Re: Be interesting to see who blinks on this one - hope Boehner stays pat

Mr. Thompson,

I do not find this the least bit surprising and it goes back to what I said about politicians, risk taking and feeling immune/entitled. I know a Col who was in line for a star and was working at the pentagon when a certain administration took over high ranking staffer's from the VP office, Sec of Defense and another chief advisor marched into the Pentagon and demanded intel of all types about a particular country so that an invasion could be justified.  Then after 911 they quit coming.  He retired after this simply on the fact that he did not dedicate his life and career to protect a constitution and the US for a president to attack a sovereign nation unprovoked. Thus herein a precedent was set.

This has happened in many administrations but the real question is if Mr. Obama has done anything that is an impeachable offense.  Some here in the forum would argue strongly yes.  But I would like for those with more experience and information to weigh in on-(since this now is a NATO action) is what NATO is doing inherently wrong?

I am a bit of a "Monore-ist" if you will.  I feel like problems are sometimes best solved by countries in the neighboring region.  That said, I also completely understand the human catastrophe of sitting back and allowing 300,000 individuals being macheted to death, wars spilling over into neighboring countries and on the brink of destabilizing regions in Europe and the sheer atrocities of lining up millions and placing them in camps and exterminating them as if they were less than arthropods simply because of their religious belief, it absolutely unacceptable. What would the world be like today and what would the landscape of the Middle East (i.e. no  post WWII Zionist movement) be like if the US and England went into Germany and stopped Hitler when the rumors of the mass extermination of Jews had started.  We turn a blind eye when it is convenient,  but when does not turning a blind eye constitute acceptable foreign policy for the sake of human preservation?

Would we be having this discussion if it were Mr. Bush (#2) had done this?  I remember a hearing where a well respected 4 star Army general sat before a Congressional committee and said that it would take more than 300,000 troops and years to invade Iraq/Afghanistan and support a war there.  He was ridiculed, side-lined, forced into retirement and no one from the Sec of Defense's office (not even a protocol officer) showed up to his retirement farewell.  All because he stated what we all now know was true.  He got the ultimate screw you for speaking up.

So, I would like to put it out there amongst the group, to for just a moment put one's personal feelings aside regarding one's dislike of the current president, pretend that the is Pres. G. W. Bush doing the exact same thing-would you find it as equally atrocious-this unconstitutional, unilateral attack on a sovereign nation?

Obama Overruled 2 Top Lawyers on War Power in Libya

President Obama rejected the views of top lawyers at the Pentagon and the Justice Department when he decided that he had the legal authority to continue American military participation in the air war in Libya without Congressional authorization, according to officials familiar with internal administration deliberations.
