WikiLeaks Cyberattacked After Exposing Creepy Government Spying System

by Scotty Starnes

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest it's the Obama regime doing this attack. They are using Google (close ties to Obama) to spy on us. They are using social media (Facebook, Twitter) to spy on us. They are using our cell phones to spy and record us. They are reading our emails without a warrant. They are using drones to spy on us. They are even spying on journalists and bloggers who use certain keywords.

The most "transparent" administration seems to hate transparency that exposes them.

From Reason:

What does it mean, when Wikileaks publishes a trove of documents hacked by Anonymous from the strategic intelligence firm Stratfor — a trove that apparently details a massive electronic spying system run by the U.S. government — and is then hit by a massive and sustained distributed denial of service attack that prevents journalists and people at large from examining the documents in question? I can't be the only person that finds that just a tad ... suggestive.

The best round-up of the story so far is at RT:

Former senior intelligence officials have created a detailed surveillance system more accurate than modern facial recognition technology — and have installed it across the US under the radar of most Americans, according to emails hacked by Anonymous.

Every few seconds, data picked up at surveillance points in major cities and landmarks across the United States are recorded digitally on the spot, then encrypted and instantaneously delivered to a fortified central database center at an undisclosed location to be aggregated with other intelligence. It's part of a program called TrapWire and it's the brainchild of the Abraxas, a Northern Virginia company staffed with elite from America's intelligence community. The employee roster at Arbaxas reads like a who's who of agents once with the Pentagon, CIA and other government entities according to their public LinkedIn profiles, and the corporation's ties are assumed to go deeper than even documented.

It's difficult to check on RT's report, though, because, as my old employerZDNet has it:

WikiLeaks is down. The site has been down for the last five days, during which it has been experiencing a massive Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.

This isn't the first time this has happened. Back in May, Wikileaks was also taken down by a DDoS attack. That one lasted four days, however, meaning this one has already gone on for longer, according to the site's Twitter account.

Got ink? FBI wants to learn what your tattoos mean

By Walter Pacheco

Gang members and terrorist groups beware

RLANDO — (MCT) The FBI wants your tattoos — more specifically, the meanings behind their inky black lines and colorful shapes — and it's asking local law enforcement agencies for help.

The FBI's Biometric Center of Excellence, which already collects tattoos and other identity markers in its massive database, sent a request July 13 to police agencies for information "related to any current databases containing tattoo/symbol images, their possible meanings, gang affiliations, terrorist groups or other criminal organizations."

Gang members and terrorist groups often share symbols among their followers as a way to easily identify one another and gauge member loyalty. Members of the Latin Kings, for example, illustrate their bodies with a crown, while members of the MS-13 gang usually tattoo "MS" on their skin. But other symbols are more cryptic.

FBI agents say combining their database with information gathered from tattoo databases at more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies could improve everyone's biometric-based crime-fighting and anti-terrorism efforts.

"Some of our database users have expressed a desire for (knowing) what tattoos may potentially mean," said Bill Casey, program director at the FBI's biometric center. "We are trying to learn the lay of the land and see if there are any databases out there agencies may want to share."

Central Florida law enforcement agencies routinely save in databases the digital images they take of tattoos and scars found on suspects, others under investigation or bodies that are discovered. Jails in Seminole and Lake counties also document such identity markers on all inmates.

None of the local agencies that do this, however, would talk with the Orlando Sentinel about the practice or the FBI's request to share and help interpret their databases.

The FBI's interest in broadening and deepening its tattoo database is part of the agency's larger project of collecting biometric information for its Next Generation Identification Program. That initiative, split into seven stages, also aims to expand the agency's collection of fingerprints, palm prints and iris scans, and to improve existing facial-recognition technology.

The agency hopes to deploy an improved, searchable database of tattoos, scars and birthmarks in 2014, agency records show.

Though the federal government emphasizes that its interest in tattoos is solely for investigative and informative purposes, some individuals are leery of the government tracking people's tattoos, especially because many symbols originally found in gang tattoos have been adopted by a broader segment of the public.

