Feds Threaten Oakland Over Plan To License Marijuana Farms

"The whole point of the regulatory system is to keep this out of the hands of criminal cartels and protect public safety," Councilwoman Rebecca Kaplan, author of the original ordinance, told the Chronicle.

A letter from US Attorney Melinda Haag said the city's ordinance, which city council passed last year, breaks federal law and opens marijuana growers to prosecution.

I would contend that Oakland's "regulatory system" is meant to provide a tax base (which "could earn as much as $1 million annually from tax revenue generated by the farms") for a "legitimized" cartel and that it has nothing to do with protecting public safety.

Has anyone ever noticed that when Federal government officials claim a law is being broken they never cite the law they claim is being broken?
