Democrat Joe Manchin (WV): Obama and the EPA are out of Control

Democrat Joe Manchin (WV): Obama and the EPA are out of Control

Obama told everyone his energy policies. He wants to see energy prices "skyrocket" and will do so by bankrupting the coal industry. Listen to his words:

watch?v=HlTxGHn4sH4

watch?v=Hdi4onAQBWQ

These are Obama's own words. Funny how Democrats act so shocked when he follows through on his promise.

(CNSNews.com) - Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, the former governor of coal-producing West Virginia, is blasting the Obama administration for using the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate coal-fueled power plants out of business.

On Thursday, American Electric Power company announced that to comply with a series of EPA regulations, it will close five coal-fired plants -- three in West Virginia and one each in Ohio and Virginia -- at a net cost of 600 jobs.

American Electric Power is one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, delivering electricity to more than 5 million customers in 11 states.

"We have worked for months to develop a compliance plan that will mitigate the impact of these rules for our customers and preserve jobs, but because of the unrealistic compliance timelines in the EPA proposals, we will have to prematurely shut down nearly 25 percent of our current coal-fueled generating capacity, cut hundreds of good power plant jobs, and invest billions of dollars in capital to retire, retrofit and replace coal-fueled power plants," said AEP Chairman and CEO Michael G. Morris.

"The sudden increase in electricity rates and impacts on state economies will be significant at a time when people and states are still struggling," he added.

The plant closures in West Virginia alone will result in 242 lost jobs -- "and that's simply wrong," Manchin said:

"Let me be clear, it's decisions like the one made by AEP today that demonstrate the urgent need to rein in government agencies like the EPA, preventing them from overstepping their bounds and imposing regulations that not only cost us good American jobs, but hurt our economy.

"It is because of out-of-control agencies like the EPA as well as the need to protect American jobs that I sponsored the REINS Act -- a commonsense measure that will help protect and create jobs by reining in needless or burdensome regulations, and that will put responsibility back where it belongs – in the hands of the people who are elected to govern and lead this great nation," Manchin concluded.

Didn't Obama PROMISEto stop regulations that cost American jobs? Oh well, another promise with an expiration date.

During his campaign for president, Barack Obama admitted that "if somebody wants to build a coal fired plant, they can. It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

Obama's energy plan will bankrupt us all. How's that for hope and change?

Obama's exiting "great economic thinker," Austan Goolsbee: Fiscal Imbalance "hasn't gotten materially worse in the last two years"

Obama calls Goolsbee a "great economic thinker." Going by Goolsbee's record, he's an idiot from academia with no real world experience. Sounds like Obama Jr.

From The Hill:

The nation's overall fiscal imbalance "has not gotten materially worse in the last two years," President Obama's outgoing economic adviser said Friday.

Bankruptcies, foreclosures, poverty and food stamp usage are at all-time highs under Obama and his failed economic policies. Throw in the Dow dipping below 12,000, weak GDP numbers, lower consumer confidence and long-term unemployment that reached Great Depression levels and you see what Goolsbee is saying is bullshit.

Obama adviser Austan Goolsbee, who announced this week he was leaving the White House, defended the Obama administration's fiscal record in comments at the National Press Club.

The national debt has increased from $10.4 trillion to $14.3 trillion since Obama took office in 2009.

That is $2 trillion each year Obama has been in office. Another record of 'accomplishment' for Obama. Spending is at historic heights under the Chicago Jesus.

He said the biggest drivers of the debt have been known for a long time and did not change during Obama's years in office. He identified healthcare costs, the aging population and the Bush-era tax cuts, which Obama agreed to extend at the end of last year in a deal with congressional Republicans.

Everything is up under Obama: gas prices are up, food prices are up, energy prices are up and the deficit is up. This is the great Obama economic 'recovery.'

Goolsbee said the problem needs to be dealt with but that spending cuts should not impair investments in education, training and infrastructure.

Investments is liberal code for: Keep on spending.

