Dear Tico: I'm an architect. Having decorative entries into
apartment complexes is NOT the same as having a gated community.
Those must have continually closed gates that will preclude everyone—
on foot or in vehicles. These days, card readers take the place of
24-7 guards. But the gate must be functioning as always being closed
before one can make the errant claim that the complex was
"gated" (ha!). The fact that Martin could walk through proves what
