Has the United States ever had a homosexual president? U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Newton, recently indicated his belief that James Buchanan, our 15th president, probably was. The subject has been debated over the years by the gossip historians, and probably will never be decided to everyone's satisfaction. What we do know is that Mr. Buchanan never married, and that he had a very close personal friend, Alabama Sen. Rufus King, who lived with him for years.