Goolsbee argued that preserving such investments are more important than addressing the fiscal imbalance.

Spending more than you have is good economic theory? Only to a liberal mind such as Goolsbee and Obama.

"Those issues are long-standing and we should and must address them. But let us not forget, that that is not the No. 1 issue facing this country, we must deal with that issue, we must live within our means, but the No. 1 issue facing this country is that we grow," he said.

Goolsbee should have told Obama about how to live within his means. Too bad he is only saying this now that he is on his way out.

Fun with a Pocket Knife: How to Play Mumbley Peg

Every man should carry a pocketknife. It's handy for cutting open packages, severing twine, and, of course, eating an apple like a bad ass.

But it can also be a source of instant, anywhere entertainment. Because it's all you need to play the game of mumbley peg.

Never heard of the game? Don't worry. Today we'll give you the scoop on how to play this knife throwing pastime that was once popular among 19th century schoolboys, Wild West cowboys, and World War II soldiers. All you need to play mumbley peg is a friend, a couple of pocket knives, and a bit of skill. It's the perfect way to pass the time when hanging outside with your friends, relaxing around the fire on a camping trip, and bonding with your son.

The History of Mumbley Peg

Versions of mumbley peg (also known as mumblety-peg, mumblepeg, mumble-the-peg, mumbledepeg or mumble-de-peg) have been around as long as jackknives have been in the pockets of boys and men who had time to kill. The game gets its name from a stick driven into the ground by the winner of the game, which the loser must pull out of the ground with his teeth. Mumbley peg was an insanely popular schoolyard game in the 19th century among boys. It was right up there with marbles and jacks. In fact, Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer, Detective, mentions "mumbletypeg" as being a favorite game with the children at old Tom's school.

The game continued in popularity well into the first half of the 20th century. If you're an old timer who participated in Boy Scouts or went to summer camp, there's a chance you played a version of mumbley peg.

Mumbley peg wasn't just popular with boys. Men played the game, too. Cowboys would often circle around the campfire after a night of calf wrestling and play a few rounds of mumbley peg. Soldiers in both World Wars also passed the time throwing their knives in the ground.

The game waned in popularity starting in the 1970s as over-protective adults put a kibosh on the game at summer camps and as pocket knife-carrying became less prevalent among the male population.

How to Play Mumbley Peg

There are different variations of Mumbley Peg. One version involves two opponents who stand opposite from one another, feet shoulder-width apart. The first player takes his pocket knife and throws it at the ground, so that it sticks into the ground as close as possible to his own foot. The second player take his knife and does the same. The player who sticks his knife closest to his own foot wins. A player could automatically win if he purposely stuck his knife into his own foot. What can we say, this was a time before Xbox 360. Kids needed something do.

Mumbley Peg: American Boy's Book of Sport Edition

A much more complicated and, I think, more fun (i.e., less likely to end in a tetanus shot) version of Mumbley Peg can be found in the American Boy's Book of Sport, from 1896. Instead of trying to get the knife to stick as close to your foot as possible, the aim is simply to get the knife to stick in the ground. What makes this version tricky is that it involves progressively more difficult trick tosses. The first man to successfully perform all the trick tosses wins and gets to drive the mumbley peg into the ground with the handle of his pocket knife. The loser has to pull the mumbley peg out of the ground with his teeth. While mumbling curses at the winner, naturally.

In the American Boy's Book of Sport, there are 24 different trick tosses that must be performed correctly to win. Players take turns doing the throws. A player that completes a throw successfully can move on to the next. So it's possible to have one player breeze through all the throws while the other guy is still stuck on the first throw. Got the basic gist? On to the throws!

1. Hold your right fist with the back of your hand to the ground and with the blade of the knife pointing to the right, resting on top of the closed fingers. Like so:

The hand is swung to the right, up and over, in a semicircle, so that the knife falls point downward and sticks, or should stick, upright in the ground. Like this:

2. Same as the first toss, except done with the left hand.

3. Take the point of the blade between the first and second fingers of the right hand, and flip it with a jerk so that the knife turns once around in the air and strikes the point into the ground.

