Will you 'friend' the new Islamic Facebook?

After outrage among Muslims over a Facebook page that invited users to draw the Prophet Mohammed, a 25-year-old Pakistani man has launched Millatfacebook.com, the Islamic answer to the ubiquitous social networking website.

"We requested Facebook to remove the offending pages but they did not even bother to reply," the company's CEO Omer Zaheer Meertold told the HinduStan Times.

Millatfacebook bears an obvious resemblance to its namesake. A green top banner replaces Facebook's blue one, you can post messages on your friend's wall, and even invite people to your next birthday party.

The Islamic social networking site was spawned after a Pakistani court banned Facebook in the country for not removing the page entitled "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!"

Millatfacebook boasts thousands of members and invites "people of all religions and faiths, to come together and make a network."

Not to be outdone by Farmville, Millatfacebook has games like Candy Frenzy and Zombie Shooter. There are also music videos and personal photos, but the site is not without its anti-West propaganda.

"All Muslims must get to gather(sic) and we easily can remove Bloody Israel from the map of the World !" reads a post by the user Paiman.

Another post urges members to unite and defeat the "Zionist-owned" Facebook.

User videos also praise Allah and the supremacy of Pakistan's military.

The site's creator maintains its neutrality.

"People from all faiths are welcome to come and interact with one another and understand Muslims," Meer said. The site is meant "to provide a platform to decent people of different faiths to come in harmony."
