Myanmar President’s Haughty Remarks!

Myanmar President's Haughty Remarks!

Amounting to ignore the global conscience

Putting aside history and science!

All praises go to Allah Pak!

Endless Dwurood and Salaam for Saiyidul Mursalin, Imaamul Mursalin, Khatamun Nabiyin,

Noor-e-Mujassam, Habeebullah, Huzur Pak Swallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam!

Bangladesh and the rest of the world's conscience have been shaken by the statement of President Thein Sein - Head of the State of a military-controlled Myanmar. Ignoring all norms, courtesy, civility and historical truth, his arrogant remarks were, 'we take the responsibility of our people but no more will it be possible to accept the Rohingya Muslims who are anthropologically not our people and are infiltrators'.

President Thein Sein believes that, 'anthropologically, Rohingya people are not the residents of Myanmar. They are illegal trespassers and therefore, do not have the rights to stay at Myanmar. Rather Myanmar is considering dispatching the Rohingya Muslims to any other land. If some country is willing to take them, they would be sent right there. But in no case, would they be allowed to infiltrate in to or reside at Myanmar'.  This has been claimed to be the only solution to Rohingya crisis. UNHCR Chief, on the other hand, stated that, 'Myanmar should recognize the citizenship rights of the Rohingya Muslims and that it should bring back all the Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh and all other countries that they are living in'. Myanmar President denied the proposal though.

It may be noted that Myanmar President spoke like those military juntas. He whipped the historical truth and details as well. He distorted history besides delivering erroneous explanations because Muslim habitats in Rakhain region or Arakan date back to a thousand years. Arakan used to be popularly known as 'Roshang' regime. Numerous evidences in this connection are available in the middle-ages Bangla literature. Practically, Roshang was developed on the basis of traditions and religious values of the Bengali Muslims. With the collapse of the capital Goura in the 15th century, the Roshang Royal Court of Arakan became the epicenter of the Bangla literature. Evidences in this regard are available in the writings of the 17th century poets and litterateurs like Doulat Kazi, Alaol, Mordon and Nasullah Khan etc. That means the Rohingya Muslims did not appear at Rakhain province or Arakan all on a sudden.  They have been living there for a thousand years. Moreover, as Myanmar residents, they had cast their votes in many of the regional or national elections in the recent years. Rohingya have been paying the taxes and tolls to the government for many years also.

Rohingya Muslims do not become 'illegal trespassers' by the mere sayings of President Thein Sein. Muslim Arakanese or Rohingya are indigenous to Arakan. Having genealogical linkup with the people of Wesali or Vesali kingdom of Arakan, the Rohingya of today are a perfect example of its ancient inhabitants. Even through anthropological analysis, Rohingya Muslims have been recognized as the indigenous people of the region. But the sad fact is, throughout ages, they have been cruelly suppressed and repressed by the ruling class of Myanmar or Burma and others like the Mogh and other tribes. Even in 1942, with the culture of anarchy growing to its climax, there was a huge bloodbath of Rohingyas in all over Arakan, particularly in Akyab, Rasidong, Kaktha, Mabra, Mynbia, Punajoy etc. To the Rohingyas, it is still remembered as the Karbalae Arakan (the doomsday in Arakan). Ever since, there have been more organized efforts in 1978, 1992-93 to commit massacre on the Rohingya of Arakan resulting in the displacement of the Rohingya population all over the world. That trend of oppression continues till today. The vital cause of all these is that they are Muslims. If observed, it would be found that being a State Head of a modern age, Thein Sein had expressed that same anti-Muslim stance. Its not that the Rohingya are not snub-nosed but that they are Muslims!

It is learnt from History that Arakan or the Rakhain province is one of those few old locations where Muslim habitation grew in the very early stage in the whole of this sub-continent and the south East Asia. Rohingyas are the descendants of those Arakanese Muslims. Once there was an independent Muslim rule established in Arakan in 1430 which lasted for more than 200 years. From 1631 to 1635, there was terrible famine in Arakan after which the Muslim rule was lost from there. In 1660, tragic massacre of the Mughal prince Shah Suja and his entire family by the Arakanese king Sandathudamma took place. Further repressions on the Muslims began immediate after that and the ordeal continued for almost 350 years. In 1780, Arakan was seized by the Burmese King Bodhapa, a staunch enemy of Islam and indiscriminate Muslim massacres began. The situation only changed a little after it was taken over by the British in 1828. But with the autonomy of Burma in 1937, communal riots took a dangerous turn which claimed at least 30,00,000 Muslims martyrs.

Burma became independent in 1948 but the Muslim lot never changed. The new independent government never recognized them as citizens nor was any human rights accorded. On the face of continued repressions and evictions, large number of Rohingya were forced to seek refuge in many places of the world including Bangladesh. These people are the 'stateless citizens' of the world. The citizenship charters that the government of that country formulated in 1982 spoke of three kinds of citizenship while none contained anything about the Rohingya people. They have been officially termed as 'residents' in that country but having no Constitutional or socio-economic rights. They are captives in one sense because they cannot move to other places of Myanmar without prior permissions.  An Arakan of Muslim majority was made minority by increasing the number of Rakhains there.

With this brief discussion of history it is evident that the haughty statement of the Myanmar president is a complete bogus. Even after a thousand years habitation, if the Rohingya do not become it's indigenous people then not only the very definition of 'indigenous' would be changed but also the 'genealogy'  as told by Myanmar president would also change.  In this case potential pressures on the Myanmar government has to be created through UNHCR and other international organizations and as a second largest Muslim nation, Bangladesh has to play a very strong diplomatic role. Muslims of Bangladesh historically are indebted to Arakan.  In the long span of history Arakanese Muslims had always been helpful to us. Besides, it has been stated in Hadis Shareef that,  "Muslims are  brothers to each other". So, being a Muslim majority country, a country that added 'Bismillahir Rwahmanir Rwahim' to it's Constitution, a country with Islam as it's state religion,  Bangladesh and it's population of 97% Muslims could never, from humanitarian and Islamic point of views, deny it's responsibilities toward the Rohingya Muslims in any way.

Basically, these feelings and responsibilities originate from Islamic conscience and wisdom. For that, righteous Sohbot (company) and Faiz and Tawajjuh (Showering of blessings) are required. It is only possible to gain that invaluable gift through the righteous company of Mujaddid of the age, the Imaam and Mujtahid of the century, the very Mujaddidu A'azwam 'Alaihis Salaam. May Allah Pak bestow upon us with those. (Aameen).
