Re: where the Muslim revolutions are going

Guten Abend from Köln  Charles!

Although I tend to believe we are probably very much divergent on most political issues, I agree with, "Brough" or whoever wrote the piec you submitted.  (If in fact you wrote this, my apologies and kudos to you!)

I actually agree, and although only time will tell whether or not our recent actions in Afghanistant and Iraq were beneficial for long term stability in the region,  I tend to beleive that this is but one more example of failed foreign policy.  As Tito was able to do in Yugoslavia,  Hussein was able to do in Iraq,  and Quaddafi "is/was"  able to do in Libya.   That is to say, hold a number of various cultures together and unite a group of clans and tribes into a Nation-State.

Again, only time will tell what the outcome of this Nato involvement in Libya will be, but I surmise it is a mistake, from the jump.

Are we going to end up with a democratic North Africa and Near East?
Our US secular mission has long been "to make the world safe for
democracy." So, in the process, we have overthrown Husein of Iraq and
established a new regime there as well as seting up of the Karsai
regime in Afghanistan. This does not seem to set a very good example
of what great government our promises can bring them (!).

All you can really say about the regimes in Iraq, Egypt and Tunisia
that have falled and the ones under siege now is that they held a
deeply divided people together in a functioning state.  They
controlled the different tribes with their many different loyalties.
To change that into a US style form of government can lead to many
problems. They tend to end up with a longlist of little parties with
far different agendas and little connection to the nation as a whole.
Corruption breeds in this type of condition..

So, these revolutions present a problem.  They can result in more
resentment and chaos in nations that hold out against the revolution
and disruptive government for years to come in those that do. That
gives plenty of room for the increase in Muslim militancy and
terrorism. It seems to me it will all eventually end in the rise of
more dictatorships in North Africa and the Near East.

Oh, by the way, Donald Trump says he is proud of himself!
Whooopeee!!!  LOL
