Subject: RE: Bad Breath

Assalamualaikum Hassan Bhai

Thank you for this email. If you give me permission I  would like to contribute suggestions that may assist with bleeding gums and bad breath.

Im not going to suggest any medication as I feel that would go against the principles of  thibbe nabwi advice since such medications will be all  synthetic.

However my method  is very simple.

In the morning rinse your tooth brush and do not apply any tooth paste on it  and dig the bristles of the tooth brush between the teeth and flick away  any food debris. the other alternative is to use dental floss as this well certainly remove any  stubborn food particles. Many will complain that their gums bleed when using a floss. This suggests that  Gingivitis ( gum inflammation) has  been present for quite a while.

using the same "dry  tooth brush"  continue to brush the surfaces of all teeth as you normally would. Do NOT  use any toothpaste at this stage since the idea of using a "dry tooth brush" is that you can remove more plaque off the surface of your teeth then a tooth brush with toothpaste on it.  You will notice this with the stained saliva as you spit out .

After this first stage of cleaning with a dry tooth brush  you may use your preferred tooth paste and brush your teeth as normal ( wet tooth brush) .

Once you are done with the second brushing with "wet tooth brush" then mix a ¼ tsp of salt and ¼ tsp bircarbonate of soda in a glass of warm water to gargle and rinse the mouth thoroughly. You will feel that your teeth had just received a new "make over". It is hoped Inshallah that this solution will accelerate the healing of bleeding gums.

Another reason why people experience bad  breath is when they have restorations in their mouths  like crowns, bridges  fillings  and sometimes cavities where food particles become  trapped between them. For example when there is a "gap" between a  crown and the margin of a tooth or between a bridge and the gum and food gets stuck in there , if it is not cleaned routinely, it will ferment and thus giving rise to bad mouth odours.

Such occurrences are  caused by poor workmanship of dentists in placing these restorations in their patients mouths. We see this all the time and we have to correct these errors. Sometimes it is difficult for patients to clean these areas where food is trapped and requires physical intervention in removing debris with a dental instrument.

When people brush their teeth immediately , it takes roughly about 20 mins for plaque to come and rest against their teeth. This is a natural occurrence. It is reported and documented in many international dental journals  that the use of the Miswaak delays the onset of this build up of plaque for atleast 50- 60 mins. This is quite phenomenal in dental terms . many tooth paste companies are now extracting the oils from the miswaak trees and making tooth paste from it .

Ideally it is preferred to brush after each meal. If not then atleast 2x a day (morning and before bed time).

It has also been suggested in some medical and dental journals that poor oral hygiene is linked to coronary heart diseases , GIRD , memory loss and a number of other symptoms. So it is advisable to keep good oral hygiene .and yes this might sound like boring old Mantra but do visit your dentist atleast every 6 months

I trust this helps- inshallah

Subject: Bad Breath

Assalam O Alaikum,

Major causes of bad breath are Gum infections & Bacteria on the Tongue, you will be surprised that there are around 600 types of Bacteria which are found in a human's mouth. The worst case is when the PUS from your infected gums goes inside your stomach with the saliva & the digestion is totally disturbed. Yes, bleeding gums are the major factor behind your bad breath. In addition, we feel that you are also suffering with sensitive teeth, hot & cold water, ice-creams, etc. creating pain in your gums.

Many people will never have bleeding gums, but the infection & PUS are there, & they will also have a bad breath.

We fix this problem with formula "BDS", the toothpowder which repairs the infected gums, kills the Tongue Bacteria, stops blood from the gums & eliminates hot / cold sensation, the trick with this powder is that after brushing, you have to wait for 20 minutes before rinsing your mouth. And if you can manage, the best in your case is to apply "BDS" before going to bed, spit out the froth as much as possible & sleep without rinsing the mouth, wash in the morning.

And your stomach's behavior (damaged by PUS) will be fixed by formula "GI" Insha'Allah, take a tablespoon after breakfast & dinner. And if you have developed Bacteria in the gut, it is compulsory to take Henna water with a tablespoon of Frankincense at an empty stomach.

The combination of "BDS" and "GI" will also improve the sense of taste (because of cleaning the taste buds) and will also stimulate the secretion of digestive enzymes.

Try to adopt those foods that never spoil in your stomach, for which you have the best guidance from Tibb-e-Nabawi.
