CHEYENNE — Wyoming has become the fourth state to allow citizens to carry concealed guns without a permit.
Gov. Matt Mead signed a bill into law Wednesday to allow state citizens legally entitled to own guns to carry them concealed starting in July.
Similar bills are pending in about half a dozen other state legislatures around the country. Alaska, Arizona and Vermont already don't require permits for carrying concealed guns.
A national spokesman for the National Rifle Association says the push to allow more concealed guns comes from common people who demand the freedom to protect themselves in tough economic times.
But a spokesman for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence in Washington says the gun industry is pushing to loosen restrictions on carrying guns to boost sales.
"Every man, woman, and responsible child has an unalienable individual, civil, Constitutional, and human right to obtain, own, and carry, openly or concealed, any weapon -- rifle, shotgun, handgun, machine gun, anything -- any time, any place, without asking anyone's permission."