Throw #3

4. Same as #3, except done with the left hand.

5. Hold the knife as in the third and fourth positions, and bring the arm across the chest so that the knife-handle touches the left ear. Take hold of the right ear with the left hand like so:

How to hold the knife for throw #5

Flip the knife so that it turns once or twice in the air and strikes on its point in the earth.

6. Same as #5, except done with the left hand. Take hold of the left ear with the right hand.

7. Still holding the knife in the same manner, bring the handle up to the nose and flip it over through the air, so that it sticks in the ground.

Throw #7

8. Same as #7, except bring the handle up to the right eye before flipping it.

9. Same as #7, except bring the handle up to the left eye before flipping it.

10. Place the point of the blade on top of the head. Hold it in place with the forefinger, and with a downward push send it towards the earth, where it must stick with the point of the blade in the earth.

Throw #10

11-15. Hold the left hand with the fingers pointing up. Place the point of the knife on the tip of your thumb. Hold the knife in place with your right forefinger holding the handle like so:

With a downward motion with your right forefinger, throw the knife revolving through the air so that the knife point lands in the grass. Repeat this throw with the left index finger, the left middle finger, the left ring finger, and the left pinky.

16-20. Repeat what you did in throws 11-15, except reverse your hands.

21. Sit down with your knees up. Place the knife point on your right knee and hold it in place with your right forefinger. With a downward motion with your right forefinger, throw the knife revolving through the air so that the knife point lands in the grass.

22. Repeat with the left knee and left forefinger.

23. Hold the point of the blade between the first and second fingers and, holding the hand near the forehead, flip the knife back over the head, so that it sticks in the ground behind you. Like so:

Throw #23. Behind the back throw.

Basically, you're doing a behind the back toss. Very tricky.

24. "Ploughing the field." After the 23rd throw, leave the knife stuck in the ground. Then with the palm of the hand, strike the knife handle a smart blow that will send it revolving over the ground for a yard, more or less, and cause it to stick in the ground where it stops.

Ploughing the field

Winner gets mumbley peg bragging rights. Loser gets to chew on a stick.

Re: Keith In Köln, please explain Germany for us

Well said Keith....

I lived in Sweden and there are some similarities with Germany.  The racism in Sweden is often subtle because the Swedes like to be percieved as progressive and "tolerant".  Every time I needed assistance they assumed I was from the Middle East and was systematically treated like a second class  citizen even though i paid a huge amount in taxes (40% income alone).  Living in Europe has its advantages as you have pointed out but they come at a high cost and I too  had private insurance but was funneled into the public system for things such as an MRI and that took 5 months.  I do not know how much longer Sweden can sustain its economy where the taxes are so high, there is basically economic heterogeneity with minimal real and obtainable wealth.  Those with the most money are either from old money before the push for a true social deomcracy or damn clever/lucky to have a successful start up.  Any person who is a professional; lawyers, doctors, engineers etc-are paid less than American standards.

Unless someone has been in a culture or an environment speculation about the realities are best laid to rest because it is to complex and the percieved reality that many have about Europe (Sweden) are often wrong.  Many people are enamoured when I say  I lived there but they are shocked when I tell them what it was really like.

Guten Morgen From Köln Moe!

First, let me start out with a definition, of "Ignorance".   When I use the term "ignorance", or "ignorant" I am referring literally to the term, and mean uninformed,  unread,  misinformed,  uncultured,  unlearned,  etc.  I don't mean this term when utilized to be insulting or to be somehow a personal attack upon you, or anyone else.

First,  I won't get into my personal health care choices, other than to say that I pay for all of my health care here in Germany,  I am not covered by the German National Health care, and I can see relatively little to no distinction between costs here and costs in the United States.   If anything, I am paying a lot more because of the lousy exchange rates right now.