"I have a crown on my shoulder, but I'm not a member of the Latin Kings. The crown is a symbol for my mom, who was the queen in my life," said bartender Fernando Bonilla, 28, of Orlando. "I don't want a cop stopping me, taking a picture of my tattoo and sending it to the federal government."

Casey said that would not happen.

"People have to meet more than one particular criteria to be identified as a possible gang member, and having a tattoo that resembles a gang symbol is not enough," he said.

Eric Phillips, an FBI management-and-program analyst, said law enforcement's ability to properly decipher the iconography of tattoos would benefit certain civilians, too.

"The database could actually benefit the kid who gets a tattoo similar to a gang tattoo and lands in jail," Phillips said. "If a gang finds out that he's not really a member, it could be a very dangerous situation for that kid." He said tattoo identification and tracking could also help prisons and jails keep rival gangs separated.

Sailor Bill Johnson, a local tattoo artist and vice president of the National Tattoo Association, said he's not worried about the FBI asking local police and others about tattoos.

"You don't see a lot of (gang) tattoos getting done at local tattoo shops. Those are usually done by 'scratchers' who are not professionals," said Johnson, who has owned the Tattoo Time shop in Maitland since 1983. "If you're not breaking the law, then you shouldn't have to worry about anything."

Pitchfork-Wielding Farmers Rally Against a Birthday Party Fine in Virginia

by Sard

FOX News reported:

Pitchfork-wielding Virginia farmers rallied to support a woman who claims local officials came down on her for, among other things, hosting a children's birthday party on her spread.

Martha Boneta, owner of Liberty Farms in the northern village of Paris, was threatened with nearly $5,000 in fines when for selling produce and crafts and throwing unlicensed events, including a birthday party for her best friend's child. She told FoxNews.com she wasn't doing anything are farmers haven't done for generations, and at a recent zoning board meeting, her agrarian friends literally showed up with pitchforks to show their support.

"It's rather odd that I'm the only farmer in the county having these issues," Boneta said. "It's customary to do these things. It's done through on farms throughout Virginia to help farming and agriculture."

Boneta was told that she did not have the proper event permits for the party and other events including wine tastings, craft workshops, and pumpkin carving.

"Why I would need a permit for a pumpkin carving?" she said.

Boneta was also threatened with fines for selling produce and products not grown or made on the 70-acre farm in a small store she had on the property. But she said she already had a special license issued to her in 2011 that allowed her to run a "retail farm shop" where at the time, she made it clear that she intended to sell handspun yarns, crafts like birdhouses in addition to fresh vegetables, eggs, and herbs.

Democrat ad has Allen West assaulting women, kids and the old

by Dr. Eowyn

The Democrats have sunken to a new low, even for them.

An TV ad by a super PAC for Congressman Allen West's (R-FL) opponent, Democrat Patrick Murphy, depicts West punching an old woman, a young white woman, and a black family with kids.

Benny Johnson reports for The Blaze, August 9, 2012:

It is hard to think of an attack ad lower than the one essentially blaming Mitt Romney for a woman's death, but we may have just found one.

It's from Florida, and it depicts Allen West (R-FL) in a boxing ring with red gloves on. The cartoon-like video then shows West punching an old woman, a young lady and seemingly a family with children.  He also steals cash from the hands of the family and pockets it, all while laughing like a gremlin.

And the audio matches the video. The female announcer says in condescending tone as sound effects play in the background: "West has socked it to seniors. He's whacked women with his votes. He's mauled middle class families."

See for yourself:

West called the ad "reprehensible," saying it "shows a lack of regard for the issues plaguing our nation."

The American Sunrise PAC is responsible for the video.  The group was incidentally founded by the father of Congressman West's general election opponent, Democrat Patrick Murphy, who has funneled $250,000 into the PAC.

The group responsible for the West advertisement has disabled all comments and ratings on their video page.  The immense distaste for the ad may have pressured this move.  As Blaze reporter Jason Howerton noted: The video on YouTube currently has more than 12,000 views, with 252 "dislikes" and just 16 "likes."  The move is ironic since the group responsible for the ad claims to work for "thoughtful", "more open", "brighter future" in politics.
