RJC destroys its own credibility and so does Newt

The Republican Jewish Coalition held its debate today - minus Ron Paul.
For some reason known only to its organizers, the coalition disgraced itself by going directly against the tradition of open discourse associated with Judaism.

That being said, we did learn one thing today: Newt Gingrich is profoundly stupid.

I'll get back to that, but let me return to the issue of the decision to exclude a candidate who is in a position to finish at or near the top in the first state awarding delegates to the 2012 GOP Convention. ( This guy thinks he'll win.)

The most prominent Jewish Republican of my acquaintance is Murray Sabrin, the Ramapo College professor who ran for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate back in 2008.

Murray just sent me an e-mail telling me of a decision by the Republican Jewish Coalition to ban Ron Paul from their 2012 GOP presidential debates. Murray writes:

This is democracy?  Ironically, the only candidate who supports  Israel's sovereignty is pilloried by neocons in the RJC who claim to be "pro-Israel."   I am thinking of organizing of a Jews for Ron Paul, the man for peace, freedom, free enterprise, individual rights, the core values of Judaism.  In the 1960's, before I embraced the limited government philosophy I watched a Sunday television program about Passover.  I will never forget what the narrator said:  The essence of Judaism is the sovereignty of the individual.

Murray, whose father fought in the resistance against the Nazis,  is far from the only proudly Jewish person who objects to this disgraceful repudiation of the tradition of free intellectual inquiry Jews have done so much to promote.   Walter  Block reports on the Lew Rockwell blog that a "Jews For Ron Paul" group really has been created:

This is a call for all Jewish supporters of Ron Paul to join our group JEWS FOR RON PAUL. The president of this group is Thomas Nash, and his e-mail address is thomasnash1027@gmail.com. In order to join JFRP, you must be Jewish and, of course, a Ron Paul supporter. We define the former according to Jewish law.

What, no converts? I was thinking of converting just to join. Especially after I read this post, also on Lew Rockwell:

Is Ron Paul an anti-Semite? To even ask this question is to insult this good man. I am of a Jewish background and I have known Dr. Paul for more decades than either of us would be happy to admit. I have had numerous discussions with him, I have broken bread with him on more than a few occasions, and have attended many conferences with him. Ron Paul never tires of citing them when he discusses not only economic subjects such as money, the business cycle, unemployment, Austrian economics, but also, ethics, liberty, freedom. These two are his greatest intellectual and moral influences. Can anyone imagine a real anti-Semite befriending the likes of me, Gordon and Sabrin, welcoming an organization of Jews dedicated to supporting him, and mentioning two prominent Jews as his prime mentors?

Now back to Gingrich.

I have seen him speak on numerous occasions and I can safely say that reports of his intelligence are greatly exaggerated.

Gingrich has one talent: He can take a view that is politically expedient for him to promote and dress it up so that the boobs believe he is uttering great thoughts.

To that end, he tried to suck up to the RJC crowd today by announcing that if elected president he would name John Bolton as his secretary of state.

Is Gingrich so stupid he does not know that Bolton was one of the architects of the biggest foreign-policy blunder in American history?

Apparently so. He seems to have no idea even at this late date that the Iraq War did not go well.

 As someone who has a fair amount of experience knocking around in areas where a symmetrical wars were being fought, let me point out the obvious: These idiots think they're still fighting World War II.

No, you dolts. That war may have begun for the U.S. 70 years ago. But it ended shortly thereafter - much more quickly than the neocon debacle in Iraq.

As for the modern Mideast, it is much more complicated that that Captain Kangaroo clone John Bolton can comprehend.
