Only 28 % Believe America is on the Right Path

Only 28 % Believe America is on the Right Path

It looks like the majority believe the Hope and Change road has America going down the wrong path.

Rasmussen Report:

Just 28% of U.S. voters now think the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey taken the week ending Sunday, November 21.  This finding is up slightly from last week and is the same level found the week of the midterm elections.

Following the GOP takeover of the House in the midterm elections, confidence that the country is moving in the right direction is down to 47% among Democrats from 59% the week before Election Day. The percentage of those who think the country is headed the wrong way is basically unchanged since then among Republicans (86%) and voters not affiliated with either of the major parties (71%).

Overall confidence in the nation's current course has been hovering around the 30% mark since last November except for a brief burst of enthusiasm, largely among Democratic voters, just after Congress' passage of the national health care bill in late March.

Sixty-six percent (66%) of voters say the country is heading down the wrong track, nearly unchanged from last week. Following passage of the health care bill, this number dipped slightly but has since returned to levels found prior to the passage of the bill.

Leading up to President Obama's inauguration in January 2009, the number of voters who felt the country was heading in the right direction remained below 20%. The week of his inauguration, voter confidence rose to 27% and then steadily increased to 40% in early May 2009. Confidence began falling after that.

Consistent with recent polling, there continues to be a huge perception gap between the Political Class and Mainstream voters.

Sixty-five percent (65%) of the Political Class believe the United States is generally heading in the right direction, down significantly from last week, while 79% of Mainstream voters think the country is going down the wrong track.

A plurality of black voters (47%) still believe the country is heading in the right direction, though that number has been dropping steadily. Seventy percent (70%) of white voters and 66% of all other voters disagree.
