Tallahassee -- A sweeping bill that will overhaul how public school teachers are paid, evaluated, hired and fired cleared the Florida Senate Thursday morning, continuing its speedy passage through the Legislature.
The bill was passed 26-12, along party lines except for one Democrat, Sen. Gary Siplin of Orlando, who voted in favor, and two Republicans — Sen. Paula Dockery of Lakeland and Sen. Dennis Jones of Seminole — who voted against it. The full House has scheduled two marathon sessions to discuss the bill next week.
With Senate passage, the bill became the second major legislation approved by the full chamber, which on Wednesday signed off on a proposed Constitutional amendment that would guarantee Floridians wouldn't have to purchase health insurance or pay a tax penalty, as mandated in the federal healthcare reform packaged approved by the U.S. Congress last year.
The teacher pay and tenure legislation, Senate Bill 736, would tie new teachers' pay to evaluations based primarily on student performance on exams; award annual, instead of three-year, contracts, and end the practice of basing layoff decisions on seniority.
"This bill ought to be a teacher's dream, to be able to get paid for student success," said Sen. Stephen Wise, a Jacksonville Republican and lead sponsor of the legislation.
Most Democrats didn't see it that way. "With the cuts we're looking at this year in our budget, it is simply not possible" to pay for the reforms, said Sen. Nan Rich of Weston, the minority leader. "This bill is an unfunded mandate to our school districts."
A couple of Republicans, including one who ultimately supported the bill, echoed Rich's concerns.
"I want money to be put into this bill," said Sen. Evelyn Lynn of Ormond Beach. "It will come, but we've got to get the structure in place to do exactly what needs to be done."
Meanwhile, the House Education Committee began its final hearings on its version of the bill at 8 a.m. Thursday. The committee's Republican majority voted down a slew of amendments offered by Democrats that would have made the legislation more palatable for groups like the Florida Education Association, the statewide teachers union, that oppose the bill.
Though the committee's hearings were scheduled to last all day, public comment ended around 11 a.m. after about a dozen people spoke for and against the legislation. Less than an hour later, the committee moved the bill forward, with none of its members veering from party lines.

Legislation to Block EPA Climate Rules Passes Subcommittee Vote

Legislation to Block EPA Climate Rules Passes Subcommittee Vote

I'm confident that this will pass the House with little problem.  However, the Senate is another matter.

In June of 2010, the Senate showed its allegiance to the EPA by defeating an amendment which would have blocked the EPA's authority in regulating greenhouse gasses.  The November 2010 elections did little to change the balance of power in the Senate. So, better to hold off on this one until after 2012.

However, I doubt the Republicans are smart enough to figure that out on their own and will fatuously rush headlong into a commie red, brick wall waiting for them in Senate:

Cantor promises swift House vote on legislation to block EPA climate rules
By Andrew Restuccia - 03/10/11 - The Hill

Republicans approved legislation to block Environmental Protection Agency climate rules in a key House subcommittee Thursday, the first step in a wide-ranging GOP effort to stop the agency from regulating greenhouse-gas emissions.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee's Energy and Power subcommittee approved the bill on a party-line voice vote. There were no amendments offered to the bill.

The bill, authored by full committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.), would permanently eliminate EPA's authority to regulate greenhouse-gas emissions from stationary sources like power plants and refineries. It also overturns a finding by EPA that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Thursday that the EPA legislation will come to the House floor within weeks.

"Obviously that is a big factor in increasing energy costs here, and we expect that to be on the floor in the next couple of weeks," he told reporters in the Capitol.

The broad consensus among scientists is that climate change is occurring in large part because of human activity.

LOL!  Hey, I'm a scientist and I have seen no conclusive evidence proving human activity has indeed caused an Earth-wide "climate change."   The only thing that has been conclusively shown is that weather monitoring equipment will show an increase in temperature when you start placing them on asphalt surfaces---or in the exhaust of a jet engine!

But, I digress...

Broad consensus, he says?  Hm, that's interesting...  Whatever happened to that much ballyhooed "unanimous consensus among scientists" we heard so much of in past?  Oh, that's right;  It's all a big lie.  That would be why it's no longer called Anthropogenic Global Warming, but "Climate Change" now-and-days.  That way, the little commie quack, wannabe "scientists" can blame every little thing on human activity.

Wisconsin Lawmakers Receiving Death Threats

Um...  Must be those darn, racist Nazi Teabaggers again.  Yup, couldn't possibly be the work of those peaceful Lefturds:

Capitol Chaos: Lawmakers Get Death Threats
By Jon Byman
Mar 10, 2011 - 620wtmj

MADISON - The State Department of Justice confirms that it is investigating several death threats against a number of lawmakers in response to the legislature's move to strip employees of many collective bargaining rights.

Among the threats the Justice Department is investigationg is one that was emailed to Republican Senators Wednesday night.  Newsradio 620 WTMJ has obtained that email.

The following is the unedited email:

Please put your things in order because you will be killed and your familes
will also be killed due to your actions in the last 8 weeks. Please explain
to them that this is because if we get rid of you and your families then it
will save the rights of 300,000 people and also be able to close the deficit
that you have created. I hope you have a good time in hell. Read below for
more information on possible scenarios in which you will die.

WE want to make this perfectly clear. Because of your actions today and in
the past couple of weeks I and the group of people that are working with me
have decided that we've had enough. We feel that you and the people that
support the dictator have to die. We have tried many other ways of dealing
with your corruption but you have taken things too far and we will not stand
for it any longer. So, this is how it's going to happen: I as well as many
others know where you and your family live, it's a matter of public records.
We have all planned to assult you by arriving at your house and putting a
nice little bullet in your head. However, we decided that we wouldn't leave
it there. We also have decided that this may not be enough to send the
message to you since you are so "high" on Koch and have decided that you are
now going to single handedly make this a dictatorship instead of a
demorcratic process. So we have also built several bombs that we have placed
in various locations around the areas in which we know that you frequent.
This includes, your house, your car, the state capitol, and well I won't
tell you all of them because that's just no fun. Since we know that you are
not smart enough to figure out why this is happening to you we have decided
to make it perfectly clear to you. If you and your goonies feel that it's
necessary to strip the rights of 300,000 people and ruin their lives, making
them unable to feed, clothe, and provide the necessities to their families
and themselves then We Will "get rid of" (in which I mean kill) you. Please
understand that this does not include the heroic Rep. Senator that risked
everything to go aganist what you and your goonies wanted him to do. We feel
that it's worth our lives to do this, because we would be saving the lives
of 300,000 people. Please make your peace with God as soon as possible and
say goodbye to your loved ones we will not wait any longer. YOU WILL DIE!!!!

It's Not Your Money. It's The People's Money.

It's Not Your Money. It's The People's Money.

It's not your money. It's the people's money. It's their resources. You never had a right to all of it. You don't have a right to deny millions of people access to the resources they need for their survival. You never had a right to monopolize resources to the point where the only way millions of Americans can avoid poverty is but through the Grace of You. You are not God.

I'll even go further:....
