Left Renews Calls for "Fairness Doctrine" in Wake of Cogresswoman Giffords' ShootingScotty Starnes | January 11, 2011 at 1:15 PM | Tags: 9/11 truther, Conservative, Fairness Doctrine, FCC, first amendment, Glenn Beck, hate speech, Hitler, James Clyburn (D-SC), Jared Loughner, Karl Marx, net-neutrality, Oklahoma City bombing, President Bush, President Clinton, Rep. Democrat Congressman James Clyburn never fails to disappoint. In the wake of the shooting of Congresswoman Giffords by a disgruntled constituent we have the left following the playbook to the letter.
First were the over the top assurances that the shooter, deranged Jared Loughner, was an angry conservative, Tea Party follower, Beck loving, Limbaugh listening, Palinite. Then FACTS emerged and we find Loughner believes Bush was behind 9/11, that the Mars Rover is a hoax, that Hitler and Marx's published works are among his favorites, that skulls are for shrine-making, and shooting his Congressional representative and 19 other folks is a good way to get some attention. He was dead on right about the last one - the gaining attention part.
Now we move to Sage II. This is where the usual suspects call conservative speech "hate speech" and "vitriol" and a danger to the Republic. We've seen this before as well. After the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 none less than President Clinton blamed conservative talk radio, at that time meaning Limbaugh almost exclusively, for the event, in spite of the fact that McVey later admitted he was angry about Waco and Ruby Ridge and was retaliating. So it seems McVey's bombing had nothing to do with conservatism by his own admission.
Stage III is where we stand today. Now we hear Congressman Clyburn's call for a return of the Fairness Doctrine. Clearly this is his linking conservative political speech and dissemination with the FCC and need to "regulate" said conservatives and their "hate speech" and "vitriol."
Not to be forgotten Clyburn's daughter is a member of the board of FCC commissioners, who voted recently for net neutrality. She is the source of the quote about "every nappy headed child" having free internet access. What a grand way to make sure his daughter is more powerful and famous, thus translating to more riches later by sitting on boards of directors and making speeches...just saying.
