Podcast interview re Presidential Dictatorship w/ Bruce Ackerman

Posted this morning at Electric Politics, a podcast interview with
Yale Law School professor Bruce Ackerman, author of The Decline and
Fall of the American Republic (Harvard University Press, October
2010).

According to Bruce, who is perhaps the most widely cited legal scholar
in the country, the American presidency contains within itself the
potential to be truly dangerous. He says that without significant
structural reform of the institution of the presidency there is a
20-25% chance that within several decades the presidency will devolve
into a dictatorship.

Two things are especially worth noting about Bruce's prognosis. One,
such warnings have not percolated, at all, into the mainstream media.
And, two, because he believes (probably correctly) that it is
impossible nowadays to amend the Constitution in important respects
through its Article Five process, Bruce concentrates entirely on non-
amendment structural reforms.

If you agree that the Constitution should be changed but don't believe
it can be, there's still reason for hope. In any case, it doesn't hurt
to talk about our options.
