One thing progressives have not come to grips with is that the most corrupting aspect of money in politics is that Congresspeeps pass laws to make their own land and stock holdings appreciate rapidly, and they also race on insider information about what regulations they are about to enact.
As a result liberal Democrats as wells Republicans are constantly writing laws that enrich themselves from Feid and Pelosi on down
This then makes them multi millionaires so that they can self finance if needed and no challenger can dislodge an incumbent.
Because of that additional benefit of incumbency, unregulated campaign donations to non-incumbents is a very good thing.
If you wanted to make accepting radical campaign donation limits a condition of employment for incumbents, that would be more acceptable.
