Marvel's Newest Superhero, The Rude Nude Dude

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CAP) - Comic book giant Marvel Comics yesterday revealed their newest and perhaps most controversial superhero to date when they announced plans for The Rude Nude Dude. The news came during a press conference for next year's Comic-Con comic book convention in San Diego.

"We took a look at the superhero universe and saw that most of the ordinary super powers were already taken," said Marvel's Stan Lee. "So we asked ourselves - what would a superhero built for this day and age need that nobody else has?"

The answer, said Lee, involved three factors. First, the hero had to be rude, to fit in with an over-worked and stressed-out society. Second, he had to match up with the younger crowd, using hip lingo like the word dude. And last, he needed to bring an air of controversy in order to really stand out.

"And thus was born the ultimate superhero for this generation," said Lee. "The Rude Nude Dude."

Early storyboards show The Rude Nude Dude as an incredibly sarcastic coffee barrister by day who travels the city streets by night, naked and looking for disagreements. Unlike most superheroes, he is not in particularly good physical shape, which causes him to be very defensive and adds to his repertoire of witty remarks.

"He's really an everyman, more a typical nine-to-fiver than a hero," said Comic-Con co-founder Albert Quelton. "He's like a cross between Russell Crowe, Steve-O, and Margaret Cho. He's delicious!"

However, comic book critics were quick to pan the new hero as a fraud. Theresa Noble, President of the National Organization for the Advancement of Responsible Comics and Video Games, said The Rude Nude Dude is "nothing more than an unpleasant naked man."

"He doesn't seem to have any super powers, and he doesn't help people in need - in fact, he just insults them and turns his back," said Noble. "And his catch phrase, I'd better be careful or someone could lose an eye, that just sounds like macho boasting, if it means what I think it means.

"We will do everything in our power to keep The Rude Nude Dude off the shelves," added Noble.

Comic-Con International will take place next summer at the San Diego Convention Center.