Second,  EVERYONE in Germany pays an exorbitant amount of taxes in Germany.  The pay here for professionals, for the most part, is far less than what we experience in the United States, and the costs are much higher.  A Judge here in Germany makes approximately €4,000.00 to
€6,000.00 a month, which is significantly lower than what a judge in the United States would expect.  Attorneys are across the board, most are below the American expectation, but there are a number of exceptions.

Public servants are paid like American Public Servants were paid prior to the latter part of the 1970s and 1980s; which is to say, significantly lower remuneration as compared to their privately employed counterparts.  The trade off, much like it used to be in the United States, is that they receive an excellent personal compensatory package;  e.g.;  good paid vacations,  good retirement;  a lot of paid days off;  free socialized medicine health care,  (which will kill them)  etc.

The distinction between the public service American counterparts, is that today, in the New Millennium, the Americans are paid usually higher than the private sector.  Thus you are seeing the backlash in America!  Americans are tired of seeing Public Servants making tremendous amounts of money,  dictating a very socialistic system,  then reaping great pension plans and retirement plans,  while at the same time, like you, advocating for higher taxes,  and that the burden of their lifestyle should be placed on the backs of the American private sector worker.

Third:  Unions do not have the same type of political power in Europe as in the United States.  I don't mean to say that Unions in Europe are powerless, far from it.  European Workers'  Unions are more focused on workers rights, and are far from the political machines that they are in the United States, and far from influencing political elections as they do in the U.S.

Fourth:  It is ignorant to claim that there is less racism, bigotry or discrimination in Germany, or any other European Union Nation-State.  You just don't have a clue what you are talking about.  It is far worse, and steeped in hundreds of years of history.  A more recent "discrimination" is against the former East German citizens, and somewhat rightfully so.  These Germans have a much different work ethic as compared to their former West German citizens.  The education standard in  former East Germany was much different also, as compared to the West,  as it was in all former Soviet bloc Nation-States.  These flaws with these citizens will still take decades to overcome.

Fifth: I am not an illegal alien in Germany, I have a short term work visa, and am now in the process of getting a two year residence visa.   I pay taxes to my own Nation, of which I had an option to do when I first came over here in January,  because it was undecided how long I would be here,  (Still is)  this could change, and I could end up paying taxes here in Germany.

Sixth:  The night before last, I met with two very prominent attorneys for dinner and drinks, and a Cologne City Council member. We got to talking about a number of political issues, including unemployment in Germany, and specifically the unemployment of the Turks and Russians.  I am correct Sir,  you are mistaken, but I have no documentation to support that.   Moreover, as a side note,  the prisons are predomiately filled with Turks,  Gypsies and Russians.  Very few Germans occupy German prison cells,  it is less than ten percent.  And you are so ignorant to think that there is no discrimination, stereotypes, or bigotry over here?   Ignorance is bliss.....

Moe?  The rest of your message once again demonstrates your ignorance.  Have you ever been to Europe?

Finally,  and most importantly, "We",  (meaning Americans)  are not Europeans! We are not Europe!  Unlike you, who once again, seems to be oblivious to our history, our tenets, our princicpals, our Constitution, and what literally made our Nation great, Americans have no desire to live in a Nation or a continent like Europe!  It is by no means anywhere near to America, and most Europeans would give their left testicle (or ovary)  to come to America, even those who are living a very comfortable life!  Most Germans that I discuss politics with are very much wanting to see America exert itself against the communist/socialist/bolshivek movements here in the Western Europe, as well as the onslaught of Islam.

Moe, you have no clue of what you talk about.  Literally.

Sometime we need to read real history books rather than stories from 'Taleem-o-Tarbiat'

Pakistan Army is the only army that is known globally for killing 3 Million Pakistanis in 1972 in East Pakistan and Raping numerous women. It is also known for invading their own country four times but never winning a war in battlefield against India despite plundring a huge portion of National Budget. Recently it has been also exposed of being incapable of even their home bases.
