Re: Nat Hentoff on the Ground Zero Mosque

Annointed One.....

I guess you are unaware of who Sean Hannity is and why I mistook you
for one of his possible followers
http://www.hannity.com/
Sean is a TV and Radio talk show host and Conservative pundit
personality here in the U.S., works for WABC radio, although now his
radio broadcasts are probably franchised, as well as for Fox News....
both Right-Wing Conservative media outlets and corporations. Anyway,
Sean Hannity has taken to referring to U.S. President Barack Obama
as ... the "Annointed One"... just like your own screen name.
So, I assumed from your screen name as well as from the general
"Conservative" tone of the post that you wrote, above, that you were
one of Sean Hannity's right-wing-nut followers.
I regret the error, but not for the tenor my reply to your own rather
conservative views.

As to your observations on languages , etc. I tend to agree with you.
Personally English is my second of two... with a smattering of a
third..... languages. I understand well the nuances of notions or
ideas losing something in the translation. But I think that you are
also "overstating" the problem.... whatever the language... as a
proponent of a "nominalist" approach to learning or philosophy or
"epistemology". I think that words are only the vehicles (Signs) of
Concepts or References which are. themselves (i.e., concepts and
references) the actual components of thought or human
understanding.... language, in this sense, can become as much of a
hindrance as an aid to communication between people... irrespective of
what the common language of communication may be....

My own study and knowledge of the possible "different choices" in
"Epistemology" Ontology" and "Ethics/Morals " as well as my own
evaluation and taken decision to prefer "Nominalism" over the rest
(i.e., over Idealism, Realism and Phenomenology as the other broad
avenues) is what I think allows me better ( in the sense of more
discerning) insight than perhaps most others who either did not
consider such issues... or perhaps chose mistakenly among them.....
All in my own opinion, of course.....
