THIS WEEK'S CONUNDRUM

Did the Feds Mislead the Public About the Oil Spill?

Remember a few months back when we heard that most of the spilled oil had magically disappeared from the Gulf?

While most of the mainstream media was repeating reports that the oil had indeed vanished, MoJo environmental reporter Kate Sheppard was uncovering the real story: The disappearing oil report was based on estimates, rather than real data, and despite officials' claims that the report was peer-reviewed, it turns out it was rushed to press without much scientific scrutiny at all.

Kate was right: Last week, the Oil Spill Commission weighed in, lambasting the Obama administration for misrepresenting the report that stated how much oil remained in the Gulf following clean-up efforts.
