**JP** Please Don't Hurt My Heart

by Abby Zimet

Today marks the start of the tenth year of the Afghanistan War, making it the longest U.S. war ever. In a fitting tribute come allegations of war crimes in western Kandahar Province by U.S. soldiers who murdered Afghan civilians for sport, collected body parts as souvenirs, and committed other atrocities. The New York Times asked Afghans about the impact of such actions, and others like them, on their grievous lives. They also profile the life and death of some of the 30,000 U.S. soldiers dubbed, at one military funeral, "this noble generation of heroes."
