We may blame the Americans for unprovoked aggression and state terrorism, but we must understand that such aggression is committed only against those who are weak and have no legs to stand on. Be it 2nd May or 26th Oct, we showed a total lack of ability to defend ourselves.  The US helicopters hovered about over our check post for over two hours, some say 5 - 6 hours, with no response, killing and slaughtering at will without let or hindrance,  then whose fault is it? Public statements and show of bravado on media, for what? Recently we heard that the PAF could not be contacted b'cuz of some communication problem. Imagine, a nuclear armed state with a nuclear armed arch foe only three minutes of missile flying time away, has such an inept internal defense communication system that it could not activate its air defenses for over two hours, and the air force could not respond, just imagine!! What is then the role of the Joint Chiefs headquarter? Who looks after the military operations and inter-service coordination in case of hostilities? All of them slept through the night. Then who should we be blaming, the US?

In the case of the last two wars with India we heard the same thing, the other two services were unaware of the outbreak of hostilities, and it was then that Joint Chiefs was created where the three services were brought together to work out the modalities of their joint working. With us now a nuclear armed state, and having been so for over 10 years, and in the eye of the storm that the present war on terror has placed us in, we still have not grown up to handle the response to attack capability which is needed in our case, not even after having been caught with our pants down on 2nd May. I think we should look inwards to identify our failures and incompetences and do something about them than blame others for it. The world does not owe us a living. "The fault dear Brutus does not lie in our stars, but in ourselves that we find our selves such dishonourable graves".

We have elected a so called democratic government of such monstrous incompetence and moral duplicity that has disgraced us and itself the world over. Its president is the supreme commander of our armed forces. Has anyone ever seen him pick up the guts as a man or show the the remotest sense of responsibility or commitment as a president to visit the fighting troops on the front lines who have suffered and lost so much since this war was imposed on us. We are facing a crisis of leadership, both at the civilian and the military level. No wonder a US National Security official said recently that Pakistan was heading for a national disaster. 

This is a moment of reflection and self appraisal as people of Pakistan. What we face is our own doing, and we have now an opportunity for course correction. We are the owners of this country and its destiny, and we are responsible for the directions that we define for it and its future, and the kind of leadership we put in place to carry that mission. Let us not miss this opportunity and take our destiny in our own hands and not leave it in the hands of these morally bankrupt people. Let us swear to that and to our children. Let us swear to Pakistan. Let us swear to the soul of Mohammad Ali Jinah.

Lawyers and Bar Associations announced not to attend the courts on Monday the 28^th  as a protest against the NATO attack killing Pak Army soldiers and officers on a border check post. While gratefully appreciating their this kind gesture of siding and standing with the army on this matter, I think such protestations should not be resorted to by closing the markets, keeping the public transport off roads, striking work at the factories and not attending the offices and courts. Such a practice apart from causing a loss of billions to the national economy also presents many with undue and untold miseries and sufferings. A wretched litigant walking for miles from a rural area is utterly dismayed to find his lawyer not attending the court, or someone's crucial bail could not be arranged in time to attend the funeral of his near and dear one!  A life is lost as it could not be taken to the hospital due to the transport strike, etc. To spare the public of such agony and at the same time show solidarity with a cause, I think, the protestors could do their normal work and yet show their protest by wearing a black arm band, or displaying other visible signs, placards, banners, etc. By doing so millions and millions of productive man hours will be saved and the purpose of the protestation also achieved.
