This likely means  the policy will stay in place, and that it could take many more years to repeal the failed Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, which has ruined thousands of lives and careers and could now ruin thousands more after this disappointing vote. Shame on the Senate.
 
Senator John McCain gave a thumbs up on the Senate floor after the vote.
