Admin discipline recommended for troops involved in Quran burning

Up to seven U.S. troops will face administrative punishment—not criminal charges—as a result of the military investigation into the February Quran-burning incident in Afghanistan, according to The Associated Press.
While none of the recommended punishment decisions are final, it is believed that one Navy servicemember and six Army soldiers will receive "nonjudicial disciplinary actions" for the incident that touched off deadly protests and caused President Obama to apologize to Afghans.
According to the story, the punishment can amount to a letter in the servicemember's file, to lost wages or additional duties.
The holy books were taken from extremists at the Parwan Detention Facility because officials believed messages were being sent inside.
U.S. officials and the president have said all along that the servicemembers did not know what they were throwing into the fire pit.
"The error was inadvertent. I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible," Obama said in a letter at the time.
Several were killed and dozens injured skirmishes after the incident as the Islamic militia called for retribution and thousands took to the streets.
