Rant: WaPo Misses Boat On Media Stories - 3/9 -
Even though the Washington Post had a Paul Farhi-authored piece on its website yesterday afternoon, I could not find anything in my print Washington Post this morning on that NPR exec who slammed conservatives in a sting from a bunch of righty activists posing as represenatives of a Muslim education fund. The Post's web piece attracted more than 600 comments as of early Wednesday, but the Huffington Post's piece had more than 3,700. You've got to wonder if the Post is missing the boat on a number of media stories lately. Why not put the NPR sting story in the print paper? And, why, last week, so little coverage - two sentences in a gossip column - about the stormy resignation of the morning host of a major DC radio station, WMAL, after allegations of pressure from Islamic groups. On Tony Kornheiser's WTEM radio show earlier this week, a discussion about corruption charges regarding DC's mayor soon turned to the topic of why so many DC political stories are now broken by City Paper and other local media outlets that are not the Washington Post. Maybe something for that new Post ombudsman to ponder. More Rants. Update: I'm told that the print Post did run the NPR piece on page A2 in later Wednesday editions, but not in the edition delivered to western Fairfax County.....
Mrs. Fred On Hubby's MAL Resignation - 3/8 - Catherine Mann, aka "Mrs. Fred," presents her side at dailycaller.com. Her husband, morning show host Fred Grandy, resigned from Citadel news talker WMAL last week after he was told by management to take his wife off the show. In her Friday appearances she often talked about radical Muslim topics. In her piece, Mann refers to her "dismissal" even though she was not an employee of the station. WMAL has since changed the name of the show from "The Grandy Group" to "The Morning Majority." Update: We're told that, while Mann was not an employee of WMAL, she did receive payments from the station for her appearances.....
Hayworth Replaces Grandy This Week On 630 - 3/7 - Former Arizona Representative JD Hayworth will be filling-in for the departed Fred Grandy all week on Citadel news talker WMAL (630 AM). As you've probably heard, Grandy resigned last week after station management asked him to take his wife, who appeared each Friday to trumpet anti-radical Muslim causes - including her claim regarding the alleged expansion of Shariah Law across the USA - off his morning show. He refused - and quit. Bryan Nehman will continue to co-host as the station seeks a permanent replacement for Grandy.....
