Is Dick Armey your friend?

Dick Armey and con man Newt Gingrich were the principle authors of the Contract With America in 1994. It was a ploy used to get republicans elected to office - nothing more.

On the first day of their majority in the House, the Republicans promised to pass eight major reforms:
  • require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply to Congress;
  • select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
  • cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
  • limit the terms of all committee chairs;
  • ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
  • require committee meetings to be open to the public;
  • require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
  • guarantee an honest accounting of the Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.

It's been 16 years - I'm still waiting - just one would be nice.

In 2003, Armey joined Washington law firm DLA Piper as a senior policy adviser. Armey was the firm's co-chairman of its Homeland Security Task Force. DLA Piper lobbies congress on behalf of pharmaceutical maker Bristol-Myers Squibb, health care provider Metropolitan Health Networks, and the pharmaceutical firm Medicines Company.

Is Dick Armey/Freedom Works working in your best interest? Or, will Freedom Works steer you to candidates that can be or already have been bought off?

Is the public once again blind to the political tactics used in America?

The only contract that is worth anything is one where you have a remedy in the courts when one party to the contract fails to perform. Did you personally sign the current Contract For America? If not, you have no remedy.

Nothing has so changed and energized American politics in recent years as has the grassroots Tea Party movement that sprang up in 2009. In rallies, marches, and town-hall meetings since then, hundreds of thousands of Americans have turned out to protest the boundless growth of government spending, regulation, and debt, and call for the restoration of America's basic principles: individual liberty; fiscal responsibility; and, most important, limited constitutional government.

Establishment Democrats and Republicans haven't known quite what to make of the movement. To help them, and all Americans, understand, Give Us Liberty, the new book by Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe, provides "an intimate history of the movement" and what it means for America.
