Three states have issued over 57,000 driver's licenses to illegal aliens in the first six months of 2010. Were any of those issued to members of Hezbollah? We can only hope not.
NEW MEXICO, UTAH and WASHINGTON DO BOOMING BUSINESS SINCE ARIZONA SB 1077
A dangerous practice by three states might lead to serious consequences in the other 47.
The three states, New Mexico, Utah and Washington, have issued over 57,000 driver's licenses to illegal aliens during the first six months of 2010. Could any of them have been members of al-Qaeda or Hezbollah? Obtaining a driver's license is the first step to freedom to move around the country.
From Surge In Driver's Licenses For Illegal Immigrants:
New Mexico, Washington State and Utah have long allowed illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses and all three have seen a major increase in undocumented applicants since Arizona passed its immigration control law earlier this year. Hawaii also offers illegal immigrants driver's licenses but was not featured in this particular analysis, which was conducted by a national news organization.
It reveals an astonishing 60% increase over last year in the rate of driver's licenses issued to immigrants in New Mexico, Washington State and Utah during the 10 weeks that followed approval of Arizona's measure. New Mexico issued 10,257 licenses to immigrants through the first six months of 2010, compared with 13,481 for all of 2009.
Utah gave 41,000 illegal immigrants driver's licenses through the first week of June compared with 43,429 for all of 2008 (the state did not provide data for 2009) and Washington granted 3,200 licenses to people from outside the U.S. during the same period, surpassing the pace of 5,992 for all of 2009.
The states allow illegal immigrants to get licenses simply by not requiring proof of legal residency. Maryland ended the practice just last spring by denying licenses to motorists who can't prove they're in the country legally. Earlier this year Utah became the nation's first state to offer a special class of driver's licenses for illegal immigrants who will be ineligible to obtain the cards when new federal security standards kick in.
The 57,000 driver's licenses are disconcerting for a number of reasons, but particularly because of two other articles. If the 57,000 driver's licenses are "A," then the next two pieces of information might be considered "B" and "C."
From Myrick Calls For Taskforce to Investigate Presence of Hezbollah on the US Southern Border:
Iranian President Ahmadinejad and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez appear have formed a tight bond. This is concerning on many levels, but it may also explain the recent rise of Iranian nationals being apprehended by well trained border agents. Experts believe Iranian agents and members of Hezbollah are going to Venezuela to learn Spanish. When somewhat fluent, they obtain false documents in hopes of crossing the US border as Hispanics. If stopped by border agents when trying to cross, they try to pass off as Mexican. Only well trained border agents can detect that their Spanish accent is Venezuelan, not Mexican. If this is not detected they are merely sent back into Mexico where they try to cross into the US again, rather than being detained for more questioning.
The Venezuela and Hezbollah false documentation connection is further supported by NY County District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau's comments at a Brookings Institution speech on December 8, 2009. He stated: "Particularly alarming, within the ranks of Chavez's corrupt government lie supporters of Hezbollah. In fact, Mr. El Aissami, who at one time headed Onidex, the Venezuelan passport and naturalization agency inside the interior ministry, is suspected of having issued passports to members of Hamas and Hezbollah." If officials within Venezuela are willingly giving away passports to Hezbollah, it stands to reason they can help them with a variety of other fraudulent documentation.
Further, some authorities have opined that Hezbollah and other Islamic radicals have been welcomed into Mexico and other Latin American countries by the cartels because of their access to cheap narcotics from Afghanistan. One high ranking Mexican Army officer, who asked not to be named for security reasons, states they believe Hezbollah may be training the Mexican drug cartels' enforcers in the art of bomb making. This might lead to Israel-like car bombings of Mexican/USA border personnel or National Guard units in the border regions. This militant threat could be exacerbated by the current tensions between the US and Iran, since Iran directs Hezbollah.
From Mexico thwarts Hezbollah bid to set up South American network:
Mexico foiled an attempt by Hezbollah to establish a network in South America, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Hezbollah operatives employed Mexicans nationals with family ties to Lebanon to set up the network, designed to target Israel and the West, the Al-Seyassah daily said.
According to the report, Mexican police mounted a surveillance operation on the group's leader, Jameel Nasr, who traveled frequently to Lebanon to receive information and instructions from Hezbollah commanders there.
Nasr was living in Tijuana, Mexico at the time of his arrest, the report said.
The report follows warnings from the United States that Hezbollah and its backer Iran are stepping up operations in the region.
Are the dots A, B and C able to be connected?
I think they might.
Agents of Hezbollah arrested in Tijuana. Could any of the terror group have possibly slipped across the border to New Mexico or made their way to Utah or Washington?
Perhaps.
If readers are betting persons, look at it like this: there's 57,000 chances of it happening, at the very least. At some point, the answer to that question will be positively answered–hopefully, in a way that's not harmful to the citizens of the U.S.
Of course, "hope" wouldn't seem to be the most effective strategy when fighting terror.
Even if it is kind of a cute campaign slogan.
