Just Ridiculous

Just Ridiculous

The New York Times has a story confirming from reliable sources that "dozens of British Special Forces soldiers, from the elite Special Air Service and Special Boat Service units, are on the ground across Libya." We are also now certain that "small groups of C.I.A. operatives have been working in Libya for several weeks as part of a shadow force of Westerners…" The Times calls this a "clandestine war," but it's hardly clandestine any longer.

It's ridiculous that the executive arms of the British and U.S. governments (led by Cameron and Obama) can make war in this way while lying to the public, while using public funds to do so without authorization, while never declaring war, while conducting aggressions against another country, while helping out mostly nameless rebels whose ranks harbor Al-Qaeda components, while seeking to control the oil present in eastern Libya, while trying to overthrow Gaddafi and lying about that, while rationalizing the whole thing on the basis of potential massacres, and while conducting air raids that surely have already taken the lives of innocent Libyans. The whole thing is preposterous! And it is equally preposterous that there has not yet arisen in these two countries a severe reaction from the other government branches and from the press and the public. Obama should be impeached for this. Of course, many of us said the same of Bush. This is the theater of the absurd brought to real life.
