delegates on the convention floor were shouted down by mouth-breathing party cadres chanting "USA! USA! USA!" (A more appropriate refrain, given the Party's emphasis on unity uber alles, would have been: "Ein volk, ein reich, ein fuhrer!") Also of note were the Soviet-style methods used to suppress even the audible mention of Ron Paul's name during the convention's roll call.

"It's a totalitarian process," lamented Yelena Vorobyov, a disillusioned 30-year-old Ron Paul delegate from Minnesota, referring to revised party rules -- enacted by a patently fraudulent voice vote after key potential dissidents had been detained or effectively abducted -- that stripped all power from state parties. What the RNC accomplished in Tampa is best captured in another German expression -- Gleichschaltung, the "coordination" of all activities under the control of the party's central committee.

What happened in Tampa was a relatively genteel version of the undisguised Brownshirt-style thuggery that had been employed by Party operatives during the primaries. Witness what took place during Louisiana's state GOP convention on June 2, where Henry Herford -- the convention's duly elected chairman -- was feloniously assaulted by a thugscrum of four Shreveport Police Officers, who acted on the orders of the Quisling faction within the state Party.

Herford was hospitalized for a dislocated prosthetic hip. In keeping with standard procedure, the uniformed assailants filed spurious charges against the victim.

"They arrested me for … resisting arrest, and they never said I was under arrest," Hereford commented after being released from the hospital. "And [they said] I didn't leave when they told me to leave -- but I never was told to leave."

Herford, who underwent a CAT scan on his hip and received a painkiller injection, didn't sign his arrest papers.

"I can't sign anything while I'm on a narcotic, and I told the police that," he explained.

Alex Helwig, a Ron Paul delegate and Chairman of the Rules Committee, made a formal motion to remove the chair. In a fashion reminiscent of a third world dictatorship, Helwig was seized by Shreveport Police and removed from the room. During his brief detention, Helwig suffered several broken fingers -- a punishment favored by Mussolini's Blackshirts -- and when he returned to the event he walked with the aid of a cane.

During the convention, Doug Wead recounted, "Louisiana GOP officials ignored the vast majority of duly elected delegates and attempted to use illegally adopted rules to deny Ron Paul supporters an opportunity to attend the Republican National Convention in Tampa."

What happened in Louisiana was a detailed foreshadowing of what would later take place at the national convention. Once again, this is to be expected of those who preside over the GOP, which is America's original socialist party.

In their valuable book Red Republicans and Lincoln's Marxists: Marxism in the Civil War , Walter D. Kennedy and Al Benson, Jr. examine the role played by the "48ers" -- veterans of the 18 interconnected revolutions that convulsed Europe in 1848-1849 -- in creating the Republican Party, bringing Abraham Lincoln to power, and conducting the war against the South.

Lincoln, who would later slaughter hundreds of thousands of Americans in order to create a unitary national government, offered unqualified support to the proto-Marxist revolution of 1848. "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better," he insisted in a January 12, 1848 speech. "Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people, that can, may revolutionize, and make their own of so much of the territory as they inhabit."

The "48ers," note Kennedy and Benson, sought to overthrow the existing political order and then consolidate power over larger territories. They weren't secessionists who sought merely to withdraw from an unsuitable political arrangement, as was the case with the American South.

The revolutions of 1848 understandably appealed to the idealistic impulses of people weary of absolutism.  But, as Kennedy and Benson observe, this proved to be a familiar bait-and-switch, with those "freed from local decentralized control" were made subject to "centralized authoritarian control" in the name of Democracy.

The revolutionaries applauded by Lincoln lusted to reconstruct society through violence. In Germany, the stated objective of the revolution was to fuse a multitude of independent principalities into "a united indivisible republic." Again, this foreshadowed the work of Abraham Lincoln and the party that elevated him to power.

When the revolt of 1848-49 was crushed, the "48er" diaspora brought many of the most ambitious and radical of the revolutionaries to the United States, where many of them were instrumental in creating the Republican Party. Several of them -- such as Joseph Wedemeyer, Charles A. Dana, Franz Sigel, August Willich, and Carl Schurz -- played prominent roles in the war to conquer the independent South. Dana, a personal friend of Karl Marx and Frederich Engels, was assistant secretary of war under Lincoln.

The slogan-spewing herd poisoners who compose the GOP's media auxiliary routinely depict Barack Obama as the embodiment of an ideology alien to America's constitutional origins. If such people were burdened with a particle of intellectual honesty, they would recognize that to the extent this depiction of Obama is accurate, he is Lincoln's true heir.

Gallup: Americans Rate Public Schools the Worst Place to Educate Children

Gallup: Americans Rate Public Schools the Worst Place to Educate Children
By Terence P. Jeffrey
August 29, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - A new Gallup poll released today indicates that Americans rate public schools the worst place to educate children.

In the national survey conducted Aug. 9-12, private independent schools, parochial and church-related schools, charter schools and home-schooling all rated higher than public schools.

Gallup interviewers asked respondents: "I'm going to read a list of ways in which children are educated in the U.S. today. As I read each one, please indicate--based on what you know or have read and heard--how good an education each provides children--excellent, good, only fair, or poor. How about: public schools, parochial or church-related schools, independent private schools, charter schools, or home-schooling?"

Only 5 percent said they believe public schools give children an excellent eduction.

Another 32 percent said they believe public schools give children a good education. But this combined 37 percent who said public schools give children an excellent or good education was the lowest among the different types of schools Gallup included in its survey.

Americans ranked independent private schools highest, with 31 percent saying they provide an excellent education and 47 percent saying they provide a good education--for a combined 78 percent who say they provide an excellent or good education.

Parochial and church-related schools ranked second, with 21 percent saying they provide an excellent education and 48 percent saying they provide a good education--for a combined 69 percent who say they provide an excellent or good education.

Charter schools came in third, with 17 percent saying they provide an excellent education and 43 percent saying the provide a good education--for combined 60 percent positive rating.

Home-schooling came in fourth, with 13 percent saying it provides an excellent education and 33 percent saying it provides a good education--for a combined 46 percent who give it a positive rating.

Public schools finished fifth--or last place.

Nineteen percent of Americans said they believe public schools give students a "poor" education. Only 2 percent said that about independent private schools, and only 5 percent said that about parochial and church-related schools and charter schools. Fourteen percent said they thought home-schooling provided students with a poor education.

The Gallup survey was based on a random sample of 1,012 American adults and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage point. Of the 1,012 surveyed, 236 said they were parents of a child who will be attending school in grades K through 12 this school year. (This small sub-sample had a margin of error of +/- 8 percentage points.)

Among the parents sending their children to school in grades K through 12 this year, 83 percent said they were sending their child to a public school, 9 percent to an independent private school, and 2 percent to a parochial or church-related school.
