Rick Perry has tried to distance himself from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), but in his capacity as head of the Republican Governors Association he released a letter, co-signed with a Democrat, on the day of the Senate vote urging Congress to "act now" for the sake of the economy. That's why the Fort Worth Star Telegram ran the headline, "Perry Joins with Democrat to Push for Bailout" (October 1, 2008) and the Dallas Morning News headline read, "Gov. Rick Perry and Democratic Counterpart Prod Congress to Pass Bailout, Put Aside Partisanship."
