Gov. Gary Johnson to Discuss SCOTUS Health Care Ruling at Online Town Hall with Special Guest Kathryn Serkes

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

6:00 pm PDT / 7:00 pm MDT / 8:00 pm CDT / 9:00 pm EDT

Libertarian presidential candidate and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson will hold an online Town Hall Tuesday at 9:00 pm Eastern / 6:00 pm Pacific to discuss the Supreme Court's ruling on the Affordable Care Act. Johnson will be joined for the online discussion by Kathryn Serkes of the Doctor Patient Medical Association.

Announcing the Town Hall, Johnson said, "Mitt Romney created the template. Barack Obama and his friends in Congress created the law. And now, the Supreme Court has found a way to say it is OK for the government to complete its takeover of Americans' health care.

"With the legal challenges to President Obama's health care law having failed, it is going to be up to the political system to repeal what may be the largest federal power grab in history. While Governor Romney's words about repealing the health care law sound good, the effort to put patients back in charge of their health needs a leader who has never advocated an individual government health care mandate.

"What Americans need is for health care to be affordable and accessible. A law that creates thousands of new IRS agents and fewer doctors will do just the opposite. Only a functioning marketplace will meet the real medical care needs of patients, and that is the debate we need to have."

Gov. Johnson's Town Hall will begin at 9:00 pm Eastern / 6:00 pm Pacific on July 3rd. It will be featured on Vokle.com. Libertarian Nominee Gary Johnson Wants to be Taken Seriously

July 2, 2012

US News and World Report

By Kenneth T. Walsh

Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson is trying to elbow his way into contention as a major national candidate who deserves to be take seriously.

To that end, Johnson is joining the many conservatives who have condemned the Supreme Court's ruling that President Obama's healthcare law is constitutional. Johnson calls it a "truly disturbing decision" because the law requires people to buy health insurance, and this erodes freedom and liberty. Johnson is urging Congress to repeal the law.

What's next for third parties after Gary Johnson?

June 26, 2012

Washington Times

The exodus of former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson from the Republican Party to the Libertarian Party did not occur in a political vacuum. Years of frustration over the poor national and local candidates that the primary process routinely churns out has sparked a combination of dissatisfaction with the two party system and even PACs aimed at making elections competitive against career incumbents.

While outwardly Election 2012 may appear to be another cycle as usual for the two-party paradigm, the ongoing global economic instability, widening distrust for incumbents and the swelling number of disaffected Democrats and Republicans may spell the end of the American dispensation of duopoly.

Gary Johnson sets sights on Romney donors in wake of health care decision

June 28, 2012

AllVoices.com

With presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney saying his campaign has received $1 million in donations since the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on a 5-4 vote announced Thursday morning, Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson finds himself focused on the irony – and the money – of it all.

"The irony of Gov. Romney receiving $1 million from people wanting Obama's law repealed is unbelievable," Johnson wrote in a fundraising email sent to supporters and media Thursday afternoon. Johnson pointed out that Romney, "until he was running for president, led the way toward nationalized health care."

Gary Johnson anti-bipartisan ad has subliminal message

June 28, 2012

Hammer of Truth

By Stephen VanDyke

Libertarian candidate for president Gary Johnson's campaign have now twice — and we expect more — inserted subliminal statements into a lightning strike b-roll of DC's Washington monument. Previously, the words "1776 KICKS 1984′s ASS" were blipped by, but now this time Johnson's message is that he's taking no duff from the other major parties on the "wasted vote" syndrome invoked every four years against third party contenders.

In the video, Johnson tells voters, "For those of you worried I'll take votes away from the Democrat and to those of you worried I'll take votes away from he Republican, I say good."

Where goeth Ron Paul/Gary Johnson voters in Nevada?

June 29, 2012

Nevada Appeal

By Chuck Muth

Considering how close presidential elections have been in recent years, conservative votes for the Libertarian Party nominee, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson — who is likely to be the preferred backup option for Ron Paul supporters — could swing enough votes in enough swing states to swing the election ... and control of the Supreme Court for a generation … to Oba?ma in November.

So what does the GOP do about all those conservative/libertarian voters who still aren't sold on voting for Mitt Romney?

Johnson asks to speak at NAACP national convention

June 28, 2012

Examiner.com

By Karl Dickey

Citing his likely presence on the ballot in all 50 states and that more than one-third of American voters identify themselves as neither Republicans nor Democrats, Libertarian Party Presidential nominee and former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson is asking the NAACP to allow him to speak at the organization's July 7-12 national convention in Houston, Texas.

In a letter to NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous, Johnson said, "I would respectfully suggest that inviting only President Obama and Governor Romney to your upcoming convention leaves not only a significant voice, but also a significant portion of the electorate unrepresented in terms of 2012 election choices.

Libertarians Unite: Gary Johnson Courting Ron Paul Supporters

June 27, 2012

US News and World Report

By Kenneth T. Walsh

Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson is courting supporters of Republican candidate Ron Paul, hoping that a transfer of allegiance will infuse his campaign with new momentum.

Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, has yet to generate anything close to the passionate level of support enjoyed by Paul, a GOP congressman from Texas who advocates libertarian positions on many issues. Both Johnson and Paul call for severe cutbacks in federal spending and power, and both are very critical of U.S. military interventions abroad.

Gov. Gary Johnson Opposes Supreme Court Ruling On Health Care

June 28, 2012

Libertarios of America

By Robert Butler

Libertarian presidential nominee and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's health care ruling:

"It has been clear for a while that we need a new President and a new Congress. Now it appears we need a new Supreme Court.

"Whether the Court chooses to call the individual mandate a tax or anything else, allowing it to stand is a truly disturbing decision. The idea that government can require an individual to buy something simply because that individual exists and breathes in America is an incredible blow to the bedrock principles of freedom and liberty. It must be repealed, and Congress needs to get about doing so today.
