I wish it were as you write Rory....Unfortunately, the fact is, that Islam is not a peaceful religion. No question, there are a lot of fine folks who are of the Islamic faith. Just as you and I, if these individuals who we consider to be, "moderate" Muslims do not follow the dictates of Sharia to the tee, then they too are considered to be infidels by those who are in control of Islam, and who demand a return to Dar-al-Islam.
Of course, I am simplifying here.....I have written extensively about the dangers of Islam here in Political Forum, and you can access some of the Blogs that I have written, which are well researched and containd empirical data to support my conclusions, here by doing a search on our home page of Political Forum. The point being, is that here in the United States, we have made a determination that certain laws must remain intact, and cannnot be violated in the name of religion. For instance, we don't allow folks to engage in illicit drugs such as marijuana, acid, mushrooms, or peyote in order to see their God more clearly, in the name of religion. We don't allow for the proverbial vestal virgin to be sacraficed at the alter in the name of a God or a religion here in the United States.
We nevertheless will allow for Muslims to beat their women, to the point of murder, own them, treat them as chattel, apply 12th century standards; (e.g.; "an eye for an eye" ) to familial transgressions; all under the name of Mohammad and Sharia.
unlike Christianity and Judaism, which have reformed countless times, Islam has never reformed. The newest of alll Western Religions, Islam was once at the forefront of leading edge technology......Back in the 11th and 12th Centuries. There are those who are now in control of the Islamic movement throughout the world, who want to see a return of Dar-al-Islam to the world, and make no mistake, under Sharia, (which is a concept that is very difficult for all in the West to understand, it is all encompassing, from what you wear, eat, drink, watch on television, interact with, your laws, your personal hygiene, etc.) you, and all of us who do not accept Mohammad, the pedophile as our Prophet, we will first be taxed. If taxation does not encourage us to accept Mohammad the axe murderer as our prophet, then we will eventually die a horrible, bloody death.
I don't make this up. This is what is written in the Suras of the Q'uoran, in particular those Suras that were written in Medina.
No Rory, I encourage you to take a look at Islam and what it stands for. Right now, Islam should be outawed in the United States, as it is incompatible with Western values, until such time as it reforms.

Wee as a nation talk a lot about the Muslim this and that well the
true Muslim religion and people is a peaceful one and one of the only
people and religion to accept any color and any race as long as your
Muslim. Now they are one of the oldest races in the world so if they
can do this why can't we. Even when it comes to language they all
have a common one Arabic. Now how can we as a people who are apart of
the greatest nation in the world be shown up by this.
To survive we must come together forget the pass and forget our color
and race and speak in one voice saying Give Back Our Country for we
are now together. If we can do this we can take back what our
forefather started and once again be truly free.
