The more I read about their governor the better I like him. He and gov Christie of NJ seem to me to be by far the best governors out there. Hayley Barbour of Mississippi is another who is doing a good job of it.

LOUISIANA LEGISLATURE PASSES HEALTH CARE FREEDOM ACT
Bi-partisan support leads to passage by Democrat-controlled Legislature
Late Sunday night in the waning hours of the 2010 Louisiana Legislative Session, Louisiana became the first state with a Democrat-controlled Legislature to pass a measure which opposes the requirement to purchase health insurance – the centerpiece for Obama’s health reform agenda. Representative Kirk Talbot’s (R-River Ridge) House Bill 1474 passed both chambers with bi-partisan support and goes to Governor Bobby Jindal to be signed into law. The measure is modeled after the American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act now introduced or announced in 42 states.
“Through a grassroots effort led by Louisiana Grassroots Network, the citizens of Louisiana sent a message to the Louisiana Legislature that the hard working Louisiana taxpayer wants and deserves a choice in health care,” said Robin Edwards, Executive Director of Louisiana Grassroots Network.
With additional support from Louisiana based Pelican Institute for Public Policy and the Louisiana chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB Louisiana), our conservative voice echoed throughout the halls of the Louisiana State Capitol.
House Bill 1474 states that “No resident of this state, regardless of whether he has or is eligible for health insurance coverage under any policy or program provided by or through his employer, or a plan sponsored by the state or the federal government, shall be required to obtain or maintain a policy of individual health insurance coverage.”
The measure faced a tough battle in the Senate. In the initial introduction to the Senate Health and Welfare Committee, opposition was strong and an amendment which may hamper an additional lawsuit based on the 10th amendment was added, but it ultimately passed by a 5-4 vote.
Upon re-introduction to the Senate, in a very questionable manner, House Bill 1474 was recommitted to the Senate Finance Committee in an effort to kill it. With the help of Senator Danny Martiny (R-Kenner), it was recalled from Senate Finance to be heard by the full Senate where it received a vote of 28-4.
Governor Jindal is expected to sign this bill.
