Yes, the 92-year old Robert Byrd (D-WV) finally kicked the bucket today. The only member of the Ku Klux Klan to ever hold office, Byrd was open about his racism during the Civil Rights era. Not to forget his love to have things named after himself.
Today, during the Elena Kagan hearings, Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) praised Robert Byrd as if the man was a saint. Leahy also made a reference to Byrd carrying a copy of the Constitution with him and how he knew every word in it. Leahy is a progressive and progressives love to use revisionist history.
Byrd didn't believe black Americans deserved the rights put forth by the U.S. Constitution. Democrats forget to mention that Byrd filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act or that he was the only Senator that voted against both Supreme Court nominees, liberal Thurgood Marshall and conservative Clarence Thomas. How about Byrd's "white nigger" comments back in 2001.
So to all those Democrats who think like Robert Byrd, I'm sure you all are flying your white sheets at half-staff today in honor of a such a fine, outstanding Democrat who loved the U.S. Constitution. The Democrats were founded on a pro-slavery platform and gave us segregation and the KKK. Plus, we must never forget that these same Democrats voted against every single piece of civil rights legislation in history.
So, remember this points of interests when you hear these Democrats praise Byrd.
