Please find below a selection of my latest articles. It has been a relatively long time since my last message and I hope it's not presumptuous of me to assume that the wait has been agonizing.
Below you will find excerpts from my most recent articles, which includes a profile of the American Ambassador to the Czech Republic (a law school classmate of President Barack Obama), who is, I argue, "bolstering the forces of liberalism" in this country. There are also two of my most recent columns for Ha'aretz, where I have recently begun writing a monthly column. And, finally, there is a piece for The Weekly Standard about the recent assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist.

1) "Advocate," Tablet, January 19, 2012 One day last August, a mid-level bureaucrat in the Education Ministry of the Czech Republic hand-delivered a complaint to the American Embassy in Prague. Ladislav Bátora styled himself a latter-day Martin Luther, but the target of his anger wasn't the Catholic hierarchy but a Jewish American named Norman Eisen. Eisen, the U.S. ambassador, had signed an open letter supporting the first-ever gay pride parade to be held in the Czech capital—and Bátora was angry.

2) "A Case of Leftist 'McCarthyism?" Ha'aretz, January 13, 2012
One of the most notorious newspapers ever published in America was The Spotlight, founded in 1975 by white supremacist Willis Carto. For many years the country's premier hate rag, it peaked at 330,000 subscribers in the early '80s. Alongside support for South African apartheid and exposes of the Bilderberg group, the paper was a regular purveyor of Holocaust denial, with stories like "Jewish Groups Can't Defend Position on '6 Million' Debate" and "Anne Frank Fable Losing Credibility; Establishment Continues to Push 'Diary' as 'True Story.'"

3) "No to a 'Grand Bargain' with Iran," Ha'aretz, February 10, 2012 What if the increasing hostility between Iran and the West is just a giant misunderstanding? What if, far from being the result of deep ideological disputes and inherently incompatible worldviews, the rift between Tehran and Washington is reconcilable? As an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities appears increasingly likely, we are once again hearing about the possibility of a full and unconditional rapprochement between Washington and Tehran. Not merely a toning down of rhetoric and assurances against the use of force, but a full-scale diplomatic realignment the likes of which haven't been seen since Richard Nixon's 1972 visit to China.

On January 11 in Tehran, two men on a motorcycle attached a magnetic bomb to the car carrying Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan. Seconds later, the car exploded, killing both Roshan and his driver. The murder was the stuff of spy novels, and would have been a spectacular story regardless of the target. But Roshan was not just any victim of a daring hit job: He was an Iranian nuclear scientist, the fourth to be assassinated in the past two years. Far from being an isolated incident, his death was clearly part of a trend.
