Cost of Living Hits RECORD High

But no COLAs for the seniors.

Cost of Living Hits RECORD High

How's that hope and change working America?

DENVER -- The cost of living is now at record high levels, according to numbers released Thursday.

Turmoil in Japan, Africa, and the Middle East is being linked to the increasing costs of everything from gasoline to disposable diapers to putting food on the table.

In just the past month, the wholesale price of food saw its biggest jump since 1974.

The technical term for the cost of living is "chained, consumer price index."

For example, in Colorado, we paid an average of 70-cents more for a gallon of regular gasoline than we did a year ago, so if you have a 20 gallon tank and fill up twice a week you're going to pay $1,500 more a year in gas.

That price increase in fuel means everything costs more.

The wholesale price of food climbed almost 4 percent last month, the biggest jump in more than 35 years, and that's a big chunk out of the median Colorado family income of $55,000.

And the cost of food in grocery stores and restaurants is predicted to increase another 4 percent by the end of the year.

For example, the price of a gallon of milk has increased from $2 to $2.50, and the price could jump to $3.25 or higher.

For a family that drinks 10 gallons of milk a month the cost would go from $20 to $32.50 a month, an increase from $200 to $390 a year for milk.

For a family that spent $200 dollars a week on food in 2009 would see their annual food tab go from $10,400 a year to about $10,900.

At a time when many household incomes have dropped, families could be spending $500 more for food.

This is called inflation. It's that evil word the Federal Reserve and the Obama regime are attempting to hide but the numbers don't lie.
