Has Julian Heicklen Been Arrested Yet?

Julian Heicklen routinely distributes FIJA literature in front of courts. It seems a zealous DA in Manhattan is trying to make the case that distributing such literature is "jury tampering."

When libertarian rights activist Julian Heicklen was served a summons for jury tampering the officers at his door told him that if he didn't appear at the January 24 hearing he would be arrested.

"In my letter of January 17, 2011," Heicklen recently told his supporters, "I notified the court that I would not appear. I expect to be arrested and confined next week. Probably the court will not allow bail, though it is irrelevant. I do not post bail."

Heicklen wants to use his trial for jury tampering as a forum to publicize the right of jury nullification as expounded by the Fully Informed Jury Association.

But Heicklen knows that he doesn't have a chance without publicity.

"If I am left alone, I will be eaten alive," Heicklen warns. "I will have no chance of winning this case, regardless of the merits."

Because of that Heicklen has appealed to all freedom loving people everywhere.

"This case can only be won by you, in the court of public opinion. If you win it there, the court decision will be irrelevant. The price of justice is eternal publicity. Your job is to swamp the court and media with letters, e-mails, tweets, and phone calls."

"This trial could be the defining trial of the decade," Heicklen has said. "We must not blow it."

Many have already come to his aid.

Although Heicklen intends to represent himself as counsel pro se he has formed a 17-member "advisory circle," eight of whom are attorneys.
