National interest was not regarded in Reko Dik Project: CJ

Islamabad: Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday remarked that neither laws nor guidelines existed for strategic areas of the country.

The remarks came during the hearing of Reko Diq case. . A three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case.

The court directed companies exploring for reserves in the region to provide their details to the court.
Khalid Anwar, the counsel of Tethyan Copper Company informed the court that the military was briefed about the agreement and they had no objection over the deal. He said over 20 private companies operating in Chagi region.

Director General mineral development in his statement said gold can be find in Reko Dig gold and copper reservoirs at 20 feet depth.
The apex court directed the Deputy Attorney General to consult defence institutions on the contract in light of national security
Abdul Hafeez Peerzada layer for the BHP exploring company told court that the joint agreement of Reko Diq case was sign in 1993 following the consent of then Balochistan chief minister.
