The War on Women

One of the terrible things about our individualistic system of medicine is the selfish idea that breasts are private property as opposed to public resources.

We need to mandate radical mastectomy for women with a family history of breast cancer, to save lives and to save health care dollars.

Where scorp goes wrong in my opinion is that for some reason they think that the benefits being offered ( in this case, health insurance) is something they are owed by birthright or something. No employer I have ever heard of wants to deprive their female employees of any sort of health care, it seems to me that they are in charge of what coverage they feel like providing, they are not stopping from getting the care, they just don't feel obligated to provide it for some reason, but it should be their choice. If you want it go get it, they aren't stopping you, only you are stopping you. In the case of religious orgs they feel it's against their religion to provide those services so it should not surprise anyone that they are not willing to pay for the service. Again, I ask you, why, simply by virtue of offering you a job that pays a salary you agree too, makes me obligated to provide you with anything beyond the salary we agree to pay you. The rest should all be considered gravy. Why can't you simply consider the benefit pkg, just a benefit not mandatory compensation. Next there will be a federal mandated compensation pkg.....OOps there already is. The question is WHY.

Are you serious?  Why would you equate social conservatives with republicans in general?  I know quite a few repubs who are choicers.  Further, there is that little thingy that the Govt. has NO bidnez in health care.

Jim you make a joke about it, but this is a serious matter. This affects republican women as much as democrats. If you have daughters, grand daughters, nieces, that are of child bearing age, this should be important to you too. Aside of women of child bearing age, there's that little matter of Breast Cancer. Why do republicans try to make it harder for women to get adequate Health Care.  It seems they want women to stay barefoot and pregnant and always be dependent upon a man. They are ALWAYS sticking their nose into women's health issues in a negative way. I raised my daughter to be dependent upon herself. Thank God she doesn't work for some religious organization that wants to enforce their belief that women shouldn't have access to health insurance that provides contraception and mammogram's.

It's hard to believe that we are in the 21st century and men can still treat women this way.   Neanderthals didn't bury their women.   They just threw dead women out into the forest.   It's still happening.   Thanks for a great article, Scorp.

Stop the Republican War on Women

Redefining rape. Attacking the right to choose. Belitting victims of violence. The Republicans are on a rampage attacking women's health and rights this year. And if we don't speak up, they'll keep going. That's why we need to raise a ruckus, and get the word out about the GOP war on women.
Top 10 Shocking Attacks from the GOP's War on Women
1) Republicans not only want to reduce women's access to abortion care, they're actually trying to redefine rape. After a major backlash, they promised to stop. But they haven't yet. Shocker.
2) A state legislator in Georgia wants to change the legal term for victims of rape, stalking, and domestic violence to "accuser." But victims of other less gendered crimes, like burglary, would remain "victims."
3) In South Dakota, Republicans proposed a bill that could make it legal to murder a doctor who provides abortion care. (Yep, for real.)
4) Republicans want to cut nearly a billion dollars of food and other aid to low-income pregnant women, mothers, babies, and kids.
5) In Congress, Republicans have a bill that would let hospitals allow a woman to die rather than perform an abortion necessary to save her life.
6) Maryland Republicans ended all county money for a low-income kids' preschool program. Why? No need, they said. Women should really be home with the kids, not out working.
7) And at the federal level, Republicans want to cut that same program, Head Start, by $1 billion. That means over 200,000 kids could lose their spots in preschool.
8) Two-thirds of the elderly poor are women, and Republicans are taking aim at them too. A spending bill would cut funding for employment services, meals, and housing for senior citizens.
9)Congress just voted for a Republican amendment to cut all federal funding from Planned Parenthood health centers, one of the most trusted providers of basic health care and family planning in our country.
10) And if that wasn't enough, Republicans are pushing to eliminate all funds for the only federal family planning program. (For humans. But Republican Dan Burton has a bill to provide contraception for wild horses. You can't make this stuff up).
