Imam-e-Haram Dr. Abdul Rahman As-Sudais went to the biggest Asian Islamic University Darul Uloom Deoband yesterday 25/03/2011 and led Namaz-e-Juma at Masjid-e-Rashid.
About 10 Lakhs of Muslims from different parts of the country thronged the prestigious Darul-Uloom seminary in Deoband to participate in the Friday prayer led by the Imam of the Masjid-e-Haram in Makkah.
The campus of Darul Uloom Deoband which is spread in more than 2 KM was full of namazees. All roads leading to the world-famous Islamic seminary were packed with people and when it came to offering the 'namaz', people joined the ritual in every nook and corner of the town, including streets, parks, rooftops and even highways on the outskirts.
In an hour-long 'khutba' (sermon), the Imam-e-Haram praised the Darul Uloom Deoband for its rich contribution to Islam. He also made a fervent appeal to all for observing peace and harmony, which he described as the "true essence of Islam".
Mufi Abul Qasim Nomani Banarsi (Acting Rector of Darul Uloom Deoband) read and gave away the Sipasnama to Imam-e-Haram Dr. Abdul Rahman As-Sudais, in which the stand of Ulama of Darul Uloom Deoband was clarified.
Dr As-Sudais is visiting India on the invitation of Jamiatul Ulema-e-Hind. This is his first visit to India. He was very much glad and satisfied seeing such a large gathering in Darul Uloom Deoband.
As per program Imam-e-Haram was supposed to go to the guest house of Darul Uloom Deoband to take his lunch after the Juma prayer, but due to the large gathering he reached there after great difficulty and could not get out of the car and returned without taking lunch.
